  1. I don't know about Jones because they were at a standstill all off-season. So I think he's the most gettable. I don't know about getting a center because I want to see what we've got in the guy we drafted. He was supposed to be the top center in the draft and didn't even get a look there in the season. He could be a hidden gem.
  2. So I was moreso responding to the stuff I was hearing from Chris Russo / Russell on radio when he was trying to conspire what's going on with Terry. I could take EB or leave him. I like how he has developed Sam but don't like how his offense is inside out (working from the backs and TEs to the WRs). I would rather it work from the WRs because thats where the weapons are here, or more I'd rather he look for the mismatches in the offenses and exploit them and not just have a designed offense. But its early so I don't like judging him so soon and I felt that we are doing that too much this year with so little installed this year. I wonder how much of the offense they're getting wrong, how much are the coahces getting wrong, these aren't his coaches. That's gotta be hard on him. I wonder if Harris takes that into effect (affect). I still want an offensive guy to develop Howell for the coming years and I'm not off the EB wagon. I'm not 100% on it but I think he has a case. I think its more a question of how he would develop the offense around Howell. Like what's his excuse for the OL this year? Is that on Ron? What about the playmakers? Is that on Sam and his progressions or the OL and time or the Wrs and hitting their landmarks? I do wonder if we get a defensive coach if we can get EB to stay though, if they're even considering that.
  3. I don't know if I believe that though. I want to but I do see Mahomes forcing it to the TE. And breviously to the WR who just torched us. But if the speculation is true that EB is holding a grudge against Terry and "teaching him a lesson" about embarrassing him publicly with the big hit in practice, then this is a bad look for him that could have been resolved differently - the whole more flies with honey than with vinegar thingie. But then again we could be seeing another playcaller being inflexible to their "system" and not being willing to mold it to their players. And maybe part of that is him still learning the players and learning to bend to their wills and learning how to bend to their wills. But how many times do we have this square peg round hole argument thingie. Now we have a elite WR looking like a bum because he made a coach mad for questioning him.
  4. So I'm not playing with numbers right now, I'm just looking at a few things and trying to add a veteran presence to this team. Here's some stuff I would like to do. - Sign Chris Jones 19.5 AAV Devin Whilte 7.5 AAV Connor Williams - 7.5 AAV Josh Allen - 6.5 AAV Patrick Queen - 3.0 AAV Tee Higgins - 2.1 AAV -Resign Curtis Samuel 11.5 AAV Kendall Fuller 10.0 AAV I'm going to stop because this is fun but I doubt these AAV numbers are in any means accurate (I'm using spotrac). Josh Allen has 13.5 sacks this year. He will definitely demand more than 6.5 mil a year. If we can get him for less than we signed Brissett for, then sign me up. But the names are some I would like. I don't know about double dipping on Jones and Allen because it would again put too much money into our DL but bringing one of those names would be nice. I would put Jones way above Allen because I think he is a locker room changer. But Allen I think is no slouch. I wouls also Rank Queen above White. And Tee Higgins above Curtis Samuel.
  5. So I'm debating whether this should go in the Free agency thread or this thread but I'll put it here. I listened to the Command Center podcast and it was interesting just how much the impact that signing London Fletcher did to help the maturity of this team. I don't know if that's just Moss and Smoot talking vs actually being serious but it sounds really similar to whats going on right now with EB. Except guys like Pringle and Wiley are not the enforcers that Fletcher are in the locker room. Hearing that Fletcher had the power to restart practice? Wow. I'm looking at Free agents and wondering who we can sign with that impact. It would go beyond just "big play" and stuff or even what Ron looks for, that nice guy stuff (cause I don't mind a mean guy), who are the guys who are leading the huddles and like Jonathna Allen like giving motivational speeches or doing things like not missing a game. I was thinking about that about Kirk and thats something about him that is unappreciated, he went ike 11 years without getting injured, or at least without missing a game due to injury. Part of that is luck but part is dedication and doing things like training your body and what did he say "process". So as we start to look at getting a new front office in here and a new coaching staff in here, I'm thinking about what the mentality will be. I really think there is a cause and effect between our low injuries and the hard practices we did in training camp. Hopefully Harris sees that and keeps it for the next guy. Also I wonder if the players here talk with other teams (on winning orgs) about things like how hard the coach is or the off day or getting training on injuries vs getting time in the film room. And I really wonder if Terry would be less vocal if he had 3 100 yard games in the first 4 games on like 12 targets per game. Then maybe he would be a chirping EB EB EB and having the whole offense as team players instead of where we are now.
