  1. Caught the highlights this morning. I know the Oilers haven’t lost at home, but you can’t let that one slip away. Holtby had no chance in the OT goal, but that game tying goal he definitely has to stop. Also, the Caps have to be more disciplined in OT. Both Backstrom and Ovechkin below the goal line when they turn the puck over. A 3 on 1 is nearly impossible to stop.
  2. i agree that continuity is a big issue with this team and teams of the past few years. There is a lot of talent, but very little playing together. The coaching changes have a lot to do with that. And injuries too as you mentioned. It will be interesting to see what Locksley can do from here. I don't mean necessarily this year, but I mean beyond this year. We know he's a great recruiter, but how good is he at building a team. It will take some time, but I'm still hopeful he can do that.
  3. They didn't get screwed. Sanchez should have been out when he swung and missed by a foot and they called a foul tip. Then the next pitch is just off the plate and is called strike 3. There never should have been that pitch since he was clearly out on the pitch before that. By the way, why is that not reviewable? In the playoffs in a big spot like that, how can you not review that. This isn't the first time this has happened in the playoffs. I can't believe that isn't a reviewable play.
  4. I don't understand why they rotated Carlson to the Ovechkin spot for the majority of the 4 on 3. Clearly his shot from that spot isn't as deadly as Ovechkin's. There is so much space on a 4 on 3, if the defense wants to shade to Ovechkin, that just leaves so much ice open for basically a 3 on 2. I thought the Caps made it a little easier on the Hurricanes by putting Ovechkin up top and feeding Carlson on the side. I get you want to be creative on the PP and not just stand around, but I thought they could have fed Ovechkin in his spot and I like my chances when he gets clean looks from there.
  5. They are. I don't care that they took that goal off the board. They are still dominating on the ice.
  6. Always has been. Nothing's really changed. Edit: I have to listen to the Hurricanes announcers. The main play by play guy is annoying, but he's a national announcer so he's more measured with his words. But the commentator is a little puke. He spent 2 minutes ranting about Reirden after calling him a friend. Then said he looks more like an undertaker behind the bench. It's extremely obnoxious to listen to him.
  7. Great win against another good team. I loved the way the Caps played the last several minutes of that game. It was textbook playing with a lead. Samsonov played well. Should have had a shutout if not for that fluky goal. But the best part was how happy Ovechkin was when the horn sounded. He was so happy for his fellow countryman to get that first win.
  8. The only thing that bothered me about the first goal was that it should have been 1-0 Caps. The Blues left OV all alone in his office on the previous rush by the Caps. I think it was Wilson who went cross ice to Ovechkin who had nothing but clean ice in front of him at the top of the circle. He could one time, carry and shoot, or just drive to the net to beat the goalie. But the pass was bad and he had to settle it and gather and they got nothing. Eventually the Blues break out and set up that really nice goal to open the scoring. I think if Wilson gave a better pass, Ovechkin scores and St Louis doesn’t even have the chance to score that goal. It’s the first game and I don’t expect every pass to be clean and crisp. But that was such a swing in the first minutes of the first game. I’m glad the Caps regrouped after that and subsequently after getting down 2-0. I love the resiliency they showed against a really good team.
  9. It ruins it. Not so much for the fans, but definitely for the team. And that's what we really want to see anyway.
  10. What a shot by Vrana. Great game all around for the Caps. OV doing OV things. Holtby making some big saves. Vrana picking up right where he left off. Welcome back Caps hockey!
  11. That was actually the right call. There were a few others that were awful. It was bad enough watching your team get dominated. But terrible officiating makes it unwatchable. Penn State put the knife in MDs back, but the refs had fun taking turns twisting it. It’s not like MD hasn’t earned that reputation from the refs, this is the most undisciplined MD team I’ve seen in a long time. I just hate when they call things that don’t actually happen. Like when McFarland falls down on an INT return and they call that a low block. Penn State just utterly dominated MD on every play. MD still isn’t ready to play with the big boys in the B1G.
  12. I wish they had included this speech in that clip. I was at this game and was sitting in the overflow student section at N.C. State. It was an interesting place to sit. But the game was amazing and I’ll never ever forget that feeling after this game was won. I went over to the MD section and was signing the fight song and celebrating with the fans. It was an awesome night capping off an amazing season.
  13. Sounds like the kid found out what mommy and daddy have been using Alexa to order.
  14. Yeah, that sucks. He was having an MVP year for a team battling for a playoff spot.
  15. He definitely was yesterday to the Titans.
  16. I just hope that they get students out there to pack the stadium. The old people may or may not show, but I’d love to see a packed student section.
  17. I was surprised when i saw it was Tennessee. I guess if he’s going as a walk-on, then it makes more sense. I hope he gets a shot to play and does well. I feel bad for him having torn his ACL in both knees. You hate seeing that happen and seeing his football career derailed by that. I don’t like Tennessee, but I’ll still be rooting that it works out for him.
  18. That reminds me of this shopping center in Burlington, NC. Check out the bottom 2.
  19. I'm trying to think of what Hyde could have said that would justify Davis acting that way. I hope this is the final straw for Davis. How many more ways can this guy embarrass the Orioles?
  20. I saw that and loved it. Take advantage of the guys who are sleeping in the outfield. He also could have had a double on his last hit but you could see he was watching to see if it would stay fair. Also, he probably knew it was for the cycle even though he said after the game he didn’t know.
  21. I saw a video on the Orioles website where he was being interviewed after the game. I’m going to guess he didn’t, but that would have been awesome. The girl who bought the jersey also had a video for Santander. What I really liked about it was that it was a good reminder of how fun baseball games can be. Yeah, winning is always the most fun. Anyone who tells you otherwise is lying. But there is still so much fun that can be had just enjoying a baseball game.
  22. Anthony Santander developed quite a fan club today:
  23. I wish I could stay up and watch these west coast games. Especially when Mike Trout is involved. But I’m getting old and just can’t do it anymore. @DCSaints_fan you are the man for sticking with that game and providing the play by play in this thread.
  24. I think all of those things are a factor. But the biggest I think is the shift in philosophy of hitting home runs at all costs. It’s not about getting on base, getting in scoring position, and manufacturing a run. It’s about the home run. The stolen base is just too much of a risk of taking away a run from the guy who is up at the plate to hit it out. I know the game changes over time. Teams figure out different ways to win that works for their team. But I think there is a huge opening in baseball for a team that just gets on base and scores runs. The Angels did that in the early 2000s during the steroid era. They beat the Giants doing that. The reason I say it will take a team is because it’s not sexy. So one guy doing it won’t make much of a difference. He certainly won’t be getting a big pay day to go do that on another team. But a team of guys that do that and can score when they want would be the counter to all the HR or K that is dominating the game now. I don’t think we will see it, but the opportunity is there.
