  1. Yeah, both he and Kuzy refused to take shots they had in OT. Meanwhile, Montreal takes a shot and it goes through Holtby. Amazing what happens when you put the puck on net in OT. The team as a whole is just playing really sloppy. The only player that is playing well right now is Oshie.
  2. They haven't been playing well for a few weeks now. Ovechkin's goal scoring binge the last few weeks carried the team to a few victories. If not for him scoring that much to get to 698 so quickly, they have a few more loses. This is what he does and he has carried this team for so long. But he can't score multiple goals a game every night, even though sometimes it seems like he could. So the whole team needs to step up and play better, like they did in Denver the other night.
  3. I had to go to a basketball game tonight so I missed most of the game. But I caught the last few minutes during halftime of the game I was at. Seeing that run at the end of the game was masterful. Cowan hitting big shot after big shot down the stretch. What a great win this was.
  4. They tried to blow it tonight. I had a bad feeling about this game. I don't know why, but I just felt like they were ready for a let down. They had it, but still were able to pull out the win. On to East Lansing for a big test.
  5. Great comeback tonight. They really took control that second half. Especially when it looked like Illinois was going to make a run. It's always good to get a road win, but especially against a good team.
  6. I give Rutgers a lot of credit. They played pretty good defense all game. They really limited what MD did in the half court offense. Rutgers offensively though, looked bad. Jalen Smith helped A LOT with that. He has been playing great these last few games. He has been really fun to watch.
  7. I love when Cowan takes over by driving to the basket. It just really opens up the entire offense when he does that. There were plenty of times the defense just wanted no part of him driving. Not a perfect game from MD, but definitely a very good game. If they play like that, they are tough to beat.
  8. Great comeback. It would have been easy to just fold after Indiana took control. But they battled and fought back. Also, I love seeing Smith show that kind of fire. I don’t know what the fans were saying to him, but I love that passion he has been showing.
  9. Dang, this is sad news. I don’t know what else to say at this point.
  10. Watching Turgeon is much more maddening. I can't recall seeing a coach that has wasted more talent than this guy. Sadly he will probably win just enough to keep his job, but I'm hoping someone in the athletic department wakes up and can see what most fans have seen for years.
  11. So that stereotype is true for Canadians too. I thought that was just an American stereotype. Also, as good as the hosts reaction was, I'm disappointed that it didn't happen in America so we could see Steve Harvey's reaction to that answer.
  12. Just go in with an open mind enjoying how close you are sitting. If you are focusing on all the other stuff, you'll miss the enjoyment of the game.
  13. i didn't get the game today even though I figured a 12:30 Sunday start would mean NBC. But it did not. Anyway, I see they are down 4-3 and they had just scored to make it 4-3. I figured they would lose because no one scores 2 goals with the goalie pulled. I check later and see they came back an won. Just unbelievable the way this team finds ways to win.
  14. Football and basketball are the big sports to the fans. But to the school and the athletic department, success in all sports is what they measure. And from what I have observed, MD has been very successful in a lot of the other sports. I want to see them succeed in basketball and football, but from an athletic department standpoint, they have been extremely successful in the B1G.
  15. I only got to watch the last 4 minutes of the game, so I don't know what happened the previous 36 other than they clearly couldn't score. But what has always frustrated me about Turgeon was on display tonight. They fight to get back into the game by driving the ball to the hole and getting to the foul line. I'll give credit to Turgeon for that. That is something that is generally a coach asking his players to do late in the game in that situation. But after they cut it to 3 and they have the video review of the turnover, the wheels fall off. You come out of a timeout and you don't draw up a play to get the ball in bounds? What are you talking about in the huddle? I'm going to assume he was talking about taking a 3, because after Seton Hall misses their free throws, Cowen jacks up a bad 3. If he drives to the hole like they had been, they either score or go back to the line. The 1 out of 2 free throw trip by Seton Hall is a 1 possession gamea and not a 2 possession game like it was. But there was a switch in the strategy late that makes no sense and it came after a timeout. This is where coaching matters. The last minute of the game. Turgeon just can't coach it when it matters.
  16. @BRAVEONAWARPATH Thanks for keeping up with this. I came here just for this today when I heard he had flipped. I knew you would have information about him and I appreciate you staying on top of it and informing the rest of us.
  17. I didn't realize McFarland had redshirted his freshman year and was draft eligible. Good for him for declaring. I doubt there is any more value he can add to his draft stock that he can't add during the combine and his pro day. I think he can be really good in the pros. Leake I think can be good too, but I think he will be most valuable as a kick returner. Clearly he can do that, so hopefully he gets that shot. Also, great win by the basketball team tonight. I know Notre Dame isn't great, but this was a showcase game on ESPN and they looked like a top 5 team beating on an unranked team. That's all we can ask for at this point in the season.
  18. I'm glad they got something for Bundy. I always felt like he was a ticking time bomb waiting to hit another serious injury. But his story points out the importance of good drafting. He was one of the top pitching prospects in his class, yet injuries derailed what was supposed to be a successful career. That's going to happen and you can't predict it and a lot of times you can't prevent it. But if you are drafting well year after year and round after round, you can mitigate those guys who get derailed by injury. With the Orioles, too many misses during the draft and terrible development have caused that lack of depth that can't cover for these injuries.
  19. Pete Peeters wore number 1 for the Caps back in the 80s. It could be a tribute to him. I loved going to games as a kid and chanting his name every time he made a save. I'm going to guess it has more to do with the guys name than any player reference though.
  20. I got to watch the basketball team for the first time tonight. They have so much talent on this team. But watching them, they have no structure and no game plan. Maybe because it's Fairfield they didn't need one. But I fear I'll be saying the same thing when they play Iowa or Illinois, much less Michigan State and Ohio State. Also, I don't know what the official attendance was tonight, but the crowd shots looked similar to Fed Ex field this past Sunday. There seemed to be almost no one there. Even the student section was small and not very loud. Has Turgeon really killed the program that much that a team ranked #6 can't get a good crowd for these early season games?
  21. Yeah, I had the same reaction. I had no idea what he was talking about. But I do know it’s based on his usual “everyone who is not Canadian sucks and shouldn’t play hockey or come to Canada”. You knew at some point it would be too much.
  22. Regarding the football team. I would feel much better about this season had they beat Temple, like they should have, and had they beat Indiana, which I don't think they should lose to Indiana either. We know they aren't good enough to compete with Penn State, Michigan, and Ohio State. That doesn't even count Minnesota who is probably the second best team in the conference. So these blowout losses where these teams are trying to make a point, it is what it is. But losing earlier to the teams they should beat really makes this season disappointing.
  23. Not only do they need a good QB, but they also need to get bigger up front on both sides of the ball. The skill positions are great and they always seem to get a ton of talent at the skill positions, but to compete the the B1G, they need to get more big boys on the lines.
  24. I hate when I can’t watch games like this. This comeback had everything. A buzzer beater, a shorty, a pair of Kempny bombs, and a shootout winner. 7 out of 8 points so far on this road trip. I like it.
