27 isn't young for a RB.  Portis for example was almost done at that age.  Been injury prone too.   It's almost a cliche in the anayltics community that you don't give a RB a 2nd big contract -- and Shen the anayltics guy here actually said the same in one of his lectures.

Robinson is a good back.  So basically to discard Robinson for an aging injured back who wants big money seems odd.

But for me more on point with this teams needs -- CB, O line, S, Edge, TE, MLB, am not blowing one of those spots off to strengthen further one of their few strengths,

I recall the Hard Knocks show when the Dolphins were headed to play this team and they didn't seem to respect this offense a heck of a lot aside from the RBs.

I would take a shot at Ekler at half the price 7/8 mil with incentives because he is that quick 3rd down back that we do not have. But prefer to go to the draft.

I'm not big on RW at all, but this is accurate.

It's also accurate that he is done. He was terrible his first year with the Broncos and just a little better last year after having Payton working with him. No need to sign for a Old washed up Vet again, Ron is gone. We have Coaches, will have a Blue Chip QB?, and already have a couple other QB's to work with.

Where do people think McCarthy would be going if he was 210-215 pounds instead of 197-202?

He has got age on his side too, just turning 21. High school and college National Championships. Can sit him a year, still growing, played in a pro style offense. And you may get extra picks. Maye at 2 or McCarthy and some comp. is what I want to happen. Keep Howell for both of the QB's whoever it is. I got past the friend's thing with Howell and believe it could work.

The thing is, cap space does roll over year-to-year... so you're still maintaining a competitive advantage long-term by not going on some crazy spending spree when your team's still not truly competitive enough to compete for a championship.  When you're legitimately a SB contender, that's when you should go all out.

Agee totally, no need to overpay this year. If you hit the lottery you still need to have control if you want it to last.

When you are riding the Metro on the Blue Line for games to FedEx, I look out the window and basically see RFK decaying down while the parking lot is basically soccer fields. This is what the community wants.

The community didn't want a stadium that only hosted games 8 days a year. Not sure how they'd feel about a complex being attached to it, it would generate more foot traffic on non-game days, but also gentrify the neighborhood and raise rent

It was a pole they took about the Mayor and the site for the stadium. They will work something out.

70% of the local neighborhood people in the lasted survey are against a stadium at the old RFK site. They want parks, fields for the kids among other things and do not want the traffic it will bring.

The Bears traded the pick because they thought they had a guy in Fields. Not really the same situation. They aren't going to trade it this year because now they're sure he's not and there is a guy available who projects to be.

It was the right move for the Bears no big contract for fields and a QB on another rookie contract? Was not going to happen if they drafted instead last year and took the wrong QB. Carolina lost there MoJo and now have a hard road to climb. I get the point of QB at 2 but it is not the only way. Odds favor take the QB at 2nd pick. They have to believe he is there man.

It doesn't matter how many picks you have if you have no plan at QB. What the heck did the Rams do with all the picks from RG3? Squadoosh. You have no idea what picks in the future might entail.

Its easy to say "build the team around the QB" but what if you end up in the situation we've been in the last 3 years where after passing up on MULTIPLE franchise caliber QBs, we're stuck scrambling and having to overpay for veterans like Fitzpatrick or Wentz because the high quality vets we wanted didn't wanna come here(Stafford and Wilson)and we didn't draft high enough to take anyone worth a darn. If you don't have a GUY at QB you have no chance. Zilch. Zip. None. There is no feasible plan without having that guy in place.

And Howell has not shown enough that he can be that guy. Just about every metric has him as a bottom tier starting QB. He doesn't really have elite measurables. Strong arm but that's it(undersized, quick but not very fast, holds the ball too long slow processor etc.). He's also already played out two years, so his value of the rookie contract is cut in half. He is absolutely NOT someone you pass up on blue chip QBs for. If this were like the 2022 draft and the best QBs are the likes of Kenny Pickett then yeah, sure, stockpile the roster and run it back with Howell, but this is not the draft to do that.

Just look at last year, the Bears played it right and are set up for the new QB if they want? Look at Carolina 1 year wasted of the rookie contract and build, now they are without a 1st rd. pick to grab a top prospect. Ron sucked on the rebuild. With the right Person making the right picks and how to do it, any way can work. The 2 QB's in the S.B. were 2nd. tier and not in a tier at all.  Choices and a open mind to everything is what I am trying to think about this. We all have favorites or how to do it. Let's hope new owners picked the right people to do the job.

