Carson Wentz is the first QB NFL history who apparently bombed with this kind of season :ols:

    A.  9th best QBR in the league

    B.  About a 4-1 TD-INT ratio

    C.  Winning record

    D.  For most of the season he was in conversation as one of the best Qbs in the league

Yet, you'd think we are trying to overhaul a QB with a Sam Darnold like season.  It's absurd.

This is all on paper though.

If you watched the Colts last season then you'd have noticed that Wentz couldn't close out games. They were 1-6 in games where Wentz threw more then 30 times. (obviously you throw more when behind) Jonathon Taylor was the closer.

There was no point in the season where Wentz was considered among the best in the league or at least I certainly don't remember any talk like that. Not even in conversation. He might've been among the best in the league in QBR at times on the stat sheet in hindsight.

If you're judging Wentz as a top 10 NFL QB, then he had a below average year and the deal is highly suspect. No team in 2022 trades away a starting QB without a viable backup and no first round pick. Its a huge red flag. I don't care who or where or when. Red flag.

If you're judging him based on the Taylor Heinicke offense we had around here.... its a huge win. Massive upgrade without trading a first round pick. Wentz will be able to open up the field and teams can't just stack the box and send the house every play waiting for Heinicke to throw the ball up for grabs. How many more wins will that translate to around here is tough though. NFL has so many variables to just say our offense is better so we'll win more games. We thought we improved the defense last season and it completely imploded.

Great RB and OL, but yeah, their group of pass catchers was Michael Pittman and then a bunch of meh.  Jack Doyle just retired, TY Hilton has gotta be hanging it up soon if not this off-season.  It's not a good group of targets.

Taylor and Hines both had 40 receptions last season. Hines is one of the best pass-catching backs in the league.

    They also count as pass-catchers.

I'm actually relieved we won't be taking QB at 11 now. There are some premium players at LB and CB that can help us now and be mainstays for the next decade.

Mainstays on a 6-8 win team not going anywhere.

I think Josh Edwards CBS Sports is probably spot on with his mock draft 2022 NFL Mock Draft: Seahawks take QB with pick acquired in Russell Wilson trade, Eagles trade up for Stingley - CBSSports.com

He has Pickett to Carolina, Corral to Seahawks and Willis to Commanders.

Despite this being a weak QB class I absolutely expect us to be picking the 3rd or 4th QB off the board at #11.

DET/HOU/NYG/CAR/ATL/SEA could all go QB while NO/TB/PIT could trade up for one in the draft.

It might be rough getting our guy or require a trade up.

Does anyone know of a good read that outlines the case? All I got is they went after them for marketing to children? I haven’t even seen what the evidence was

Don't really see one but here is the court brief:  https://www.supremecourt.gov/DocketPDF/19/19-168/118198/20191004151558181_19-168BriefInOpposition.pd

    Quote

Respondents, who are plaintiffs below, allege that petitioners violated the Connecticut Unfair Trade Practices Act (CUTPA) when they knowingly marketed and promoted the Bushmaster XM15-E2S rifle for use in assaults against human beings. Respondents allege that the illegal marketing proximately caused their injuries, which arise from the terror, pain and suffering, and death of the victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting.

The Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act preempts certain civil actions against manufacturers and sellers of firearms and ammunition. But it expressly does not prohibit “action[s] in which a manufacturer or seller of a [firearm] knowingly violated a State or Federal statute applicable to the sale or marketing of the product.” 15 U.S.C. 7903(5)(A)(iii).

The question presented is whether the Connecticut Supreme Court erred in determining that respondents’ claims under CUTPA constitute, within the meaning of Section 7903(5)(A)(iii), a violation of “a State * * * statute applicable to the sale or marketing” of the XM15-E2S.

