Lockett wasn't much of a receiver until his fourth season when he was 26.  Jahan has already posted similar production to Lockett's first two years and he came into the NFL a year younger.  I don't think that is too high a bar for Jahan to reach, especially not as his best case scenario.  It would also be a pretty major disappointment if Jahan didn't break out until he was 26.  He kind of needs to do it this year.  Definitely has to if he wants his fifth year picked up.

Agree he needs to turn it around I hope he can.  It would be a disappointment if the former middle 1st. rd. pick did not breakout until 26. But no matter which ever way you steer it, if he becomes another Tyler we will be happy or at least I will.

  2. I see Eckeler getting a lot of work in the Red Zone, where he has been a TD machine and as the third down back, we have sucked in that area. I think he plays 50% of the game because he blocks, catches and can still run the ball. Maybe not the same player as age and injuries slowed him down last year and the clocks running but I still have faith. B. Robinson is what he is a good back nothing great.

Terry played through turf toe.  And he definitely got frozen out by Howell and Bieniemy.  Howell never really trusted him and Bieniemy's system sucked for receivers.  Despite all of that, he still got his thousand yards.

Jahan has somewhat low upside because of his lack of size and strength, although he does have weirdly strong red zone ability for a tiny receiver because he is so good at playing above the rim.  He's not going to have a Nico Collins type of break out because of the lack of play strength though.  His best case scenario is probably Tyler Lockett with a red zone game, which would be huge for us.  Wish we would use him in the return game.  He's the best return man on our roster now that Gibson is gone.

I do think that Jayden will be very good for Jahan at least, as long as Jayden hits the ground running.  You don't want to play a bunch of man coverage against Jayden because of his incredibly dangerous run threat, which should free Jahan up to get off the line of scrimmage.  You also don't necessarily want to play a ton of two high against Jayden for the same reason, and Terry is the one who will dictate the high safety, so Jahan is going to get a lot of one on ones.  The table is set for him to have success.  He just needs to run his routes like a stud and catch the ball.

We could use more speed at WR though.  Speed is what defines Miami and KC and we don't have anyone in our offense with elite speed other than Jayden.  Jayden's a gifted vertical passer, we need multiple guys who can smoke one on one coverage deep to take advantage of this.

We also need a way better OL.  We need a group that can hold up forever in pass pro, and I'm still not sure what kind of run game we are installing.  I'd consider totally reshuffling the line.  Cosmi is our best pass protector and our fastest OL.  Braeden Daniels our second fastest one.  We also know Wylie has an issue with over setting.  Why not try Cosmi and Daniels at our tackle spots and move Wylie inside then?  Especially if you want to run outside zone a lot.

Are you underestimating Tyler Lockett or setting the bar for Dotson high. Lockett is a little older now but if Jahan reached Tyler's career one day, then he would have been a good pick in the 1st. rd. for sure is what I think. I would take a Tyler Lockett type WR any day.

I would welcome the slant merchant on an incentive-laden contract but he’s best at this point as a big slot and we’ve got some in-house candidates to play a lot of snaps there. He’d most likely spend the majority of the season on IR but he’s excellent in traffic over the middle which can help a young QB. And his ego has reduced in size over the last few disappointing seasons, so you no longer have to worry about the ballhog mentality

Injuries and some other things reduced his play the last couple years for sure. But he does a lot more than the slants. He can go up and bring the ball down too, side lines whatever?

He specifically said he didn't feel like himself that last season and you could look at it and see it. I honestly think it was just bad coaching, low moral and knowing none of this was going anywhere. Guys like Terry, who can see the writing on the wall and play hard anyway, are rare. Not that its a good excuse, mind you. He cant do it again. But thats what it looked like to me.

A number of good WR's come on their 2nd. year also. Could be bad coaching, QB whatever? Maybe they lost confidence in his ability to catch the ball, I did.  Stroud did wonders for the young WR's last year maybe JD will too?

  6. Michale Thomas would be the FA I would like to bring in and kick the tires. I know it's most likely not popular here and he would have to be healthy and the kind of team player type they are looking for, not sure he is? Price may not be right either?  I liked Eckler and Thomas early on before FA started, when they were not that popular as a signing here. Just my opinion of who I think could help the WR group, maybe?

