Art
Once again, the signing of Larry Moore proves without a shadow of a doubt that NO ONE IN THE WORLD has any clue what's going on at Redskin Park except the people making the decisions. We've seen names all over the map. Some of you got very upset about no linemen being mentioned. The, BOOM, Moore is on the team. Guys, aside from pure speculation, which we do here as well, the media has no special insight to this team right now because it's a different organization and no one knows where to get good insider info from.

Moore, to me, is an ok signing. He certainly has experience enough to at least be capable for what we lost in Raymer and he's more versatile, so, this appears to be a smart football move if not an exciting one. Skins57
I agree, I think the best thing to do is sit back and enjoy the ride on the Spurrier express this offseason. I still have my doubts about Vinny but I am willing to give him another chance
RebelYell
Yep.

My guess is that we'll be signing one of Brunell Bledsoe or Chandler as our QB soon.

It definitely won't be Matthews and even Blake has been linked with us too much to be really likely.

half-kidding - I think...

RebelYell
inmate running the asylum
First of all from what Ive been reading, Vinny is not calling the shots now, although he does have some input. Its Joe and SS, with Snyder breaking any ties on personnel moves.

The Larry Moore signing is a good move, especially being you are getting a versatile starter for 3 years for only $3 Mil. Is he an all-pro? No. But he is a very capable starter, who at 27 has been durable and may have more upside. A scouting report also indicated that when Moore came out of college, he bench pressed 420 lbs. And lets not forget that new Redskin coach, George Catavolos, who came over from the Colts, would undoubtedly have given Joe Mendes some input on Larry Moore's ability.

Some more research:
In 1999 with Moore starting at center for 16 games, the Colt offensive line accomplished a noteworthy feat. Edgerrin James won the rushing title and they led the league in fewest number of sacks surrendered (14). I didnt have time to look up how many passes Peyton Manning attempted that year, but i know he did pass for over 4,000 yards. So with Moore making the OL calls and adjustments, it would indicate that he also has some smarts. That feat had not been accomplished since the 1983 Rams. So I personally am very pleased with the signing, especially when you compare Moore's $1 Mil a year deal, to Cory Raymer's $2.5 Mil a year deal (3Mil vs 10Mil). And Moore is 3 years younger.

So far i like what Joe Mendes has accomplished. The key to success as New England showed last year is patience and discipline. Some of these teams that are in a hurry to throw money around like we did in 1999, are going to get burned. Case in point: Giving Tim Dwight a #3 receiver a wheelbarrow full of money, and he caught what, 25 passes last year?

[ March 14, 2002, 06:36 AM: Message edited by: inmate running the asylum ]
Mickalino
Well....at least one of us saw this coming. Here was my prediction in mid-January...

http://www.extremeskins.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=1;t=005785#000003
inmate running the asylum
Damn Mick you were right on about that prediction. I think I'll follow you from now on, instead of that pastor named Mardi.

Art
Mick,

Now that's the funniest thing you've ever posted. Mickalino
Well, I just hope that I have not invented a "new" type of prank, that becomes contagious around here
Novato
I agree with you'all, this is a very good signing, Moore is a solid and very smart center who can also play guard in case Brandt is better. I would dare to rate him on the same level as Raymer.
bulldog
another important thing is Moore isn't walking around on a rebuilt knee like Raymer.

those kinds of severe injuries usually have a cumulative effect as you approach 30 in the NFL.

the last thing we needed was to re-sign Raymer for bigger dollars than we planned and then see him suffer from lingering knee problems down the road. Henry
How shrewd of you Mick.

Remind me to check this thread again in August to find out who our starting QB will be.
NavyDave
Indy had bigger and younger guys off their practice squad and from the draft they felt can contribute just as much if not more at a cheaper rate.
Art
Indy didn't let him go. He was an unrestricted free agent and Indy had people they felt could do the job for a little less.