What? My observation is the opposite. He throws a pretty consistent tight spiral all over. Generates a lot of spin. For all his faults, tight spirals are not any of them. Not sure that we are watching his same games. I've watched (checks notes) all of them. Only times I've seen a duck come out of his hand is when he was getting hit while throwing.

Tez Walker was ball dropping machine in the senior bowl practices, I think he could have hurt his stock bigtime. He was Maye's go to you would think just saying.

This is a huge point....Mahomes is a product of a professional baseball player. If he played baseball as a kid then he can slide.

Been making that point since Robert3. Mahomes is different because he was allowed to use his baseball talents. Side vision, arm angles, sliding...Guessed Daniels never played baseball when he was a kid.

And Lamar was outside the top 10 in passing yards and passing tds

also if you want to use one year wonder on Jayden, aren’t you a little concerned that Maye and Caleb regressed this season? They’re trending down while Jayden is trending up. Jayden also played much better competition, sort of like that Joe Burrow guy.

Lamar was most likely outside the 10 this year in passing too, less than 4,000 yds. But he won MVP for the second time.  The Ravens will walk through a fire with him, the Def. too, they played and beat everybody but K.C.  Mahomes numbers were down too this year but he got another ring. Just wasting time with the numbers game. They are going to pick who they think has what they need at QB.

I love that our offensive staff has either coached or were around the following QBs at some point in their careers:

    • Patrick Mahomes (Kingsbury)

    • Aaron Rodgers (David Raih)

    • Ben Roethlisberger (Bobby Engram)

    • Josh Allen (Bobby Johnson)

    • Andrew Luck (Pritchard - though he was a defensive assistant at the time)

    • Lamar Jackson (Bobby Engram)

    • Justin Herbert (Anthony Lynn)

    • Dak Prescott (Brian Johnson)

    • Jared Goff (Anthony Lynn)

    • Jalen Hurts (Brian Johnson)

    • Kyler Murray (Kingsbury)

    • Baker Mayfield (Kingsbury & David Raih)

They were close enough to see how these QBs operated on a daily basis.  The level of first-hand experience these guys can share on what it takes to be an good-to-great QB in this league (level of work ethic, film study, training, preparation, etc.) is invaluable for a young QB.

Asst. QB coach just retired at 27 (Vet). You see the list above, why do we need to bring in a Vet? We have teachers that are going to help all the Qb's. It almost feels like the people that want Howell gone are worried about Howell beating their pick out or looking over their picks shoulder? He is on a rookie contract for 2 more years and maybe longer who knows, why trade him?  Draft another QB later too if they like one?

Nobody actually wants to play in D.C. even if they're from here. Caleb Williams went to HS here and went to college at freaking Oklahoma and then LA. Kevin Durant is from here and played his college ball at Texas and wouldn't even meet with the Wizards. The hometown allure is non existent for D.C. And honestly, the fact that he's from here is actually a negative to me. Way too many family/friends/enablers and the whole hometown hero savior angle could be crippling to what already seems like kind of a fragile psyche.

Honestly we can't really go wrong with either. Its gonna come down to how we commit to their development but both are as good as QB prospects as you can realistically ask for.

The D.C. thing is true, All the big Schools get first 's on a lot most of the local talent. Durant went to Texas. Mins away from MD. GT.

Burrow's LSU had a signifcantly better defense. Unfortunately last season LSU's defense was ranked #103 😩

LSU, is always up there top 5/10 mostly in HS recruiting with Bama,OHST, Texas, Georgia Lately, Then LSU, Mich, Penn ST. Florida, FL. ST. Clemson...and a few others every year.  They have talent and it's hard to figure out why they are as bad as you say?

But why would Wagner come here if he can get similar money from a known, established contender?

     Familiar Coaches

Completely disagree. We had a high school coach for our secondary after firing our first one and our DC. It's hard to judge any of our players from last season because our HC, OC and DC were all awful.

Hope your right, preseason games to regular season was not starter caliber. His weight is always going to be a concern on running downs. I do like the new coaches and they will be a big upgrade for all.

There are some really bad takes going on in here.

If you sign Bobby Wagner, who has a ton of experience with our LBer coach, a known leader and hard worker, experience with our HC and put him in the middle of the defense he absolutely becomes a mentor, even if its just from osmosis.