While I understand your rankings, I'm not sure how Milton is in a tier up at 1mph faster than McCarthy.  Only thing I can think is that people watch tape and see a deep pass that is not quite lofted, not quite laser and don't understand arm strength. JJ can literally throw the ball like 30+ yards with no throwing base and doing a 360 in the air.

McCarthy throws lasers on the run, not sure I agree at all with this assessment. From the pocket, yeah. Maybe there's mechanical or mental thing there. But on the run or throwing without a base at all? Nah, disagree. It's why he was a 5 star recruit.

My thoughts watching the combine McCarthy had a better arm then everybody throwing except for Milton stronger than Penix, also thought the QB we signed as a UDFA had the one of the weaker arm's so he is my least favorite rookie for that reason and was not that excited about the signing. Daniels, Caleb and Maye were not there to go toe to toe.

Nice pull on the shoulder... likely just draft paranoia.

FTR I am not disputing that the league has universally switched to rotating out defensive players notably the DL. Again what I am disputing is that our top players are out of shape or otherwise unable to perform to expectations in just 5.5 minutes of full bore strenuous activity, very liberally spread across 3 hours.  I still contend I will take Allen at 95% than Potatoe' at 100% ICE COLD. That clear backup guy coming in ice cold better be damn ready to get attacked by OCs searching for weak links, and outperform Allen.  If I am an OL or OC I am thrilled Allen and Payne are on the bench. Until we got Newton, at least.

If the modern day DCs going to a scrub backups in the 3rd series was a game changer, backup DL would have higher PFF grades than the starters, right?? Finally we have stats on this ****. The backup laden defense collectively also posting better stats than the starters. Lets see them.

I bet some here may recall hearing pass rushers subbed out annoyed because they had been setting up an OL and on the bench, their plan neutered.

A coach knows who has a high motor laced on Sudafed and a guy that is out of shape. . Sub accordingly.  Here are 2 motors from back in the day.

Is that the hit Dexter put on Danny White, ringing his clock? If so said he was going to do it before the playoff game, and backed it up. White was never the same after that game. Monte closing in too.

  9. Rating players that could make the team or position better rather than from a big board of rating best available at that position. Could be why we took Coleman over Bebe?

Can Coleman if he hits at LT make the team better? Bebe may be BPA but does he make the team better at G only? Do the 3 players they tock in the 2nd. rd. make the team better at CB,DT and TE and the team better versus the OT's that were available? That is what they are betting on and the way they do things in S.F. along with having a consensus pick by the group.

Jeff Hostetler worn it as well when he played for the Redskins….and 19 is definitely a partial number in my house hold…. 19 is the # my Son has worn since he played tee ball and he’s stuck with it through out his baseball journey… he’s going to D3 Saint Vincent College next year and it looks like he won’t be getting it since a current Jr has it… not since Joe Montana with the Chiefs do I remember a #19… oh Scott Mitchell for Detroit was too

Johnny Unitas 19 Colts, Wore 15 at Louisville and it's retired.

  11. Last year's draft was a wakeup call for me and I bet a lot of fans.  We were going to go with the QB we drafted, no more castoffs from other teams. Then the season started and went downhill from there. Reality set in, halfway threw the season the players that were drafted and FA's were mistakes per what was needed, the coaches did not help things and the ship was sinking. By the time the season ended Ron needed to go down with his ship.

Its a bit odd how some get on tilt if you mention that Fields may have untapped potential. Ironically, Fields destroyed our defense in one half better than any other QB did all year. Eliminating the narrative but it was us. And it could have been worse if he didn't miss wide open Mooney deep and have to punt. And he did it without running. IIRC his OL was also in tatters. Lost their top RB early if not the backup as well. Or 3. JDR was probably on tilt fearing his legs.

Chicago is the place QBs go to die as we all know. I continually beat the drums about how an OC gets a pass for his failures while its all the young QBs fault. I call bunk that an NFL starting QB "can't pass".  What is true is that OCs often struggle to swallow their pride and implement a playbook call routes and plays that a QB excels at.

