  1. I think it's possible to keep 5 players who are able to play tackle, especially considering the number of guys we have with positional flexibility. And can we trust Charles to play tackle? We would also have 5+ guys who could play guard with the following depth chart: Leno. Lucas Norwell. Paul Gates. Draft. Larsen PUP Cosmi. Charles Wylie. Draft I think gates will probably be listed at guard post draft, but I think the main reason they prioritized gates is because he gives us peace of mind at center, even if he ends up playing more at guard. Knowing we have him in tow could allow us to be patient with roullier to see if he regains his form/maybe reworks his contract a bit. It also allows us to not feel forced into a day 2 reach for a center. Even if they retain roullier and draft a center, that would kick gates to guard, and I think I'd rather cut bait with norwell than Lucas. But regardless, I'd rather keep Lucas in the fold and see how everything shakes out with the draft. Also, if you go into training camp with 10, odds are pretty good one of them will be banged up by the opener unfortunately. I don't want to be relying on the David Sharpe's and Geron Christians of the world by October. All in all, I was on the same page with you and your posts about approaching oline with value signings, and we did a good job of that today, so I am very excited to the progress we have made already. Hoping for a couple premium draft picks to help solidify the group.
  2. No you are not lol. I respect your opinion and we usually agree. I feel the same for fuller that I do for Lucas: let's keep these guys in the fold. They might not be superstars, but they allow us depth, and I'd hate to see us lose that.
  3. Why? Are some of you guys allergic to depth? When we solidify a position by adding depth, it seems some are anxious to immediately flush that down the toilet. Fuller isn't an all pro by any means, but his cap hit isn't outrageous, and he is by far the most experienced cb on the roster. Imagine that cb room without him? It's exciting to add dantzler as a cb4, different story if we are forced to start him day one. While I'm hoping for a cb in round one, I also don't want the team to force a pick for any position, especially bc they chose to shed newfound depth prematurely. If they are looking to create cap room bc they have other guys they'd like to sign, I'd hope theyd cut roullier and Logan Thomas before fuller. Let fuller play out his contract, and then take the comp pick if he wants more than he's worth on the next contract. But I don't see the logic in cutting him now.
  4. Love the OL signings. Hope this doesn't lead to us cutting Lucas. We have depth at bargain prices, why ruin that?
  5. I am with you in this approach, mainly bc while you aren't spending huge bucks (something that probably isn't an option for us this year), you are adequately plugging holes. If a lineman at any position is available in the draft, you can plug him in ASAP and depth improves. The only change I'd make to your lineup is I don't want to give up on Cosmi at RT yet. Will H played RG last year, and we can keep norwell at LG for now (to compete with Paul and/or draft pick). Someone had also mentioned RT from raiders being a good value play in the same vein. I think this would be a great approach, and I hope they still come out of the draft with some early linemen.
  6. With bradberry probably walking, and if they end up passing on one of the top 3 cbs, their cbs will suffer a big drop off if slay is traded. In a passing league, I'd love to see it. I hope they pick bijan at 10. Nightmare scenario for us.
  7. With the eagles granting Darius slay permission to seek a trade, this is terrible news for 2 reasons. Strong indicator that eagles will go cb at 10, so not only does it lessen the chance that we get one of the top 3 cbs, but also means one of them will be an eagle. 🤮
  8. Possibly, who knows. Chicago might have viewed Carolina as ideal due to how high next year's first could be compared to other bidders for the #1 pick. Got 2 firsts and a solid wr for fields, so they pounced before Carolina could change their mind, and now have time to try to create a bidding war for #9 and trade back again. What if throughout the draft process Carolina couldn't differentiate much between QB1-QB3, or they preferred a QB who they felt was being overlooked by other teams ( maybe Richardson), and the Cardinals would take significantly less to move up to 3 and they execute a deal with them. Bears instantly lose leverage. Compared to titans - rams trade for goff several years back: titans got 2 firsts, 2 seconds, 2 thirds (one of the first and one of the thirds was for following draft). Bears received 2 firsts and 2 seconds (one of each is next year), and dj Moore. So basically comes down to dj Moore or 2 3rds to see if bears got as much value as titans did (not perfect comparison, I know). A team like the bears who invested in fields, saw a stretch this year where he looked to turn the corner, now give him a legit #1 caliber wr (3 seasons of 90+ catches on resume, durable), I think getting Moore was at least equal, maybe better than 2 3rds. Bears did at least as well as titans in the goff trade imo. Then consider the drop from 1st pick was to 15th in goff trade (compared to 9th for bears) and following year titans picked 5th overall (could be similar for Panthers 1st rounder next year). If bears get some premium picks to move back to middle of first round (and like Conn said there will be a stud available at 9 to make the pick a nice carrot to dangle in a trade), in addition to the haul they got today, I don't think they would lose a second of sleep second guessing their approach with this. I'd venture to guess their decision to pull the trigger early is because theyd love to trade back again, and will now seriously vet the guys on their short list to see if staying pat would be preferable. Now they know their jumping off point. Yup, it all comes down to how does their pick turn out. If it's a hit, the compensation paled in comparison. If it's a miss, they'll be mocked for the bust and seats will get hot. Hope Carolina doesn't forget to draft cousins in the midrounds just in case it doesn't work out.
