Thiebear
http://thehill.com/homenews/house/176383-dem-leader-wants-supercommittee-for-jobs With national unemployment hovering above 9 percent, a leading House Democrat is pushing to establish a "supercommittee" for creating jobs. Rep. John Larson (Conn.), chairman of the Democratic Caucus, wants to amend the recently passed debt-limit package to establish a joint select committee on job creation to operate alongside the already mandated Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction. In a "Dear Colleague" letter sent to House members earlier in the week, Larson argued that the nation's jobs crisis is only exacerbating its long-term fiscal problems and therefore demands Congress's immediate attention. "This high unemployment poses a very real short-term fiscal crisis, because it drains the federal coffers through increased government spending and reduced tax revenues," Larson wrote in the Aug. 8 letter. The president's jobs czar is doing a heck of a job -- for China President O http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/soundeconomywithjontalton/2015732625_the_presidents_jobs_czar_is_do.htmlbama continued to exhibit a pleading weakness in his prime-time speech Monday night, so it's no wonder Monday was the same day that his "jobs czar," General Electric CEO Jeffrey Immelt, chose to announce the company will be moving the headquarters of its health-care X-Ray division to China. You want compromise, Mr. President? In your face, sir, with all due respect. Immelt replaced Paul Volcker as a top economic adviser. The former Federal Reserve chief, who defeated runaway inflation in the early 1980s, was done in by his resistance to letting the big banks and Wall Street resume the business as usual that led to the financial meltdown. Mr. Obama wanted to project a more business-friendly face for his administration. The results of Immelt's public service have been to barely dent the plight of 24 million Americans who are unemployed or underemployed. I suppose we should be grateful that GE's domestic employment dropped only 1 percent last year even as net income hit $11.6 billion, topping Wall Street expectations. Would it be impolite at this point to mention that GE paid no federal income taxes in 2010? Or that GE Capital, the disastrous gift left behind by Jack Welch, was one of the biggest beneficiaries of the TARP bailout? The Export-Import Bank, funded by taxpayers, has given GE $2.5 billion in loans and loan guarantees.

DRSmith
Why bother why not just take all the letters everyone wrote looking for stimulis money onto the house floor and read them allowed and then ask for the money do another stimulis Scores of Republicans and conservative Democrats who voted against the $787 billion American Recovery and Reinvestment Act subsequently wrote letters requesting funds for projects in a massive, behind-the-scenes letter-writing and phone call campaign, documents obtained by the Center show. Those asking for money include Tea Party favorites like freshman Massachusetts Sen. Scott Brown and Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn., former presidential candidates Ron Paul and John McCain and Republican congressional leaders like Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky and Rep. Mike Pence of Indiana. Many Democratic leaders who had boasted they prevented lawmakers from inserting special spending requests in the stimulus law when it passed also engaged in the behind-the-scenes letter writing to secure funding afterwards, including Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid. http://www.iwatchnews.org/2010/10/19/2421/stimulating-hypocrisy-scores-recovery-act-opponents-sought-money-out-public-view I would add a caveat every project that gets money has to hire people who are already unemployed to offset the spending
Thiebear
Could we see how this first committee works before we replicate it? So far the liberal groups are complaining that the 2nd in command for the democrats is the chief fundraiser while holding such an important position. I agree with them. Busch1724
What's funny is we have politicians, many who never created jobs but lived off of us, are creating "job" committees. I wonder how this committee will help them to get re-elected. Back to the topic though, how can we create jobs? Government intervention hasn't helped to this point. In reality how can this happen? Tulane Skins Fan
The jobs bill is where the GOP is going to really hurt their electoral chances. Any jobs bill is going to involve some government spending, and there's not gonna be so little GOP support that Boehner is not going to even bring it to the floor. Democrats should have done this 6 months ago, but they are, as we all know, incompetent in politics.

If you read the letter Bachman, Paul et al have written to the EPA and other government departments asking for money in those letters they justify asking for the money by stating how many jobs will be created by getting money for projects in their districts. Thiebear
So you believe all the press releases to the lobbyists that say: Contribute to me, i'm a member of this new supercommittee, My 10k a plate fundraiser is tomorrow if you want access. There are many on both sides that believe that is a bad idea that will lead to immediate conflicts of interest. Your post is from a super conservative blog: Please try and use Huffington Post, NYtimes, Wash Post, Cnn, Times, the Hill, etc it helps when you don't use the screaming 6% as a link. example: The Daily Beast reports that the appointment of Democratic Washington State US Sen. Patty Murray as co-chair of the deficit-cutting congressional “supercommittee” is raising objections not just from conservatives but from some liberal allies as well. “The reason: while Murray will be one of 12 lawmakers charged with crafting $1.5 trillion in budget cuts, she also sits atop the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, which will be raising money aggressively for her party.” “We thought the choice of Senator Murray said ‘business as usual,’” Mary Boyle, the spokeswoman for Common Cause, tells The Daily Beast. “It is a message to special interests to back your truck up to Senator Murray’s office and dump your money here.”
