Forehead
Hey all, I'm blatantly stealing this from a college football board I frequent, minus the nifty formatting they use, but I'm a stathead and love reading this sort of stuff, so here goes. Just so you know, rankings are from ESPN.com statistics, with an occasional assist for clarity from footballdb. Redskins Rushing YPG = 164.6 (2) vs. Philly Rush Defense YPG = 112.7 (15) = Advantage Skins Redskins Passing YPG = 217.2 (24) vs. Philly Pass Defense YPG = 225.3 (12) = Edge Philly Redskins Total YPG = 381.8 (7) vs. Philly Total Defense YPG = 338 (12) = Push Redskins Scoring PPG = 25.1 (11) vs. Philly Defense PPG = 24.6 (22) = Edge Skins Philly Rushing YPG = 126.2 (10) vs. Redskins Rush Defense YPG = 96.2 (8) = Push Philly Passing YPG = 247.1 (14) vs. Redskins Pass Defense YPG = 301.7 (30) = Advantage Philly Philly Total YPG = 373.3 (8) vs. Redskins Total Defense YPG = 397.9 (28) = Major Advantage Philly Philly Scoring PPG = 17.3 (29) vs. Redskins Defense PPG = 27.6 (27) = Push Redskins Punting Average = 46.2 (13) vs. Philly Punt Return Average = 13.8 (3) = Edge Philly Philly Punting Average = 45.3 (25) vs. Redskins Punt Return Average = 6.2 (29) = Push Redskins Kickoff Return Average = 23.7 (19) vs. Philly Kickoff Return Average = 27.0 (5) = Advantage Philly * Redskins Turnover Margin = +7 (8) vs. Philly Turnover Margin = -11 (31) = Major Advantage Skins Redskins Penalties PG = 8.33 (32) vs. Philly Penalties PG = 6.88 (25) = Edge Philly Redskins Sacks = 14 (28) vs. Philly Sacks Allowed = 29 (29) = Push Philly Sacks = 14 (28) vs. Redskins Sacks Allowed = 21 (19) = Edge Skins Redskins 3rd Down Conversion % = 28.6 (31) vs. Philly 3rd Down Defense = 35.1 (8) = Major Advantage Philly Philly 3rd Down Conversion % = 38.9 (15) vs. Redskins 3rd Down Defense = 43.8 (29) = Advantage Philly Redskins 1st Downs PG = 21.6 (9) vs. Philly 1st Downs Allowed PG = 18.88 (9) = Push Philly 1st Downs PG = 22.1 (8) vs. Redskins 1st Downs Allowed PG = 22.77 (26) = Advantage Philly *Just an FYI, I compared Kickoff Return Averages rather than Kickoff Average vs. Return Average, since there are so many touchbacks. As for the designations at the end, it went like this. 1-6 ranks difference was a push, 7-12 ranks was an edge, 13-18 was an advantage, 19-24 was a major advantage, and 24+ was DOOM (a word I rather enjoy) which we had none of. Hope you enjoy.
techboy
Hope you enjoy. I did not. These statistics favored Philadelphia too much, which made me sad. Please report different statistics which favor the Redskins. Thank you in advance.
More Complete
I did not. These statistics favored Philadelphia too much, which made me sad. illone
Sad that a team as putrid as the eagles are has so many advantages. At least we have the better qb. Wow that even felt awkward. ;-)
Forehead
I mean, at least we have a clear path. Run the ball, control the clock, and protect Griffin, where our few advantages lie. Will probably have to play the safeties deep to account for their WR speed, which means a bend but don't break sort of defense. Hopefully, they continue to commit turnovers and we use that to pull it out in the end, because they're going to move the ball.
pointyfootball
Good collection of stats. Does defensive ppg include scores by the other team's ST & Defense? Because Philly has probably given up 4-5 defensive TDs and at least 1 ST TD. Few stats I think are important as well: Offensive Red Zone TD efficiency: Wash (54%) 14th, Philly (40%) 29th Edge Skins Penalties/Gm: Wash 8.3 (32nd), Philly (26th) Push
Forehead
Penalties are already in the OP. I had Philly at 25th though. They are tied in number with I believe three other teams but their penalites have resulted in more yards against, so I moved them down a spot. deejaydana
I feel like we should be able to take this game but heck, I thought we were a lock over Carolina and we know how that contest went. I'm hoping our porous and underachieving D can at least expose a rookie QB.

The Eagles turnover ratio (especially in RZ) & poor redzone performance and the Skins 3rd down performance especially on defense (but offense as well) are the reasons they're both 3-6, IMO.