Smart cheap pickup low risk move by Pitt.

So would you rather have Fields or Russell as your starter, that seemed to be the point and who was the best fit. I would take Fields to if I did not have a QB, would rather had Howell who lite up some better teams than Washington.

It’s just a opinion, it’s not fact… i just personally think Fields wasn’t given a full hand, 2 HC and 3 OC in his 3 seasons. At this time of their careers I think Fields gives the Steelers the best outcome at QB.

I don’t understand why ppl blast others for their opinions on a player, a pick, a coach etc…. Sometimes I wonder how this board or other boards manage to stick around.

They will find a way to use his running style to mix it up, if Wilson has nothing left then it is Fields. Fields had 4 years in Chicago they were just spinning wheels with him, my opinion not bashing.

How would you describe someone as "primarily a pocket passer?

    Rushing and pass attempts? Yards?

Injuries no doubt are a concern, no argument from me.

(Rings) look at the QB's if they are not elite Passers there will be no rings. Elite runners can only get you so far, the passer trumps the runner in this NFL. Wilson, Mahomes, are mobile QB's that buy time and they have rings because they can pass the ball. The pocket passers still get it done too, mobile might be better these days too. But runners have an empty trophy case at this point.

    And…

    Adam Peters/Dan Quinn

Bears draft, Caleb W. same type QB as Russell and ditched the nonpassing, running QB Fields. When Fields can pass the ball in the NFL he will make it, J. Daniels has a chance because he can Pass the ball, like Russell has done from the get go. Russell has a ring too. They will have some running plays in Pittsburg for Fields like NO does for 2 QB's. Big Ben has rings too, that's what they want, if they only could clone him? The locker room will side with Russell if he has anything left, especially the WR's. That's my opinion on this matter.

Rogers will be the 1st then Turner, Bates stays solely cause he is a good blocker and can/will make the occasional catch and also for the sole fact Zack Ertz won’t play the entire 17 weeks season due to injury… Ertz, Sinnott and Turner

For me it's Bates, he has been here to long and done next to nothing, average blocker that's it, I need to see what A.Rogers if healthy has, turner gets a shot too but Ertz has his spot taken care of as right now.

Most advanced metrics had this OL as around mediocre but not as terrible as many here think. Bad scheme and a QB that has a propensity for taking a ton of sacks going back to college made them look worse than they are.

Wylie is such an interesting case. His metrics suggest he's actually half decent. The problem is when he does get beat, he gets beat BAD. Its not like ok he got beat but can still put up a fight, when he loses a rep he often completely whiffs.

Bad get's your QB killed and it was worst inside so maybe they fixed some of that. No's are just no's and do not tell the real story, sometimes you have to believe your eyes.

Just like when the oline was getting RG3 killed, everyone said how bad they were. Kirk came in and they looked fine.

We have had what 7/8 starting day 1 QB's and most played their last games here and not make it through the season. The OL has been terrible during these times. They have not been okay. OL rebuild should have started last year when we were in position to take them, instead we got DB's. Ravens, Steelers just rebuild the lines year after year through the draft mainly. I guess we will see this year and do not blame the new staff for taking who they took instead of OL. Maybe their 2 FA signings and 3rd rd. draft pick will improve the line from last year?

  19. I wanted the team to draft 3 QB's before Daniels, 2 with a trade down. Reason being body and age and running style for fear of injuries. That's it never posted or commented on stats numbers, metrics, mother, Arm......I Commented on the hits he received and his style running and player comparable. I commented for the opposition quite a bit for what I wanted and who I like, with that said they picked J.D. and I believe in the front office and loved this draft top to bottom. To me he is Field's running, but a much better passer. His body is more a W.R. type while Jamar has a running back type build, he can take and give hits, straight arms what ever. Never had any hate for him and said in the end I would be on board if they pick him. Also think these coaches will be wise to keep him as safe as possible while using all his skills. Hail to the Commanders we have a new QB!

Dude, I called this draft. I called Alt to the Chargers, I called the trade down, I definitely called DL and CB in the second a hundred times. I switched my tune on QB last week because of a private discussion with Sip, which I hate, but am open to, but I nailed this draft and have been called an idiot for a lot of it.