  6. Here's the puzzle for my kids today The clues are dirk and (2/4) hall (2/4) dryer (2/5) What is the original word?
  7. I commented on your post and gave commentary based on the podcast. Keim and Fowler said their opinions, but others around the league think the opinions I expressed in the post I stated earlier.
  8. This is what I've imagined all along, but not with the defense. Allen with the sports Junkies kinda said he doesn't talk to them. But he did change the players day which impacts all players (which includes defense). But Keim and Fowler said this this 4-9 record will kinda go on his coaching record, and some around the league are saying that Beiniemy may have done a good job though because it was too jolly / lax here in Washington. Others are giving him respect for the job he did with Sam being a fifth rounder even with the sacks, picks and the line. And saying he's gotten the chip off his shoulder by showing he can call plays being not under Andy Reid. My take? Will he get a job? Probably not, given his age and the youth movement and all the other interviews he has already had. But its a nice addition to his resume.
  9. I liked Smith as GM but somebody down there like Ridder over Howell. I liked Ridder but not over Howell. Somebody's got to answer for that. And other that that they've drafted well and its not necessariy a 90s offense. Its one that can win, based on the Tennessee offense. But they're not running it well, especially in the red zone. And its costing him games and he is looking like a dodfis in the press conferences explaining himself.
  10. Here's a nice article on Ben Johnson's system. https://www.theringer.com/nfl/2023/8/14/23830935/how-detroit-lions-offensive-coordinator-ben-johnson-fixed-jared-goff How Ben Johnson Fixed Jared Goff and Became the Next Big Thing in NFL Coaching
  11. I was just telling my Dad that something didn't seem right about Ben Johnson and I finally was able to put it into words. He reminds me of Arthur Smith in Tennessee. Both are these hot shot OCs under these disciplinarian HCs. Then Smith got hired in Atlanta and has been looking like a dufis. The truth is he couldn't recreate the culture he had in Tennessee. He is not the person that Vrabel is in terms of motivation. And that's what I don't know about Ben Johnson. Honestly I don't see it with EB. I thought I did but I don't. I kinda understand moving the off day, but I'm not there everyday. DO THE PLAYERS KNOW. If he can't communicate that, and it's leading to all kinds of stuff, I'm not going to go 100% behind him. I'm not off the train. But I need him to better explain why Monday instead of Tuesday. Was it just an ego thing because thats messing with their norm and their family times and a lot of stuff that had to be rearranged. The thing I like about the Shanny tree is that there is no illusion of "tuff guy" there is no last guy in a ring type thing. Its just an out-smarts you thing. That interview this Bobby S. was really nice. I hope he is hired here and can hire a coaching staff like Shanahah had here in the 2010s.
  12. But Kyl But Kyle went 6-10 and 4-12 his first 2 years. We may be different from that if we have a QB in Howell but to many that's still an open question. JLC says that many GMs want to come here because they see that Howell is a nice young QB to build around. But that's hope and what can you build on hope? Howell may get hurt or he may not perform as well as expected or he may just be a Minshew or a backup. McVay had a better start to his career with Goff as his starter even if he wasn't deemed as a great QB. Same with Kevin O'Connel. But these later guys had QBs. If you think Sam is a QB then I'm more comfy going with Bobby, but if not then I wonder if the system will eat him alive. Another thing i wonder about is the Philly tree. Not the Andy Reid tree. But the new Philly tree - Sirianni. Gannon and Stichen got hired as coaches this year. Gannon is 3-10 right now, but its early and they just got Murray back. Steichen on the other hand is looking really good in Indy. He had the rookie Richardson looking good then he got hurt. Minshew took over and they haven't lost a beat. Now they have a chance to win the division. So a side question to that Jim Bob Cooter is the OC in Indy, maybe we give him a look. I know absolutely nothing about him though other than he's 39.
