Down here in Hanover County, we have a Stonewall Jackson Middle School. It just so happens to be in the only part of the county (eastern) that has significant diversity. Naturally, there is a movement underfoot to change the name. I only mention this to highlight an interesting fact...
It was originally named Chickahominy Middle but was changed to Stonewall Jackson in 1968. Why 1968?
Well, because 1968 was right in the middle of...wait for it...the battle to integrate public education in Virginia.
