  1. I’m not saying he is undeserving, I said he’s technically a nepotistic hire. Meaning he got the job based partly on his previous relationship with the head coach and he’s potentially a good coach. a.) I dont know how innovative he is or isn’t, he’s never had complete control of the defense before b.) no way to know, that’s what interviews should be for and what I expected since the nfl prevents lateral moves. So it’s either another Del Rio coordinator off the street or an up and coming assistant c.) immeasurable. Hires happen for all sorts of reasons some virtuous some nefarious. Some scheme some relationship. d.) innovative to me is current nfl trends that work. Anti Ron Rivera with busted coverages would be nice. A disciple from Cleveland or Baltimore tops my list. Quinn is a top notch defensive mind so Whitt may be an awesome protégé. e.) that’s the million dollar question. Person you trust or unknown quantity that may transform your team like Slowick in Houston. Again, that’s what interviews are for. It’s not a cut and dry answer, it’s complicated. There’s a line that’s kinda fuzzy, I’m just talking about it. Guess that makes me the bad guy tonight…
  2. Some were hired already because we drug our feet for 2 weeks waiting for Ben “can’t interview” Johnson. Kubiak from San Fran is a name I was interested in, or any of the offensive assistants from Miami, Cincy, LA or any of the Shanahan disciples really. There were a few defensive assistants I thought we’d bring in too. Just seems like Quin got hired, made a couple of phone calls and our staff is hired and now there’s dancing in the ES streets. Most folks here were arguing 3 days ago when Ben Johnson left us at the alter now we’re all pretending to love this new staff. I’m not. But I hope it works out, I’m cautiously optimistic.
  3. Tell me how you really feel! Let me slice your elephant! First, I didn’t say Kingsbury was “hired because he’s white,” Steven A. Smith implied it. Coaches like Kingsbury, who weren’t successful at their previous stops, yet somehow continue to get chance after chance is the thesis of the argument for instating the Rooney rule. Kliff Kingsbury is a very average coach, his numbers support that notion everywhere he’s been and have been posted several times in this thread. You should read those posts… In addition to the minority coaches his type of hire affects, there are a great many unknown white coaches who also don’t get their shot, which was MY point that you chose to ignore. Joe Whitt is a nepotistic hire in terms of relationship because he is a known quantity and person to Dan Quinn. However, it could be argued he is undeserving of the job since he was on Quinn’s staff and a more innovative coach could’ve been hired, regardless of race. What IS stupid is when folks like you refuse to listen and try to understand a different POV because you’ve made up your mind and aren’t comfortable being uncomfortable which IS why I chimed in on this topic. Hopefully by making you and others like you uncomfortable it will facilitate discourse so we learn a bit from each other, which is the only way change can happen. Which is also why I agreed that Steven A. was right to address the topic on his nationally syndicated show…
  4. About what sir? It’s impossible for anybody to be “right or wrong” at this point. This is a subjective debate about perception and merit and whether it has been effectively adjudicated to hire a coaching staff.
  5. Yeah I get you want someone you can trust, but we’ve been complaining about the Bruce Allen connections and the Ron Rivera connections for the last decade. I was simply hoping for a very thorough process where the best young minds were assembled to finally rebuild this train wreck organization. Hopefully, we’ll see, maybe, cross my fingers, if, could be Quinn is the guy, and Kingsbury finally figures out play sequencing, and Peters drafts talent, but count me among those not enthused about a Dan Quinn Kliff Kingsbury offense with the Andy Reids and Kyle Shanahans running the league.
  6. Amen! Joe Whitt is a nepotism hire. Is he the best man for the job? Maybe, probably, since he’s one of Dan’ guys. But he is an unknown, being given a shot, I don’t care that he’s black. So that’s a plus. Conversely, last I saw Kingsbury he was drowning in Arizona with a lost locker room running a bottom half of the league offense WITH Kyler Murray. Where’s the thorough search for an innovative coordinator? I’ve heard several names on this board like Kubiak out of San Fran or someone off the Shanahan tree. So when the process doesn’t look thorough, but comfortable, it gives folks like Steven A. a reason to start “bloviating!” And it’s hard to argue.
  7. Curious as to who you DO think the conversation should begin with? Not rhetorical… Most pundits are afraid to speak truth to controversial subjects in society, and it’s fact the NFL has a nepotistic hiring problem that excludes highly qualified candidates, minorities included, so much so the Rooney Rule was created. Kingsbury is a ‘meh’ hire at best. So is Quinn. I applaud Steven A. for saying what needs to be said, no matter how uncomfortable it makes people, whether he technically right or wrong in this particular instance. There are several coaches both black and white that deserved a shot over Kingsbury, so to question the validity of these types of hires is a conversation that needs to be had at the executive level of the NFL, every level of media both nationally and locally, and forums such as these especially when merit seems to be left at the door.