  13. The problem with Slowik is his youth. I'm trying to look up his youth and if I can find it I will update this post but he only has a years experience calling plays. And not like EB calling plays where he was the OC but not calling plays, he was the OC for one year. Before that he was the passing game coordinator for like 6 years though and had a somewhat long journey to being a coach though that may make him a bit older. Yeah, i just looked it up, he's like 36. I guess that works in this new era of head coaches but I don't know if we're ready for that.
  14. that's a YouTube video of Bobby Slowik. I like him. Not saying he's a firey guy or a "leader of men" type. But he's a Shanny disciple so I'm inclined to think he's smart. And from this interview he's saying a lot of the things I want to hear.
  15. I've always been into math / number puzzles and when I was younger I told myself that I wanted to learn to program them when I got older. Well, like I said the sudokus and stuff were a bit hard for my boy so I started doing word puzzles. I used to hate word puzzles. But after some self reflection, I decided to do some programming on crossword generation, word search generation and other word puzzle generation to delve into that line of puzzles. Now I need to learn to solve them.
  16. I'm glad someone else undestood that. I thought my son and I were on an island here.
  17. So this is another follow up. Younger loves the idea. It hasn't led to him becoming an active reader like I wanted but thats ok. I'm not trying to rush it. He's loving the Word Searches. The main thing is that he can do puzzles like his older brother and not be left out. More on puzzles. So my older son, enjoys riddles and puzzles. I used to make him a puzzle a day in the morning before school but he would take too long to do them and wouldn't finish his breakfast. But sometimes I will still give him one on weekends. Anyway, he still likes riddles on school mornings. So i downloaded a book of about 1000 riddles. He went through that in about a month and I needed something new. So I saw one riddle and got an idea. its the chicago riddle. Chi-ca-go. 3/7 chicken= CHI 2/3 cat = CA 2/4 goat= GO. Basically the fraction tells how many letters out of the word to take. I'm not good with riddles (at all) but I am good with programming so I write a program to generate some random riddles like this one The clues are germ and (1/4) vacuum and (3/6) jour (1/4) cate (3/4) What is the original word? And I give them to my son every morning and the dude solves them in like no time. My wife and coworkers were laughing at me for making these riddles thinking they were corny but this makes me smile. I had to ask him how he does it because I had no idea. He told me dad its simple and the told me and really it was simple.
  18. I think they have to manage it. They saw both early Snyder, the early Roseman Eagles lose out with the FA approach and trying to win quickly with just the wrong guys. So the question is who are the right guys and how do you know you have the right core of guys to build around first? I will never forget the Carlos Rogers quote on his upcoming free agency when he said ie was Redskins philosophy to let their own go and bring in somebody else for big money. He was saying that was Redskins philosophy to a beat reporter, so you know that was talked about regularly to the other players. Thats that the locker room was like. It must have been hard to build something. Fast forward to now, and we've done a good but not great job of drafting our own guys. They are consistent players but they're not anything special. Whether that's because they'r not great guys or because they don't have cocahces to get them to that next level (like Terry, Curl, Allen, Payne, etc) thats another debate. But we may have a foundation now. I think we'd still want to make our major in the draft, taking almost all of our "classes" in that area. But if we choose to delve into the classroom of free agency for a course or two, I don't think it would be a problem. But when that becomes out major it becomes a problem.
  19. I don't like this at all. Why would we keep Wylie? As a starter? What has he shown us that he has the potential to be a sarter? If we're going to bring in a C and RT, why not bring in a LG as well? If not, I'd rather have Stromberg start over him or Daniels. I'm not ready to write off Paul or Charles yet either. I think this year was a lot going wrong all at once. Its hard to judge if one player is right on one play if everybody else is bad on every other play.
  20. Fashanu is getting graded by all the scouts as an elite pass blocker. I've seen him graded as a 100 out of 100 in pass blocking. His run blocking isn't elite yet but its right there. I was listening to the segment on what makes a good OL on the SumerSports podcasts with an analyst and a former GM and the former GM was saying that he'd take the elite pass blocker 10 times out of 10 because of the way the league is going towards the passing game. You need to be able to protect the QB. And he's young so he's still developing.
  21. Just had my first ever inclination to make rice krispie treats and did do with my boys. They came out great. Wife has been holding that over my head since we were dating. Not any more.
  22. Hey, I like good football. ESPN gave Howell a QBR of 46.4. that's not great but it's better that our QBs from last year. It's a watchable loss.
