  1. I agree with this 100%. The Lions are the most marquee team not yet to have a game announced, and they would definitely make sense as a SNF candidate. I think Lions vs. either the Bears, Texans or Rams makes a lot of sense for SNF. Rams-Lions is a playoff rematch, so that would be a great game to end the first Sunday of Week 1.
  2. That’s not the case this year according to reports. Only FOX has the doubleheader Week 1, and the main feature game as we found out yesterday is Cowboys-Browns. We’re most likely playing at 1PM either on FOX or CBS or we’re the lesser distributed and viewed 4:25 game on FOX against the Cardinals.
  3. I tend to agree with this I know that the Cowboys, Chiefs, Ravens, Jets and 49ers are already out of SNF for week 1, but Commanders-Giants is NOT a good game for primetime. The Lions, Bears, Bengals and Chargers are still available to schedule for SNF. Both Washington & NY are NOT more attractive options than those teams, so I really doubt that the NFL would schedule that game for primetime when they have other better quality teams still free to schedule.
  4. Dallas-Cleveland is NOT a SNF game. It's the 4:25PM FOX game. Tom Brady's first game as an announcer for FOX will be Cowboys @ Browns. Week 1 SNF has not been revealed yet.
  5. There is no TNF Week 1, since the 1st Thursday game is always the game where the champions raise the banner and it's on NBC. I doubt we play the Bears Week 1, because that's a recipe for TONS of Bears fans to take over the stadium. If we open at home, it'll be against an opponent like Carolina or Atlanta. The league doesn't want this team at home against a team that has a large fanbase, because that would be a bad look for an already struggling team.
  6. I forgot about Tampa. That's a game that would be buried at the 1PM slot or as the 2nd backup to the Dallas-Cleveland 4:25PM game. Tampa Week 1 is interesting, but I hope it's a 4PM start, early September Tampa weather is brutal with the heat and humidity. Arizona & Washington are two irrelevant teams at the moment. The NFL would be doing us a solid by starting us off with an opponent that we have a pretty good chance to beat week 1. I could also see the NFL doing us a favor by having us open up at home against Carolina. The Falcons & Panthers games might be the only games on the home docket that will have a majority of Washington fans, so it would make sense to schedule us an opponent with a small travelling fan base like Carolina (just like they did with ARZ Week 1 last year).
  7. Monday Night Football Week 1: NY Jets @ San Francisco 49ers. So we know now that we're not playing on MNF, and that it's VERY long odds that we play on SNF Week 1 too. My guess is that we play at 1PM against Carolina at home, or at 4:25PM on the road against ARZ. We'll probably be in a matchup that has no hype or isn't anticipated by NFL fans.
  8. I bet you we open up with an opponent like Carolina or possibly on the road against the Cardinals for Week 1. Maybe the NFL does us a solid like last year, and gives us an opponent with a non existent traveling fan base if we’re at home. I remember Kevin Sheehan last year correctly predicting that the Cards would be our Week 1 home opponent for that very reason. If we’re on the road, it might make sense for us to play ARZ, since that gets our only trip out west next year out of the way early. Either way, I predict we’ll be buried in a time slot where our game won’t matter at 1PM, or is the 4:25PM undercard for the Dallas @ Cleveland game.
  9. Tom Brady’s first game as an announcer for FOX will be Week 1, Cowboys @ Browns 4:25PM. America’s Game of the Week. You can cross both the Cowboys and Browns off as potential opponents at least for Week 1.
  10. I like Craig Hoffman, he's listenable and knowledgeable (two things that are sorely missing from DC Sports radio these days). His show starts at 4PM on 980, so he's buried in a timeslot on an AM station, which isn't optimal.
  11. I thought it would be LAC-KC or HOU-KC for the opener. The NFL tends to save it's juicier matchups for later in the season. I bet CBS isn't pleased that they lost their most attractive game on the slate to NBC. I can definitely see KC-SF now being on CBS as a consolation prize.
  12. I think it's because NBC has the Olympics this summer, and they now have a fantastic AFC Championship rematch that they can promote throughout the Olympics to set the table for early September. Lamar Vs. Pat Mahomes is the juiciest game on the docket for the upcoming season (save for the SB rematch when KC goes to SF). You can promote the hell out of that game all summer long while people tune into the Olympics.
  13. Yes. Not being #1 is actually not that bad. This is shaping up to be one of the worst drafts in recent memory talent wise, so being pick 2 isn’t terrible. Next years draft is much more enticing from a talent and potential star standpoint. The Wizards need to have this same season (or worse record wise) to have a chance at #1 in a much better 2025 draft.
  14. I don’t know if you’ve listened to 106.7 or 980 in the last 5 years, but I can assure you that they’re doing anything but fine. They’ve had so many ownership changes and instability with host lineups that it’s amazing that both stations are even operating at this point. Radio as a whole is a dying business, since people under the age of 40 now have Spotify, podcasts or audiobooks to listen to on their drive to work. Terrestrial radio is an archaic operation at this point, and the listeners to stations like 106.7 and 980 are over the age of 40, and probably more like 50+ if we’re keeping it real. It would probably do them good to develop a podcast type format to draw in younger listeners. There are lots of sports fans under the age of 35, who would listen to that type of radio. I have younger brothers in that 30-35 range who laugh at the fact that I still have 106.7 and 980 as preset dials on my car radio. The younger sports audience can’t stand the traditional radio format, and that goes double for stations that have horrible sports radio hosts like both stations do AND terrible callers like both stations do.
