Roethlisberger didn't really get beaten up until the end of his career. He was also a much better QB than Cunningham. Not sure why all of a sudden we're talking like Randall freaking Cunningham is some god's gift to QB-ing.

If you wanted to sack big Ben you better bring your A game and if you were a DB, small LB most the time it did not happen. I would take him over Randall without much thought. Give me the tough QB not the fragile one.

  2. At the end of the day the Scouts, Coaches, Keim unless it's coming from a source inside the Commanders office, Shefty the same thing, It's who they would take on outside sources information.  Who cares right now? They have no real sources, just opinions?  I am just hoping It's who I would take or want them to take and that's it at this point. The front office shut the media out this time, great for them that's different.  Also not interested in Numbers Metrics, Media, or any of that it's, time to move on.

    I want in this order,

1.Maye fits the type QB I want for this team.

    Upside, Age, Size, Leader.

    2. J.J. McCarthy

QB Type, Size, age, leader winner

better with a small trade down if possible.

    3. Penix

Really good QB, not what I really want but in a trade down I am okay.

    4. Daniels

Not the QB type I want for the team but if they take him, I hope he becomes a really good QB and I was wrong.

I know this sounds like a bit of a conspiracy theory and maybe there is nothing to it or good alternative explanations but I find it interesting that this JD is/should be a lock at #2 is being pushed by a lot of ESPN people (Kiper, Yates, Orlovsky, Schefter, etc.). Maybe it's a misconception but to me it feels like reporters from other outlets (e.g. Athletic or NFL Network) are much more careful in their wording with regards to the #2 pick even if they think JD will or should be the pick.

Reasons could be that the ESPN people are simply better plugged in with us or just in general. But it also does not seem so far fetched to think that they are promoting Daniels because he is the starboy of the SEC (consciously or unconsciously). They make it known how hard the competition was that he faced over there and how incredible he is while ****ting on Maye's competition in the ACC. None of that is untrue but it's still noteworthy how much they seem to push for that. Kiper got really angry in that video about how JD might not be a lock to the Commanders anymore. Like 3-4 weeks he had both on par and as a coinflip and now he is so invested in JD at #2...

Daniel Jeremiah talked about this weird reporting here at 7:40. That there is a huge narrative out there about who we (it's pretty evident he is talking about us without saying our name) apparently pick when the decision makers haven't even decided yet (and he insinuates that he talked to Peters recently). I feel like a lot of that is coming from ESPN-affiliated people. Interestingly, Jeremiah is one of the people who still has us taking Maye.

Maybe it's nothing, but I find it interesting nonetheless.

He had the no.6 overall mock draft score last year and no.16 over the last 5 years. Peter Schrager no.31 and did not make the top 68 over 5 years.

Even if you don't like the way the Commanders are going about it, complaining about it on social media is very stupid. That's why I'm wondering if either 1) Daniels really doesn't want to go to the Commanders, 2) @KDawgis right and he was told he wasn't going to be the pick so this is saving face, or 3) Jayden's agent truly just just a few nuggets short of a happy meal.

    All 3 is my guess.

The RG3 Daniels comparisons are annoying.

Daniels has shown he can go through his reads and throw with anticipation -- best in his class according to many.

RG3 pretty much never showed he could do that. In Kyle's offense he was great if his first read was open. After that, especially once the league caught on, it was not good.

They said the same about RG3 he could do it all before the draft. He is closer to RG3 than Jamar is, my opinion. A better passing Fields who had the advantage of 2 great college WR's.

    Cliff notes.

Love the intangibles.  His arm is stronger IMO than some of his critics here say it is.

Outside of Caleb, the best off platform QB in this group as to consistency.

Clutch -- big plays on third and long.

Good wheels that I would use more.

Don't love his ability to layer throws and change speeds -- stuff that Maye IMO is good at.

There is something missing that is hard to quantitfy for me while watching him that makes me think his ceiling is limited.  But he has a high floor.  He reminds me of a cross of college Tannehill (college Tannehill was great with boots and was an underrated athlete) and Alex Smith.

I see Brock Purdy more than anybody else.  I agree there is something missing too. Maybe the deep balls? While Maye 2 years ago, Penix and Daniels have WR's with blazing speed, length.. Mich does not and those type players or call those plays.  Roman is a good WR with good not great speed 4.4. with average size. What would J.J. do with those type WR's that Penix or Daniels have?   If you could get him for a slight trade down and a pick it's a option.

I want Maye too.  But the Daniels hate here is wild and over the top IMO -- its not consistent at all with the takes on Daniels judging by stories-leaks-people who know him, NFL observors on and on.      Outside of here, he's an exciting prospect.  Here the dude is a cross between Josh Johnson and Colt McCoy.

Even though I am one of the more optimistic people in the context that I think the pick still can be Maye but it feels like Daniels has a legit shot.

