RedskinMoo
i gots a question... when/if M. Bates comes to Washinton.. what will his # be? He is 24 right now with the Panthers...Champ is #24. so i suppose Bates would change his #? They are both Probowlers... but Champ is already here so i guess Bates would change his #. Right? Om
I'd kinda like to see him wear # 21 ...
Art
Wouldn't it be hysterical if the Redskins assigned Bates No. 21 before cutting Deion, then said, "Oh, we want to bring Deion back, but, we aren't sure where he stands, so we wanted to give out numbers players liked. Deion, if he wishes to come back, will just get another number." I'd never stop laughing. ------------------ Doom is in the box.
@DCGoldPants
My guess is that he'd just switch it to 42 since that number does fall into a RB's range and I think technically that's what he is....right? 42 sounds fine to me. ------------------ Pootie Tang whoop your ass so bad, you can write it off on your taxes! KMP
You're cruel Art. bulldog
42? Are you kidding? Only the greatest Redskins receiver of the first 60 years of the franchise and a HOFer named Charley Taylor wore that number. Bates AIN'T gettin' #42, or #44 for that matter How about #30? Isn't that the number our previous return guru wore?
@DCGoldPants
If you've noticed, only players like Riggo, Baugh and few others are having their numbers blocked. I dunno why but it just seems to be that way. ------------------ Pootie Tang whoop your ass so bad, you can write it off on your taxes!
NavyDave
Champ should be able to keep his number. #30 is ok for now but that is the number of one the best over all players of alltime in B Mitch. The longest Bates will stay here is 2 years so that isn t fair to a career skin in Champ ------------------ Dave
indyskinsfan
Numbers are retired so I thought like, Baugh, Taylor, Riggo, Mitchell, Jurgy.HTTR!!! Strawberry Letter : 23 seems more like it. 21 is fine too! Once worn by Brig Owens and Tony Peters, but neither seemed destined for the HOF, but each played in a SB in seperate years. Coincident or fate? bulldog
the Redskins only retired jersey is #33 for Baugh. that said, I don't know of any NFL teams that use the numbers of players that team has in the Hall of Fame. NO receivers have worn #42 since Taylor retired in 1977. No receivers have worn #81 since Monk left the team in 1994. I don't expect that to change. If it does, shame on Snyder and Schottenheimer. You won't see the Cowboys give another running back #22 for Emmitt or #8 for Troy. Ditto the Giants for #56 and the 49ers for #16. There are 99 usable numbers. We got rid of #22 (Murrell), #23 (Stevens), #20 (Hicks), #86 (Fryar), #88 (Jenkins).... Give Bates one of those numbers.
Die Hard
Art - Why even go through the bother of playing mind games? Marty should quit playing games and show the integrity we've all heard about. REPORTER: Is Deion Sanders going to play for the Washington Redskins this year? Marty - "No. The feeling is mutual." OR Marty - "Yes. We already sewn his new game jersey." - as Marty unveils a brand new shiny home jersey with Deion's name on the back and the number DOUBLE ZERO. Die Hard - "Hey Mr. Sanders... that ain't egg on your face!" ------------------
@DCGoldPants
Bulldog, I agree that they shouldn't give HOF numbers away, it just wouldn't suprise me. How about this though, Dallas gave Irvins number to that TE they picked up last year. Talk about short memory eh? ------------------ Pootie Tang whoop your ass so bad, you can write it off on your taxes!
