  1. I’m not that sure that Russ is all that much better they Fields at this point and time. The basic plan is that both are better than what they had last year and both are cheap this year. One will show up to be the better qb in the off season, the other will be traded for future draft capital.. book it!
  2. While Wilson might be fuming… great move by the Steelers, because when a starter goes down in preseason next year they can flip either Wilson or fields for a much higher round draft pick. Easy money
  3. guys cmon... i mean yes, a hundred different things can happen. We could draft a qb at #2, but he breaks his leg going up to the podium and Mariota gets hit by car.. so Howell starts the season as the only QB on the roster 🤪 I am just looking at the most likely scenario and one that makes the most common sense....i guess i can be completely off base, but I doubt it, time will tell. its between these 2 options to me: They compete, but we still carry 3 qbs into the season. We trade Howell pre or post draft. *** and i highly doubt we get anything more than a 5th for him. My point is that they know what they have in Mariota, there is plenty of tape and they did not bring him in to compete... they brought him to be the 1st string backup..and possibly even start the first few games if the rookie struggles. Its a 6mil min contract with up to 10mil (with incentives), thats a high end backup contract. You dont make that kind of commitment to a guy you dont expect to be pencilled in as the backup QB. its not like Harris has 6-10mil burning a whole in his pocket and he just wants to spend it on something.. and yachts are just not that cool anymore. Also, this regime didnt draft Howell.. so they have no loyalty to him and based on the roster purge we saw over the last few weeks... they might want to send him packing as well. Sure, i guess its possible that if Howell is on the roster in training camp and finds his inner Brady over the summer and looks so damn impressive in training camp, that he wins the job outright... but i dont see it. (happy to be wrong though) .. and i dont see his presence undermining a top drafted rookie, not even remotely... as a 5th rd pick that didnt play well he is basically a nobody on this roster.
  4. lol. Hell of a deductive logic you got there. You don’t sign a backup qb at 6+mil for one year to have him compete with Howell for the backup job especially if you think Howell has a good chance of winning that competition.
  5. I also find these so called "rumors" of teams willing to give up a 3rd for Howell hilariously comical.. i think a 6th rd pick would be a steal at this point. a..d yes i quoted myself
  6. I do agree that the players started tanking .. but more on the Defensive side. A point you cant refute is even an incompetent buffoon like 'send me the ring' Rivera couldn't help but bench him twice at the risk of completely losing the team and when Briset came in, the O actually looked somewhat competent both times. plenty of no name QBs came in and looked competent for a few games last year before Ds figured them out. Based on how Howell ended the season, no way anyone will trust his as a first backup QB. Briset is an example of a high end back up, Howell is nowhere close at this point of his career. we can agree to disagree but it sounds like the current FO is of the same mind, if they thought Howell could be a backup, they would not have paid Mariota.
  7. sounds like you're trying to talk yourself in to him being an at least average QB... I disagree.. once teams figured him and Bienime out.. he became plain bad. To say nothing about him being a slow processor and taking historic # of sacks. You dont want your backup to come in and right away take -20yds of sacks. Now its possible he can fix these issues.. but at this point he is low end reclamation project at best
  8. I made this argument in a different thread some time back.. that argument was the Howell is not at this point a good backup QB.. he is a 3rd stringer, because he does not yet possess the traits you want in a backup due to lack of time in the NFL and lack of experience. So while its possible he stays on the roster.. i fully believe that if Wash gets an offer of 5th rd or better... they will take it. Saying that.. i am even more puzzled by the Mariota pickup.. since he was never known as a great locker room guy or a great backup that knows his place (ala Brisset) He was always known as the "I am doing my best to be a starter again at all costs" and while thats acceptable when he backs up a veteran, i am not sure how thats beneficial to a rookie QB you plan to draft at #2. So if i put on my tin foil hat.. to me you bring in Mariota to possibly start at the beginning of the season, what that means for the #2 pick?? you decide..
  9. I would guess that with the Mariota signing.. Howell is gone, will most likely be traded during the draft.
  10. he definitely has a lot of miles on him.. and maybe last year he got unlucky that he got hurt in the 1st game and with a high ankle sprain.. those take a long time to heal. We have Rodriguez as well, who showed well in spurts last year. I am definitely keeping fingers crossed for Eckler every time he is on the field.. its really not a matter of if he gets hurt, but when. Still, if he only plays ~30% of RB snaps.. perhaps Wash and he will get lucky and he stays healthy (because when healthy he is a legit game breaker RB, something we havent had here in ages).. god knows we deserve a bit of luck to roll our way at some point. 2020-21 Mccafrey averaged 6g a season due to injuries.. everyone considered him a great but inj prone back. since then he went 16 games with Niners both seasons and thats carrying the ball at historic levels. perhaps a change of scenery, different training and lighter load could also do wanders for Eckler.
  11. to be honest .. the previous Wash regimes over the last 20+ years have proven that these so called "professionals" are no better talent evaluators than an average fan and so fans have the right to question and debate every decision until proven otherwise... lets hope the current FO group is different.
  12. I dont believe Eckler just fell off a cliff all of a sudden. he was still electric when on the field and healthy... thats the big question mark.. can he stay healthy in a limited role as a 2nd RB.. we will see, but the risk is worth it IMO. At worst its a one year 5mil deal for RB that doesnt work out. Draft is weak this year for RBs but i am sure we will still pick one up late. Brob can carry the full load if needed and is an underrated pass catcher/
  13. I like the Armstrong signing... looks like a good up and coming DE that averaged 8 sacks a year in a rotational role.. if we draft another one high and resign of our rotation guys we should be OK at de
  14. if you actually watched him play.. calling him ever mediocre is a reach. and since he is about to have hip surgery its an easy decision