They claimed the marketing was illegal:

    Quote

As the complaint explains, petitioners chose to market the XM15-E2S as a highly lethal weapon designed for purposes that are illegal—namely, killing other human beings. For example, petitioners published promotional materials that promised “militaryproven performance” for a “mission-adaptable” shooter in need of the “ultimate combat weapons system.” Compl. ¶¶ 79, 81, 82. One Bushmaster product catalogue showed soldiers moving on patrol through the jungle, armed with Bushmaster rifles, and stated that “[w]hen you need to perform under pressure, Bushmaster delivers.” Id. ¶ 80. Despite evidence that rifles like the XM15-E2S have become the weapon of choice for mass shooters, id. ¶ 165, petitioners’ advertising continued to exploit the fantasy of an all-conquering lone gunman, proclaiming: “Forces of opposition, bow down. You are single-handedly outnumbered.” Id. ¶ 83. Petitioners reinforced those messages by specifying in advertisements that high-capacity 30-round magazines are “standard” equipment on the XM15- E2S; by contrast, petitioners’ hunting and competition rifles are sold with 5- or 10-round magazines. Id. ¶¶ 87-92.

Personally I don't really get it but don't really know the laws here on marketing a gun to the public.

What about the player we didn't get because we overreached for a stiff QB in Haskins? So missing on a QB did not set us back but not drafting a QB the past 2 drafts has set us back???? Regardless of who made the call to select Haskins it still cost us a better player.

If the better player wasn't a QB then what difference does it make?

Drafting a team of MLB's that can't play MLB isn't getting us anywhere. Nor is having a defense of first round picks that can't stop anyone.

  7. Drafting Haskins did not set us back. Swing and a miss. Not drafting a QB in the following 2 drafts is what set us back.

Draft a QB, and draft one again in 2023 if they're better. ****, draft 2 QBs in 2023 if there's going to be so much talent.

Remember that the best QB we've seen in this franchise in decades was Cousins and we drafted him after trading the farm for RG3 which made no sense at the time.

That's my point: he's had next to nothing to do with SF winning games in the postseason unless you consider handing the ball off an onerous responsibility.

And I'm not judging him by one game. I'm judging him on all of his playoff games. There's a pattern...and that's him either doing next to nothing or playing crappy and having to be bailed out by the rest of the team.

Can you really say that 2 TDs, 5 INTs and averaging under 150 yards passing over 5 games are impressive postseason numbers that immediately say to you "we should definitely give up a high draft pick for this guy"?

Uh, no. Trading a 2nd+ for Garoppolo and giving him a 5+ year 150mil he'll be seeking is absurd.

I wasn't referring to you. You just chimed in. 😉

Jimmy G hasn't been any better in his other playoff performances. He has 2 TDs and 5 INTs in the postseason. That's pretty awful. Even if you decide to remove the game vs the Packers for some reason (teams sometimes play in cold weather...it happens...but whatever) then he still has only 2 TDs and 4 INTs in 4 postseason games.

The idea that he's anything even close to a reason for their postseason success is laughable.

If you remember 2019 obviously that's ridiculous. The 49ers blew out the Packers while Garoppolo threw the ball 8 times the entire game.

However, its equally ridiculous if you're judging those QBs on one game's box score with severe weather.

No. I am saying  just for as bad as Jimmyg played Rodgers was not that much better that day.  Wrong quote my mistake nothing to do with Heinicke.

Bad? In Single-digit temperatures and the snow?

I find it weird you or others keep discussing that game without mentioning the weather. As if the 13-10 score was totally normal and had nothing to do with it.

In normal weather the 49ers start the game with a  50+ yard TD to Kittle that Garoppolo put right in his hands. Some of the strongest hands in the game.

Having a 20mil one year stop gap that you had to trade for. Rivera and Mayhew should be fired if they think that is an acceptable way forward.

    No way.

30+ mil a year stopgap. (and a 5+ year deal)

Garoppolo isn't going anywhere to take a pay-cut after leading a team possibly to the SB.

And it'll take at least a 2nd rounder just to be able to pay him that big contract. (49ers will certainly ask for a 1st)
