  1. Very happy for Scary Terry that he got his 1000-yard season! Dreadful ending otherwise. But the real takeaway at this point is that we'll have a high draft pick. It's only now that the Snyder era is finally over.
  2. Looks like EB's offense is actually fine, as are our offensive skill position players. We clearly need upgrades along the OL, but Howell is really slowing down. He was visibly getting better throughout much of the season, but he's having a hard time now. There's still cause for optimism with him, and this is not to say that Brisette is the answer, but I'm more inclined to draft a QB now than I was a few weeks ago.
  3. The D has improved since JDR's departure; we spotted them some points and only really yielded 13. We do have some good pieces and that side of the ball. We also have good pieces on O; the big question is QB. I don't know if the answer is on the roster.
  4. I couldn't help noticing that the 1st and 2nd down defense was better than where it had been since JDR's departure. It does show that they've redone some things over the past 2 games. Now, the 3rd down D is still terrible, and the relative improvement on 1st-2nd down doesn't mean that RR should be retained. But it should factor into the postmortem.
  5. Howell bails a bit too early at times; I'd rather he stand in there for a moment longer and deliver an on-script throw from the pocket more frequently rather than start scrambling, which has often happened right at moments when one of his targets actually came open on-script. He's also a hair slow on his reads at times. I hope to god that he can improve upon those things between now and the end of the season so that we'll have a better idea of what to do come draft time. That said, those things would all be easier for him if he had a better OL in front of him. If the FO has doubts about what to do, I say err on the side of spending our draft capital on OL rather than QB.
  6. Whoa whoa whoa all I'm saying is that he isn't a face-value franchise QB yet. Of course we need upgrades along the OL.
  7. The remainder of this season is all about evaluating Howell and whether or not we should proceed as if he's the long-term guy. I continue to see improvement but I also continue to see flaws. Hope he can fix more of them between now and the end of the season.
  8. A late(r)-season turnaround by the D isn't coming the way it did during the previous 3 years of Rivera; the D is now a joke, as are our chances of making the playoffs. That being the case, the remainder of this season will be about Howell to me. He continues to do a lot right, and I liked the improvement he showed in hitting his outlets when they were there. But there's still something missing. He keeps on resorting to escaping to his right (which has worked out at times, but not always), and he still misses open guys at times: there was a play when McLaurin was wide open in the middle of the field for what would've been a 1st down, but Howell didn't see him.
  9. There were a bunch of 1st and 2nd down plays against the NYG when a back or TE was wide open underneath for what would've set up a manageable down and distance (if not pick up a 1st), but Howell didn't see them. He has made a lot of progress, and he isn't getting much help from his OL, but Howell still has some work to do. I think people are being too hard on the WRs; I'm betting that more opportunities for them will open up once Howell becomes more consistent about hitting his outlet when it's open.
  10. I'm against firing anyone mid-season. I don't want a turnaround under an interim coach; if we're going to fail the rest of the way, I'd rather just leave the current staff in place and continue sucking under them. There's no upside to firing anyone now; just wait until the end of the season, and let our draft position continue to improve as the losses pile up.
  11. I can't believe that we committed so many turnovers. We also settled for FGs while they (of all teams) scored TDs. Leave it to Washington to cartoonishly beat themselves and wind up losing to a crap opponent. Yet another game when we outgain our opponent by around 100 yards and lose anyway. I hadn't thrown in the towel regarding making the playoffs yet, but now I have. During Rivera's tenure here, his defenses have been shaky early on but came on strong in the later portion of the season. My gut is telling me that no such thing will happen this year. If the D doesn't come alive and if we fall short of the playoffs (both of which look likely IMO), it'll be time to fire Ron.
  12. There actually were some plays when the receivers were open only for the pass pro to not hold up quite long enough. There were also some other plays when the pass pro did hold up, and when a receiver actually did get open, only for Howell to not see him (particularly in the middle of the field). I am VERY optimistic about Howell, but he does still have some work to do; he was actually a bit too quick to bail and/or come off a read at times. We do need to upgrade the OL so as to give both Howell and his pass catchers a better shot. Hopefully Howell can continue to improve throughout the remainer of the season.
  13. I can't believe they actually ejected Forbes over that. After the promise he showed last week, I'm wondering how today's game would've looked had he been allowed to continue playing for the entire game. Howell continues to show promise, but he also needs to keep working. Despite the hefty volume and yardage, there are still visibly a number of things missing. We may have just squandered our chance for a playoff push, regretfully.
  14. He's trending upward, but his handoffs are very lethargic. I wish he'd put the ball in the RBs hands a little faster.
  15. Disappointed that this is how it turned out after 2020, but I'm inclined to agree with these trades. Our DTs are better than our DEs, and the backups have looked pretty good when they've played.
  16. Ugh...the D finally came alive only for the O to lay too much of an egg in the first half to be able to overcome in the 2nd half. Howell's throwaways need to actually go out of bounds. We can't let them block our kicks like that. Dotson HAS to make that catch. I think a turnaround is still possible; don't fire anyone yet. But it's still very disheartening to blow another winnable game.
  17. Howell seems to be improving every week but he still has work to do. Disappointing that sacks keep happening like this. In the short term, though, the D is much more disappointing. It's embarrassing that we have DL like ours and still give up 3rd & longs
  18. Don't forget about Kyle Allen. He quietly threw for over 3,300 yards in 13 games last year in Carolina. He also threw a bunch of INTs and fumbled a lot, but those did not appear to be issues this year anymore. This coming camp may be a battle between Heinicke and Allen. It may end up being Allen who wins.
  19. First the Caps validate their era with a title last year, and now the Nats follow suit this year! Even the Mystics won the title earlier this year! Congrats to DC sports fans! Now if only one of the DC teams I actually care about would win something, I will be VERY happy!!
  20. On paper our moves this offseason look good! Howard is the interior defensive, rebounding and Wall lob target presence we need. Brooks' "funnel everything to Ibaka" defense is actually viable now.
  21. Another turd laid during the 4th quarter. D actually wasn't bad tonight, but O and rebounding sucked down the stretch.
  22. Goodness, what a meltdown. Not enough execution and movement on offense, and too many turnovers. This series is still very winnable, but what a time for a dud.
  23. Another good defensive effort. Held them under 100. Offense sucked in the 1st half, but came to play in the 2nd, the early 4th quarter lull notwithstanding. It's our series to lose if we keep playing D like this.
  24. Good defensive effort in the 2nd half. Allowed over 60 in the 1st half, only to allow under 45 in the 2nd. Less penetration and 3pters given up.