So what happens if they take Daniels, I gather deep depression from some then.  And then the Peters honeymoon is either over or some will come up with some narrative that the poor dude was coerced into making the decision. 😢

It's not hate, Age, QB style fragile... for me and most. It's not about no.s , metrics. Seems to be a good Person too. I think there is more hate for J.J. then J.D. too.

If Drake Maye had taken that $8 million that Alabama offered him we’d be talking about how we are getting either him or Caleb, whichever one the Bears don’t take. JJ McCarthy would be a day three pick or UDFA after they got their asses kicked in the semi finals.

Should have taken the 8Mil. Now he will never know what it is like to hold a national college championship trophy. Mean while J.J. gets to add another to his collection right next to his High School National championship and H.S. state championship.

Drake Maye is a pretty good boat captain.

Jayden Daniels is a pretty good captain win it’s sunny with calm seas.

JJ McCarthy is a cabin boy.

Drake Maye I can make that without hitting the key bridge, let's go!

Jayden Daniels got it on cruise control guys, aw crap we lost power, what can I do now? Looks like a big collision ahead!

J.J. McCarthy glad I got that tug boat to get me into the Bay it's a little choppy out here!

Sounds like JJ is the most extroverted, social, and comfortable under media lights, Maye is close, and the sense I get is Jayden is not, at all.

In fairness to Jayden, if he's really ----ing good at the next level, nobody's gonna care much that he's shy and soft spoken, they'll listen a la Art Monk, and follow.

Sometimes the quiet guy is the hardest worker and the Mouth guy is just that from what I have seen over the years.

You sort of have to show you’re not just a game manager to go top 3 in the draft. If this team drafts JJ , just sets back the team another 5 plus years. Would be disastrous.

A disaster would be to lose Daniels to injury at 26 years old, J.J. has time on his side.  If any of the 4 QB's busts and we take one of them it's not going to set us back 5 years? We still have our future picks.  Hitting on a QB can happen because it's possible to draft one anywhere with a little luck on your side if you fail at no.2.

I know the trade back is what you've been on and off pining for -- for a long time.

But the impression i get is the opposite.  There is so much mixed takes from NFL insiders as to what happens at #2.  But the one point they almost all rally and converge on is that Washington is sticking at #2.  If you were a Patriots fan though this would be a dream period for you, a lot of smoke that they might trade back.

I don't get the vibe that Peters wants to dabble in the land of mediocrity-QB purgatroy with a trade back.  Feels very much like they are either torn between 2 QBs and want to dissect every detail or are in the lets make sure our preference is the right guy by diving into that player right to the end.

Once Howell was traded early that kind of changed the scope of things for a trade down unless it's a very small one at most.

Schefter is certainly a credible source. The last day for 30 visits is Wednesday according to the NFL website.

So if the reputably sourced reports that we've heard are accurate  this would mean...

    Mon-Tue: Daniels

    Tue-Wed: McCarthy

    Tue- Wed: Maye

    Tue- Wed: Penix

    Something still isn't right.

And no Daniels report for today? You think the media would be in Ashburn today.

ASSUMING THIS LAST POST IS CORRECT:

    Holy **** boys!

I'm writing this down in pen.

Daniels is their guy barring a complete and utter collapse tomorrow.

No way you give him a whole day and everybody else gets shoehorned into a single day.

    No way.

I don't buy it. They've essentially made up their minds. Everything else is just a stone you hurl at the sea.

Schefter is right again. Damn he is a boss! How does he always know????

And John Scholtz says Penix is meeting tomorrow after NE today.

Mmmm, in '17 we could have gotten Mahomes, in '18 we could have gotten Allen, in '20 we could have gotten Herbert, in '21 Fields. I am ecstatic we finally got tanking for right for the first time in decades, ecstatic. I'm not so ecstatic that the rumors feel like we're gonna take the riskiest of the options. Otoh, that would have given us a huge hit in '18 and '20 so maybe they're right this time. I remain skeptical.

You think we got it right already? I know we failed in the past only hitting on a couple LT's. I have more faith in this front office though.

If you all recall, one of the things that made Randall Cunningham so great was his flexibility, athleticism and escapability because of his frame, quickness. Remember the famous shot he took from Carl Banks and he stayed on his feet to throw a TD on MNF? I see Randall as a good comp for Daniels.

Also, if you look at Ben Roethlisberger's injury chart he's had as many as any QB in league history, possibly because of his big frame and willingness to take hits.

Randall/light was who I was thinking too, body wise.  But I do not see the same escape ability maybe a little faster, good in the open field but not in tight quarters. Not nearly as tuff.  Also Ben won S.B.'s Randall did not. Daniels is not going to stay in the pocket and take the hit, is my thinking.

RG3 could read a defense. Ever. This other guy can. He really doesn’t have to run. He does and is gonna kill teams with it, but he doesn’t have to. Running WAS griffins game and he was determined to do it. Until he couldn’t.

Edit - Not. RG3 could not. Lol

And the top media all keep saying, he can make all the throws, before the draft, only they keep showing the same throw.
