SkinsNorth
I don't know about Ogunleye, how will he respond being the prime pass rusher on his team. Taylor takes a lot of attention away from him. If we picked up an additional 1st rounder we could select a DL like Udeze or Wilfork at #5, then parlay the other 1st intop additional picks by trading down. GURU
SkinsNorth, by your logic, you would now even LESS how Udeze or Wilfork would respond to being the prime pass rusher on his team, since they are rookies. Ogunleye simply looks like a player on the rise. Can he still regress? Sure. But his projection is easier to make than any rookie.

Chrisbob74
Trading picks from next years draft is risky, remember how we got a first rounder off San Diego a few years back, they got our 2nd rounder that year and gave us a 1st the following year, you have to overpay to compensate for the time elapsed! As for this years draft, trade down with Houston as someone said and add a 2nd round pick.

fish
Then we execute the Zen-like plan. Although, I'm not so sure we REALLY need to upgrade the S position.
unsonny
rather trade down and get more picks!!!!
DraftNik
Typically picks in the following year are worth a pick in the subsequent round in the current year. '05 1st rounder = '04 2nd rounder etc.
NavyDave
I can live with grabbing a ogunleye for next years 1st, 4th and this years 5th while still grabbing S Taylor
inmate running the asylum
Originally posted by jbooma You have no clue about the draft do you, and with your name having draft in it is pretty funny. How do you think the Ravens were able to get their QB last year in the first round They traded their number one this year for a number one last year. A lot of teams do this when the feel they have to have a certain player this year and do not worry about the following year. Jbooma, sorry to say ole buddy, that Draftnik DOES have a clue about the draft. In the 2003 draft Baltimore had a 2nd round pick (41st) and traded that 2nd rounder to New England for their 1st round pick (19th), to move up 22 spots into the 1st round. But Baltimore also had to give up their 1st round pick in 2004. So that amounts to a 1st and 2nd for a 1st. If the Skins traded their 1st round pick in 2005, the best they could do would be to get a 2nd round pick this year. If you trade next year's 2nd round pick, you would get a 3rd round pick this year and so forth. You generally sacrifice one round. Bobby Bearthard used to trade his 1st round pick the following year for current 2nd round picks all the time, but when he became GM with San Diego he frequently got burned doing this. I prefer holding onto the 1st round picks for next year for a lot of reasons.
unsonny
he'll trade it, and draft the cream of the crop, in the later rounds have faith!!
inmate running the asylum
I would be more in favor of trading our 1st round pick in 2005 for an established player, rather than for a 2nd round pick this year to be used on an unproven draftee. For example trade our 1st round pick in 2005 for say DE John Abraham of the Jets, who they are reportedly shopping.
Bugs'
I still like Taylor at #5. I still think there will be more FA signings before all is said and done. Remember, a month ago we were wondering what FA running back we would sign So alot can change...but its fun speculating isn't it:)