  8. That used to frustrate me to no end as a young man… first job, grocery store, the old ladies would put a bunch of stuff on the checkout counter and after ringing up they’d start asking me to take stuff off because they didn’t have enough money, super embarrassing… I understand you’re short but you couldn’t figure that out BEFORE you got up here backing up my line! And I gotta put this **** back! Freaking kidding me! Cmon grandma! my bad, end rant… flashback, what were we talking about?🤐
  9. And this Jerry Springer thread can swap the Ben Johnson controversy to the Caleb Williams controversy and continue to argue ad naseum until April…🙄
  10. Exactly, folks talked themselves into the Ben Johnson to the moon and beyond hype and the crow is tough. I haven’t been following to closely and come in here and folks are losing their minds, funny as hell.
  11. Personal opinion is his defenses are built on speed and pass rush to force turnovers, which is great for the regular season when you’re playing with a lead or inferior offensive lines and QB play, but in the playoffs teams are more evenly matched. Green Bay got downhill on Dallas from the jump, a known weakness of that defense. Micah is awesome blitzing, but he’s small taking on double teams from 6’5” lineman ALL DAY. He wears down. Same for their smallish quick backers and safeties. That’s why more teams are running the ball and having success, defenses have been built this decade to defend the pass, but they’re more susceptible to being pounded. Look at the teams playing today, they all bring the pain running the ball, why I turned on EB, fool refused to run the rock! It’s not smart football to throw >40 per game on avg., you run it!
  12. Same, but not as long. Now I know why I typically like your posts. It’s why I roll my eyes when folks start regurgitating stats from PFF they have no idea how they were calculated or understand context. Chicken metrics… Math can tell you anything you want it too. Relativity is my favorite! Freaky stuff!
  13. In the case of Atlanta (Belichick) or even San Diego (Harbaugh) you’d have a point if the team has already decided on the coach, then the interview would be a sham to appease the rule or purely an opportunity for the coach to prepare and practice on his road to a HC position, which is still invaluable. However, Raheem Morris has a long and impressive resume’ especially considering the Super Bowl ring he wears as the DC for the 2022 Rams and the years of experience he has both as a HC and Defensive coordinator; which is why his name, along with Glenn from Detroit, are amongst the list of hot names. Now Ben Johnson may very well be the best option and potentially our next HC, but to imply Morris or Glenn are “only” a Rooney Rule interview for our specific opening is disingenuous and inconsistent with the process Harris and staff claim to be following.
  14. If your coaching predictions have been spot on the last 2 decades, no wonder we’ve routinely picked the worst candidates. You should sit this one out…
  15. I think the concern of the poster is that the minority candidates, who are highly qualified SHOULD be interviewed and considered, are being put into a “Rooney Rule” group, insinuating they’re actually NOT qualified and shouldn’t be considered but the rule mandates we put on the facade, just an impediment to hiring Johnson or Slowik. These candidates, like Morris, could be the next great head NFL coach and the Commanders should absolutely and thoroughly go thru the process to interrogate these coaches and select the best one, not just the hot coordinator like say a Ben Johnson. It does seem a bit disingenuous to imply a coordinator like Raheem Morris is only a Rooney Rule interview when his resume’ is just as distinguished if not more so than Ben Johnson’s just because he’s your top choice. Let the process play out and may the best man be selected.
  16. Took the words outta my mouth. I think he needs a coaching sabbatical. Between all he’s had to deal with the past 4 years, he need to decompress. Several nice vacations to live a little. He sounds like a broken man. Locker room saw it up close, they like him as a person but whispering around corners. Never good for a football team.
  17. Perhaps, but I’m not sure that’s the answer either. Not that it’s the most monumental task to continue where the previous guys left off, but both coordinators, especially on defense had to deal with a lot of change. I think losing Gardner-Johnson hurt their backend quite a bit, which like us allows offenses to beat you with quicker passing negating the rush, which I never believed Philly was elite at in the first place. Offensively, they got away from the QB run stuff with Jalen, which made their offense dynamic because it’s too much to defend. Only being 2 dimensional and relying heavily on the deep ball is high risk high reward, plus they lost the turnover battle this year. My point is between all the change it would be hard for any coach to replicate last years success, so I’m not sure I don’t bring my guys back utilizing lessons learned or ask my team to learn 2 NEW systems, risking Hurts’ development in the process. They’re in a tough spot.
  18. Fans are idiots. Sirianni is a good coach and if Lurie does fire him they deserve whatever stupid prizes they win. Dude lost both offensive and defensive coordinators, the talent dropped from last year and they were still a contender all year. Losing AJ Brown didn’t help either. That’s why I could care less about the back and forth about which coach to hire. Get a leader and the rest is easy. BJ / Slowik / Morris, let Peters feel them out from the interview and pick the best MAN. Not the best Xs and Os… Managers do the same nonsense at companies, pick the best technical or knowledgeable guy who sucks at leadership then can’t figure out why the performance dips…🧐.
  19. He truly was. I’ve heard countless players talk about how they’d run thru a wall for Gibbs. Hell I’d run thru a wall for coach Gibbs and I’ve never met the man.
  20. Hey I wasn’t being negative, maybe should have used “in addition to” instead. I thought your post was right on, and wanted to add the coleslaw to that Carolina BBQ you served up.