This year, when I had eye surgery and couldn't sit up for a week, I just watched tape. I know I trailed off. My top 100 was close to GCs though.

We've crushed this draft like crazy.

Dudes a first round IDL and as good as anyone and we're use to crap like Ridgeway. Mathis is done as well. Out of the league this year probably.

We just permanently cemented our best strength. That rotation is nasty. Right in the middle we're coming. I bet we have some happy linebackers after that pick

You did call DL before the senior bowl 3/4 type end, I was right there too even suggested FL. St. Fiske after watching S.B. practice.  My only post before the 2nd. rd. started I said we should take a hard look at DL because of value, also suggested the trade down on our pick 40. I like the pick of course but thought it might be Jenkins or Fiske in a trade down. Thought we might take Ladd first (SIP pick for 36).  But he went 2 picks before ours liked him also from the senior bowl.

He was my second favorite day 3 WR after Malik Washington. I think he can develop into a really good WR1 with this group. I love this pick.

I still want a 5'8" 200lbs MJD built, but WR with breakaway speed like Malik on day 3 to return kicks and handle screens and stuff.

Man, I have called this draft so close to perfect.

What was the trade for multiple 50's picks? That was genius. I've been Pounding the table for that for months

I agree nice draft, OT early could not happen without a trade, so they took DL where the value was. Did not get Ladd, Roman, he is that type and our pick from the Bears late 3rd, so would not have been their rd.5.

We are not trading our best player in Allen. Him and Payne have a real chance to blow up this year. Our team is Allen. He's seriously our best player and a total leader of the team.

Trading Allen would be a shot in our foot. We built on our only strength and don't need scrubs like Mathis and Ridgeway anymore.

Iaoniddis had one good year, got flagged for drugs and has sucked since. Why do people still like him?

Now you have another man in the middle who can rotate and not lose a beat while keeping all fresh or 3/4 at times. Very happy with the pick, the run on OL in the first made it possible for him to drop. The value was DL early 2nd. I posted we should take a hard look in my other post.

4.70 40, 72nd percentile speed score. Kelce was 4.66 a decade ago, Mark Andrews is 4.67, Trey McBride is 4.61, Laporta 4.59, Pitts is a freak (low 4's), Kittle was 4.52 back when he was healthy, Dalton Kincaid was 4.68. He's definitely on the slow end of the field behind like literally every single top 10ish guy in the league, but he's also not outside the realm of the athleticism you need, as shown by the 72nd percentile speed score. With TE's the more athletic the better though in terms of hit rate and his burst and agility scores are sub 50th percentile, so athleticially, his profile is meh, you've got a point, I'm not in the cant stand him area, I like him, but he is a floor TE. Better than the guys in this class other than Bowers, but not great. Just solid plus guy (to me anyway). I can see your point, maybe my trade idea is a bit silly, how about dangling the late 3rd and a future 7th lol.

I do not see why the Raiders would want to trade their physical TE, just because they drafted a 235lb TE who runs like a WR. They should use them both. They did not get a QB yesterday, Minshew is going to need the help and they will most likely run the ball more.

As for WRs, this is the list IMO of WRs that fit Daniels in some aspect.  I'd put Burton high on the list too but heard he's off some teams board based on character issues

As for Adonai am lower on him than most.  As I am lower also on Franklin.  But as I discussed with you in other posts, I don't always assume that i am right and the masses are wrong.  So I got an open mind.

As for Adonai, he's good at seperating.  Has killer speed.  Tracks the ball well.  Good at beat man-press.  Good at out routes which is what Daniels specializes in.

    Screen Shot 2024-04-26 at 6.43.08 AM.png

I am with you on Ladd if he is there at 36 he is the best value. I like Wilson with are 1st. 3rd rd. pick if he is still on the board, they just fit what we need.  I think we go OL, DE with 40 or trade down and have lots of choices from 40 till the end of 4th rd. TE, LB.... there is still a couple DL players that I would give a hard look in this range. Take my shots at DB's after the 4th. No need to reach for a player even though OT is the top need at this point, the ship might have sailed on the top ones?