  9. Bears also are holding a pretty nice lottery ticket for next year. Carolina isn't very good and will have some growing pains. Could be a top 5 pick next year. I like the deal for both sides.
  10. Paris Johnson makes a lot of sense for them. The bears front seven is also pretty bad.
  11. I think that's a fair trade for both sides. Jumping from 9 to 1 is a huge leap. Moore was invisible for a lot of last year, and his production hasn't been worth his cap hit. Fair for the bears, get fields a new weapon and some premium picks, including a lottery ticket that could be at the top next year too. And bears may trade back again with a team chasing QB4 or one of the prospects that falls due to QB run at top. I like it! PS - are we doing ES mock draft again this year?
  12. I don't think he will bust either. I just don't believe in taking a rb that high, given the short shelf life and ability to get impact RBs in the midrounds. I would rather have Tyree Wilson & 3rd round RB than bijan & 3rd round pass rusher. Plenty of other potential combos, but I know you get my point. Maybe the worst case scenario imo is instead of taking bijan they trade back and accumulate more picks and continue their roll of stockpiling premium draft picks. That has not been fun to watch. We both might croak if they trade back AND get bijan 😂
  13. I love Payne and think he has such a huge impact on our defense, I would hate to see him go. I would offer him a deal in the Allen range, which is a pretty aggressive offer. I'd be generous with the guarantees, and I'd be ok with a 5th year. However, if he declines, I would absolutely move him for 18. We will have significantly less leverage negotiating with him next off-season (assuming he performs to expectations), and after bungling the TW and KC exits, it would be nice to get a healthy return.
  14. I would rather our division rival burn a top 10 pick on a rb than watch them get one of the top 3 cbs or one of the top defensive line prospects.
  15. I'm hoping we can extend payne with a deal in the Allen range, but if he is asking for more, then I love that potential scenario. Great value for the OTs coming off the board in that range, and get a starter at center possibly too.
  16. If someone were to give me a contract worth $54 million guaranteed, I would gladly pledge never to run or jump again. But yeah, he is done.
  17. I think we will regret taking an olineman if one of the top 3 cbs are still on the board at 16. If Johnson and Skoronski are gone, any of the tackles are gonna feel like a desperate reach. And it's not as if cb isn't a need. Which means cb may be the spot that we reach on next year if we don't adequately address it now. Just seems those top 3 CBs will be a perfect convergence of BPA and need, barring a tumble down the board from another top prospect. I know we need serious upgrades on oline, but I'd rather address it with value picks in the 2nd / middle rounds than force a pick of lesser value in the first, but it seems a lot of people on here are sold that's the direction we are heading.
  18. Absolutely, not sure where the idea that they are definitely going OL is coming from. Possibility, sure, and we know they want to upgrade the oline this offseason. But there is a strong case for CB in the first too. Any of the top 3 CBs would be great value at 16. BSJ has missed significant time these past 2 seasons, fuller may not be here much longer as you alluded to, and we just cut the cb who had 404 snaps at cb, 3rd most on the team. CB is definitely a need as well.
  19. There is a chance the top 3 cbs are off the board by 16, with a drop off after that, so cutting McCain has got to be an isolated move. They probably feel like Holmes or any other late round cb in 23 would provide better value when considering cap numbers. I am a bit surprised, bc when they announced mccain would be primarily slot cb, he started playing better. But I'm hoping they get Porter and our secondary will be in great shape.
  20. Cutting Wentz was obviously the right move, but it made me wonder if we are in an exclusive club as Washington fans: we get to watch another team make a fairly premium pick (3rd rounder) for a player we traded for that has already sucked his way out of town. Oh well, onwards and upwards with a QB who costs 25+ million less.
  21. I'd love to add RG Isaac Seumalo (Philly). Oline will be a top priority, and I think seumalo will be a great value. He had a great season, is entering his prime, and Philly will have to let some guys walk. We can still take oline if BPA presents an opportunity, and with cosmis G/T flexibility (I hope they don't give up on him at RT), then I think seumalo will be a great first step in putting together a solid unit.
  22. That's been my stance towards Richardson, or any QB that raw. I just don't believe it would work out here right now. Hopefully I feel different in a year or two.
  23. I like Payne much, much more than sweat. Our DT duo is special, where our d line was playing great even when we were starting toohill and JSW last year. I would do everything I could to keep Allen/Payne together. If we trade sweat, I'm not losing any sleep over that. I feel any decent d end will succeed on that d line if our DTs stay. But I do agree with liking the cheap labor behind Payne, that would definitely help cushion the blow! But I think the drop off from payne to Mathis will be felt a lot more than drop off from sweat to day 2 pick to replace him. And I usually would prefer to trade back, but takes two to tango.
