I've been saying Juwann James for weeks. Don't sleep on him. Athletic for his size but has power too. I was hoping he would last until the third, but watch his sky rocket. You heard it here first! Well maybe not first.. but still lol

Sure let him just skyrocket. I'm still not taking him at 34 based on my film evaluation. He's a 3rd rounder to me

See above...

Interesting.

Seantrel and Trent Williams on the left side...is that even legal? Two guys above 325 who can run.

How about this: Trent Williams - Cyril Richardson - Monty -Seantrel Henderson - Branden Albert

Without joking, I like your picks only the safety position is just  . I rather spend the money you used on Mack for a vet safety.

sljaofjesus ...

I have seen SeanTrel Henderson going in almost every mock draft in the 4th and often times the 5th round. I haven't read anywhere about him switching to OG but if he can make that transition, I'd be down for that in the 4th or 5th ... just not the 3rd.

I also don't think we will have Carriker and possibly sans Bowen too. Carriker just can't be kept around at his rate ... cutting him frees up $3.3 million. Cutting Bowen saves $1.9 million. I just think one if not both are gone regardless.

Also agree with wilco on Mack v. a FS. I'd rather shore up the secondary before going OC when we have Monty under contract and Licthensteiger, LeReibus and Gettis (AND WELDON) who could also play the position. I'm leaning more toward upgrading RT/RG this off-season and possibly LG through the draft ... but I think we have enough options at OC. I also think Monty was beat up this year because he was constantly making up for Chester/Licht deficiencies.

Seantrel needs work to make sure he stays on his feet a bit more, driving through blocks rather than overstretching and losing balance. Gets some shift when he manages it though! Cut blocks are not a strength (that's a kind definition :P), might  be less of a problem in Jay's offense rather than the Shanny's. Solid citizen on pass prot. though and that size, athleticism combo looks eminently coachable.

Some talk of 'off-field issues' for him too, anyone got any more info on that?

This is my revised draft hopefuls in order of position of importance and who is on the board in later rounds.

In the later rounds I will list in order from most desirable to least depending on who is on the board at that time.

Also I think we should use all the draft picks we have as they are already.

Maximize what we do in the FA with C Alex Mack being our priority, then FS, CB, ILB

rnd 2 - WR Jordan Mattews or Allen Robinson

rnd 3 - OT James Hurst or JaWuan James

rnd 4 - ILB Yarwin Smallwood or Max Bullough or De De Lattimore

rnd 5 - NT Ryan Carrethers or WR Brandon Coleman or Vinnie Sunseri or CB Pierre Desir or Loucheiz Purifoy

rnd 6 - P Pat O Donnel or WR Cody Latimor or DE Josh Mauro or DE Ed Stinson

rnd 7 - OG Kadeem Edwards or TE Rob Blanchflower or ILB Preston Brown

Now is that in relation to who it has teams taking ... or where they have guys slotted?

I know their simulator is based off of needs ... which takes into account free agents, etc. That's probably why it has us going FS/CB/WR ... since we technically don't have any free agents along the OL or holes to fill. They have OG rated as a 9 for us.

That said, I did think the Walter mock was pretty spot on for where it has a lot of these guys slotted. I also liked the fact they had us going DE/ILB with our first two picks.

Does the players available include people drafted ahead of our spot? You know how the draft goes, this early in the draft process I would consider players taken 2-3 spots ahead of where we pick as 'possibles' also...

But, not enough OL for my liking from Walters/Draftek

I did not include players taken above pick 34 ... those are all players after our pick in round 2. But for the rest of the draft, the guys listed at the end of the players list in the previous round are guys that were slotted toward the end of that round, so you could justify them falling into the next round.

For example, Walter Football had Richardson, Jones, Joyner in the last 5 picks of the 2nd round (kinda surprised me on Richardson) ... so you could justify them being there or falling to us in the 3rd ... although I can't see how Joyner or Richardson falls like that.

I can see joyner falling. He's a small guy and would probably have huge issues covering tight ends as a safety. He may be able to play corner, but against some of the tall guys? No chance against them. He made some plays in college, but he's a notch below the honeybadger in instincts and playmaking, and he's smaller. He may be a solid nickelback, but I don't think he can play safety or outside corner in the pros.

You just never know especially this early for example Walters has Tuitt going to us at 34 Draftek him going to the Steelers at 46.

That's 12 spots of wiggle room.

This early in mocks players mocked ahead a few spots ahead of a pick could very well be available at the pick.

I hope we trade down in the second at this point. Maybe pick up a late 3rd or early 4th rounder in the exchange. We really need bodies. And teams are built on rounds 2-4

Eh. I still think we get a RT and RG in free agency. I would like to use one of those picks on an OL though whether it's a 6th limemen/backup OT to groom or a LG.

Brandon Flowers and Josh Wilson are pretty small.

Now I´m writing it, both pretty much had a so-so season. Not very good. Maby it is indeed there size. WR´s and TE´s are getting bigger and bigger.

I do have a soft spot for guys who are to small, to big...or whatever. London Fletcher, Russel Wilson does are football players who show that it isn´t about measurables. It´s about football IQ, hearth and work-ettic.

I wouldn´t mind grabbing him, but I rather have a different one. Wouldn´t take Bradley Roby, he looks like a St. Louis Rams guy. Don´t like him as a persone. Jason Verrett, Kyle Fuller and Marcus Roberson would be my target guys in the second round.

