Raiders now view San Antonio as a viable NFL market, Texas official says

A former San Antonio mayor insists that Oakland Raiders owner Mark Davis and the Texas city have reached a far more serious stage in talks about potentially moving the NFL team.

The latest round of talks are far more developed than past dealings with major league sports franchises when San Antonio has been used as a pawn by pro sports teams seeking better stadium deals back home, former Mayor Henry Cisneros said.

Well ol' Rog has told the Raiders,(and others),that L.A. is out of the question for a move in 2015 so this give the Raiders another option,(read: possible leverage).

The NFL doesn't want the Raiders in LA.

The NFL really wants no team in L.A. until someone ponies up and builds a stadium. That isn't happening with government money and private entities that might do it will want a share of the team.  So, L.A. waits.

Also, the NFL wants all possible options exhausted in St. Louis and San Diego first.

San Antonio would be a good place for the Raiders.

Having grown up in San Antonio, I just can't see the town being able to support the Raiders.    It's really a Cowboy and Oilers/Texans town.

Back during the days of the USFL, San Antonio had a team called the Gunslingers.   They played in Alamo Stadium which had a seating capacity of roughly 23,000 and had trouble filling it.   ( It was fairly easy to get comped tickets)

Before that, San Antonio inherited the Florida Blazers for the final year of the World Football League back in the mid 70's.   Neither of these teams were able to fill the small Alamo Stadium.