  15. I personally think that they should just nuke both stations, and start over. I’d get rid of everyone on both stations (except for Sheehan and Craig Hoffman. I would also throw money at Al Galdi to lure him back to radio. The next thing I’d do is ban fan calls from ALL shows. Treat the shows like podcasts, where the hosts have segments and then the only guests would be journalists (like Keim or Standig). I would run the station like ESPN Radio, in that I would not let any of my shows have any dumbass callers calling in to give their stupid, unhinged takes. No more callers like Ian or Sabah or anyone else.
  16. You must be a fan of that garbage. She’s utterly unlistenable and unhinged. Thank God for podcasts like Al Galdi, because this trash being representative of DC sports talk radio is why DC isn’t considered a serious sports town. Do you think that NY sports radio or Chicago sports radio would let unhinged/dumb callers like Sabah call into every radio show and basically devote an entire 3-5 minutes of their ramblings and garbage thoughts?
  17. @Riggo#44, your Chris Russell hatred is justified, and not harsh enough. He really might be the worst radio host I’ve ever heard. Example below: What an absolute clown. I’ve already said my piece about that garbage caller “Sabah”, but the racial undertones and the stirring the pot is just unlistenable. He really needs to go. DC Sports Radio as a whole has to be nuked, if this is what’s considered relevant offseason talk.
  18. Because politics is like sports, or more appropriately, like the WWE. It’s all a show, and you’re fully supporting your side (either D or R). Trump supporters will never back down from their stance or admit that they were wrong. Why would they? They hate the other side, just like they’re convinced the other side hates them, and they’re never going to give the libs the satisfaction.
  19. We laugh, but unfortunately it does make sense to have the number retirement ceremony against the Panthers or the Falcons. We want the crowd to be a majority of home fans, and those are likely the only two games where that will be the case. You can’t have that ceremony at home against the Steelers, Bears, or any other NFCE home game, because you run the risk of the crowd being an overwhelming majority of away fans, and it’s just sad and embarrassing to hold that ceremony in front of a hostile crowd.
  20. That’s not happening, ESPECIALLY if the ceremony is late in the season, and the Cowboys are competing for the NFCE, while we are out of the playoff hunt and trying to play spoiler. There would be at least 70-80% Cowboys fans in the stands if that were to occur. The perfect time to have that ceremony is early on in the season against a team like Atlanta or Carolina. The Falcons & Panthers games will probably be the only games they play at home with a majority of the crowd being home fans, so it would make sense to have a majority home crowd for that ceremony.
  21. I would definitely NOT do the Green Retirement Ceremony at a division home game nor would I do it on the dates that we play the Steelers and Browns at home. I would wait to have it for when we play an NFC South team like the Falcons or the Panthers. I would've put Cleveland on the docket, but they only come here once every 8 years, and they're a good team now, so I'm sure a ton of their fans will make the trek to Landover to see them play. The truth is that until we get good again (or move to a new stadium), the field formerly known as Fed-Ex is always going to be overrun with opposing fans of large market teams or popular team fanbases (Packers, Steelers, Cowboys, 49ers, Eagles, etc). I would hold off on doing any retirement ceremonies if one of those teams is scheduled to come to Landover.
  22. ESPN isn't going anywhere, unfortunately. They negotiated early (something that TNT did not do), and are reportedly getting the "A" package, which means that they'll air games on one weeknight, conference finals and ALL NBA Finals until the end of the new deal in 2035. No other partner has the NBA Finals in their package, but ESPN does, so we'll be dealing with Stephen A, Perk and Wilbon for more years to come unfortunately.
  23. Don't know where to put this, but there are reports that the new NBA TV deal that will begin for the 2025 season will have ESPN, Amazon, and NBC as partners, with TNT reportedly out. This is significant, because the NBA has aired games on Turner for close to 40 years now, and the fact that we could potentially be seeing Inside The NBA for a final season next year is jarring. I'm glad the NBA on NBC will be back, but it's bittersweet that it could come at the expense of the greatest sports show on TV today.
  24. The Stolen Doc Trial is federal (along with the Jan 6 case). If Trump's elected, all he has to do when appointed is shut down the investigation, pardon himself and that's that. There's nothing the judicial system can do to him if he's elected. That won't be the case for the state cases against him, but that won't matter if he' elected to office. The GA case will also face significant delays as of this morning's report, so Trump might skate by completely in time for the election.
  25. The impeachment conviction was NEVER going to happen. The GOP would never make it impossible for Trump to run again. The GOP is the GOP, so we already know what they're about and what they stand for. I specifically blame Garland for sitting on his hands for 2 years, and making it next to impossible to get a fair trial on Trump with conviction before 2024. Anyone that knows Trump knows that he likes to delay as much as humanly possible. The DOJ should know by now how he operates, and been better prepared. We've had a lifetime of evidence that states that he drags and delays everything. The moment Garland was sworn in in 2021, he should've had a goal to get an investigation going with a target date of indictment by 2022. The whole point is to not let Trump get to the Repub Primaries by Fall of 2023 as a legitimate candidate being the gigantic national security threat that he is. The DOJ was too late with the trigger, and we all could be paying the cost of that with a possible Trump win in November.