I think a Free Agency plan should be formed somewhat independently from looking at the draft. I don't think draft plans should guide FA directly. Signing a RG and possibly a RT in FA shouldn't preclude the team from seeking to draft starting caliber OL nor should planning/hoping to draft OL preclude signing a FA OL. Given a choice I always think draft is the best way to address any position for the long term but especially OL. FA for me is to plug leaks or to get the team over the edge not for building. I would only commit a long term contract for the 'perfect fit' FA OL because imho they just aren't worth the money compared to drafting.

Bryant is by far better than either. Benjamin just isnt that good and neither is Coleman. Neither show much after the catch ability and in Benjamins case struggles even making the catch.

I get it DG ... but I don't get it haha ... If you sign Collins as a FA to $6m a year ... that's Top 5 RT money. That's a big commitment. To turn around and then spend a 2nd on an OT is just silly. What would your argument be? Grooming him? Well even if Collins signs a 3 year deal ... you're going to let a 2nd round RT sit on the bench? Okay, so maybe one of our OTs gets hurt ... still, that's a luxury pick ...

Now if you go get someone on a 1-year deal to play RT while you groom a 2nd or 3rd rounder, I totally get that. But a 2nd round OT is expected to come in and start right away. Heck, you can get that from 3rd and 4th round OTs some drafts. So I just don't see the sense in signing a premiere RT then drafting another with such a valuable pick!

Doubling up on OT AND signing Collins? Not good. We have so many needs we should either trade down or just take the BPA. Certainly cant be taking a RB or QB. Jean Baptiste is a HUGE reach and is a really really bad fit at safety. He doesnt like playing the run and lacks speed. Wont run faster than a 4.55.. will be there in the 5th.

3rd: Yawin Smallwood, ILB UConn - for Cousins

4th: Seantrel Henderson, OT/OG Miami (FL)

5th: Justin Ellis, NT La. Tech

5th: Aaron Lynch, OLB USF - for Cousins
6th: Colt Lyerla, TE Cokeland (lol)

7th: Jordan Lynch, QB NIU

While I agree FA and Draft should be planned separate they do need to go hand in hand. FA will dictate draft. And unfortunately, we aren't in a position to solely rely on the draft right now. We have a new regime, need new players, and have money. So with the above draft, I would expect us to have gotten:

RT Anthony Collins ($5m/yr)

RG: Geoff Schwartz ($3m/yr)

CB Brandon Ghee ($4m/yr)

FS Malcolm Jenkins ($5m/yr)

WR Julian Edelman ($4m/yr)

-$21m

... and bring back:

CB DeAngelo Hall ($3m/yr)

CB EJ Biggers ($800k/yr)

OLB Brian Orakpo ($8m/yr)

ILB Perry Riley ($3m/yr)

DE Chris Baker ($2m/yr)

SS Reed Doughty ($1m/yr)

-$18M

Starting with $46 million in "real cap" you still have $7m for signing picks, etc.

Signing Collins wouldn't be my plan A
You saw my plan A in the other thread

Collins numbers don't even work in my scenario, just threw him in there to see what it would look like

its just one of many scenarios i could envision

And If the 2nd/3rd OT pans out I could just cut Collins in 2015

Doubling up on OT AND signing Collins? Not good. We have so many needs we should either trade down or just take the BPA. Certainly cant be taking a RB or QB. Jean Baptiste is a HUGE reach and is a really really bad fit at safety. He doesnt like playing the run and lacks speed. Wont run faster than a 4.55.. will be there in the 5th.

I would always take best player available.

I, like many teams, am an advocate of drafting a RB and QB every draft.

And we still need a return guy and Thomas fits that.

Oh, you already have a handle on who will be reach and who won't and exactly where they'll go? Great, I'm impressed.

Maybe he's rated lower by some sites but my goto site, nfldraftscout, rates him as a 4th rounder.

Just a friendly reminder, as we uncover new guys to take our fancy away from the ones we identified early on, Jeremiah Attaochu, at times, was nearly amazing as a fairly stand alone, single draftable player, from GT. Meaning, he wasn't surrounded by a bunch of early draft picks or mega depth like you get at FSU or Bama or other juggernauts. He made individual efforts by himself time and again.

So, Attachou, the size is a little bit of an issue for me. I mean he's going to be on the low end of the spectrum, in the Matthews mold of OLBs. At times I ponder a position switch for him, to Stack LB. But, that's obviously not his wheel house. And I wonder if he wouldn't just look lost like Burris has when he was forced into a Stack role.

Aside from all that, JA had those moments when rushing the QB, where you just went, wow.

He seems like a guy who would fit the role of a specialist, situational guy (at the very least), that, (God I hate saying their names), seattle has used with their "nascar crew" unit.

He may even have starter upside that grows from the early situational role. He's just one of those guys that I've been watching for what seems like forever and one of those guys that you can loose track of or forget about.

My point, don't forget Jeremiah Attaochu.

I'm still cycling through these 'Player vs. school' videos on Youtube, but so far I'm loving DE Stephon Tuitt with the #34 pick, and ILB Shayne Skov with #66.

I wasn't impressed by the tapes on either of them.

Ok. How old are you... Really.

I mean I knew my **** at 15 but this man is in here rattling off stats/names like Mel Kiper's son or something. Back in my day (10 years ago) it was NFL Matchup, NFL Films, Madden/NCAA Fooball, and I called it a day.
