Florida man arrested after allegedly making death threats against Biden

A Florida man was arrested Monday and charged with making threats against President Biden and other federal officials, according to the Justice Department.

Jason Alday, 39, allegedly made threats against Mr. Biden on June 25 from a mental health facility in Tallahassee, Florida, and in a series of social media posts in late June and July, after he was released from a different hospital. He was ordered detained pending trial, according to the Justice Department.

Court filings state that the Secret Service received a call from an intake coordinator at the mental health facility about Alday, who told an agent that during the intake process, he stated, "I don't like President Biden. I want to kill him, slit his throat."

The coordinator said Alday had been transported to another hospital in Tallahassee for medical attention that was not related to mental health concerns, according to an affidavit filed with the federal district court in North Florida.

A Secret Service agent, accompanied by deputies with the Gadsden County Sheriff's Office, interviewed Alday on July 1 at his parents house. He said he couldn't recall making statements about Mr. Biden when he was at the mental health facility, according to the court filing. He also denied making the threatening remark about the president but acknowledged that he did not like Mr. Biden, the affidavit from a Secret Service agent stated.

On July 11, the Secret Service found several posts by an unidentified user to the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, targeting Mr. Biden, the court filing states. One post from July 11 read, "I'll kill joe biden today!!" and another, shared on June 30, stated, "sources: Joe biden's health is declining rapidly. Not doing too good at all. Should I finish him off?"

Three other social media posts from July called the Secret Service agent who interviewed Alday a racial slur and threatened him, according to the affidavit. The Secret Service identified the account as one that was affiliated with Alday.

He was charged with three counts: making threats against the president, sending a threatening communication and making threats against a federal official.

Self-professed 'Wolf of Airbnb' sentenced to over 4 years in prison for defrauding landlords

A Florida man who boasted that he was the “Wolf of Airbnb” was sentenced Monday to over four years in prison for defrauding New York City landlords and a federal pandemic-relief government program.

Konrad Bicher, 32, of Hialeah, Florida, was sentenced in Manhattan federal court by Judge Lorna G. Schofield.

The prison term of four years and three months came after Bicher pleaded guilty a year ago to a wire fraud charge. He was also ordered to forfeit $1.7 million and pay $2.2 million in restitution. He declined to speak at the sentencing.

Prosecutors said Bicher operated at least 18 Manhattan apartments as “mini-hotels” while using the pandemic as an excuse not to pay landlords more than $1 million in rent from 2019 to April 2022. They said he also got government-guaranteed loans through a program meant to provide relief to small businesses during the COVID-19 pandemic.

In a sentencing submission, Bicher's attorney argued for leniency, blaming landlords for some of the Manhattan apartment troubles.

In a submission by prosecutors, the government said Bicher fought lawsuits from landlords by falsely claiming he was suffering from coronavirus-related hardships and by lying about his residency and use of the units to benefit from the refuge of tenant protections offered in New York City.

Prosecutors said he was living in Florida during the fraud and traveling for leisure.

They said Bicher bragged to the media and friends that he was the “Wolf of Airbnb” and said the expression was meant to refer to the “Wolf of Wall Street,” the title of a memoir by former stockbroker Jordan Belfort, who made a fortune on penny stocks before blowing much of it on a wild and lavish lifestyle and going to prison for financial crimes.

Police: Screw Job Lands Mother Behind Bars

“Have you ever been screwed in the ass?”

That is what a 40-year-old woman allegedly asked her daughter before using an electric screwdriver to direct a screw into the 12-year-old victim’s rear end, according to police.

As detailed in an arrest affidavit, Jaclyn Goszczynski “and three children were hanging picture frames” in a Florida residence when the defendant “used electric screw gun and screwed a nail into the victim’s left side buttocks.”

Questioned by police about the incident, Goszczynski reportedly said that when the girl walked past her, she asked “the victim who is her twelve year old” about getting “screwed in the ass.”

Goszczynski, cops charge, placed the screw gun on the girl’s “left buttock cheek and pressed down on the trigger, driving the screw into her buttocks.” The screw--which left a visible mark--was stuck in the girl’s body “until she took it out.”

Visit Florida CEO addresses removal of LGBTQ pages on tourism website

The head of the state-funded tourism agency spoke for the first time about a controversial decision to remove a webpage on LGBTQ travel from the Visit Florida website. Visit Florida President and CEO Dana Young was in Tampa for a tourism conference.

“Visit Florida is a taxpayer-funded organization,” Young said to the Visit Florida Board of Directors. “And as such, Visit Florida, our marketing strategy and our materials, our content must align with the state. Florida has always been and will continue to be a very, very welcoming state."

"That is evidenced by the incredible tourism numbers that we presented last week and at this board meeting and Visit Florida is committed to continue that message of being welcome to everyone forward as we move through the next year and through the next many years in our partnership with the state of Florida," she continued.

But she didn't want to dive deeper into why the state removed a webpage dedicated to LGBTQ travel.

Florida deputy's gun sold for $40 after he left it in gas station bathroom

A Seminole County deputy's gun was taken from a RaceTrac restroom in Oviedo after he left it there while using the facilities.

The deputy stopped at the convenience store to use the restroom and entered the accessible stall.

He took off his gun belt and put it over the railing while he was on his cellphone, documents show.

When he finished, he put his gun belt back on, left the store to respond to a call, and eventually noticed his gun was missing.

The missing firearm was a Sig Sauer P320.

Damari Dennis and Chance Byron found the gun in the restroom, according to the Seminole County Sheriff's Office.

At some point, the gun was "sticking out of the toilet paper roll," according to documents.

Dennis, a convicted felon, said he "didn't want to touch it because he was on probation."

Surveillance video shows Byron leaving the store "with a noticeable bulge showing on the right side of his waist."

Detectives say the two men sold the gun for "$40 via a CashApp."

https://www.cbsnews.com/news/florida-python-challenge-winner-ronald-kiger-20-burmese-pythons/

It's official, the Florida Python Challenge this year has a winner.

The $10,000 grand prize went to Ronald Kiger, who removed 20 Burmese pythons from the Florida Everglades during the 10-day hunt, which was meant to bring awareness to the threat that these pythons pose to the ecosystem. Last year, he was the direct runner-up to the grand prize winner.

Representatives from Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission announced Kiger's win in a Tuesday morning meeting in Duck Key. This year, more than 800 people from 33 states and Canada participated in the challenge, and hunters removed 195 Burmese pythons from the wild.

The rest of the prize money was divided amongst competitors in the contest's three categories: novice, professional and military. Donna Kalil was one python away from a tie with Kiger. Kalil, a contractor with the South Florida Water Management District, got a $2,500 prize for catching 19 pythons in the professional category.

"I'm not afraid of that python," Kalil recently told CBS News. "I'm afraid of it getting away."