He also is going to be looking over his shoulder for a younger guy to over take his job. That's hysterical. He's a top 3 LBer.

We are not going to be a bad team next year. We're going to start winning quickly, so while some of you guys think we'll be bad for a couple years because you're jaded, we're going to be a lot closer to the Texans last year and I wouldn't be shocked to win the East, so yes, signing top notch FAs makes a ton of sense.

I agree you have the tackles he will make plays still at his age. And a big need till you get the youth.

Forbes was actually better in man in college.  Off-man versus press-man which is actually how Dallas played a lot.

So that's part of the reason why we've heard to death after the hire that Whitt is likely to be good for Forbes and some questions about Fuller.

But even if I thought that Forbes was a zone guy.  Why would that force me to suck it up with Fuller too?  They have no choice but to run it back with Forbes.  They have a choice at CB.

Fuller is a smart guy and am sure can adjust to more of a man scheme but he's 29 and not as fast as he once was from what I heard.  CBs who play a man scheme are really helped by speed considering they have to run up and down the field with the WR.

    https://draftwire.usatoday.com/2022/10/21/nfl-draft-emmanuel-forbes-mississippi-state-man-coverage-pro-football-focus/

Mississippi State CB Emmanuel Forbes is dominating in man coverage

If you’re an opposing quarterback, and you see Mississippi State’s Emmanuel Forbes lined up across from your best receiver, you’d best be looking elsewhere once the ball is snapped.

Forbes has been an absolute shutdown artist in man coverage this season, giving up just one reception on 11 targets, picking off five passes, and allowing a big ol’ goose egg in the QB rating column (per Pro Football Focus).

Despite going up against top talent in the SEC every week, Forbes has been dominant when locked up in 1-on-1 situations. That fact won’t escape the sight of NFL scouts when draft season rolls around.

Forbes has been nothing about dominance in the NFL just the opposite. The speed WR's beat him, bigger WR's not (height abuse him). I think the best we can hope for is a 3rd down CB.

WRs always break the bank. And with Gabe Davis, he's been SO close every year, someone will think they can unlock him to his full potential. My guess is he's going to get paid. May end up being the top WR on the market when tags/extensions are done --- I would guess $15-18m APY.

Just checked, Spotrac has him at $13.6m projection - 4 years $56m

Players like this are what we do not need, If he was anything special the Bills would keep him. He is all or nothing with a good QB, way overrated. We have a bunch of 600/700 WR's on the team. No.3/4 WR @ 13 mil?

Agree, easy to miss on QB, and I must admit that with hindsight it seems like, wherever they took Haskins (RIP, way too soon), it was a reach lol.

But I also remember the buzz about Snydely's infatuation, reflected in mocks like this one from Walter who (among numerous others) accurately predicted we'd take Haskins:

"Haskins has a tremendous skill set, but is not a finished product at the moment. Teams don’t have first-round grades on him, so he could fall into the 20s. However, Daniel Snyder reportedly likes him, as his son went to school with Haskins, a local product."

    https://walterfootball.com/draft2019.php

Did we pick him at like 16? Seems like most of the picks recently by Ron and company were reaches.

He isnt going to be worth more next year when he is heading into the last year of his contract. Not gonna happen.

I guess you are bringing in a Vet$$ to hold the blue chippers hand. If so, makes no sense at all we have a young Vet coach for that.  Having Howell on a rookie contract for 2 years+ is the play for me? Also Howell does not have to be worth more next year, but it's possible?   Or you have 2 rookies and a practice squad QB on the team at QB that would eat a draft pick up unless he is a RFA.

And with Darnold, and with Sanchez, you keep trying until you get him. Simple as that. You saw how important the QB position was exemplified in them. They went from Rodgers, to Wilson and other detritus, and their double digit win team turned straight to swamp --- trash w/the downgrade at QB. Elite WRs: Check, Elite RB's? Check adequate OL etc? Check Elite Defense: Check? Crap QB: Check, and they sucked. It was a perfect illustration of how utterly pointless it is to try opposing team building strategies. If a QB alone can be responsible for turning an AFC contender into straight trash, that tells you all you need to know. Keep trying to get the QB until you get him. Period.

And Rogers out for the season made it a couple plays. disagree on OL adequate and think it is no better than ours. agree with everything else, Blue Chippers crapped on them over the years. Went with the Vet this year for 35mil that worked out great. Like I said we need Luck, they have had none.
