pointyfootball
Well written article (by an intern) from philly.com. "It’s no coincidence that three of the NFC’s top four potential big spenders come from the NFC East. The division has four megamarket monsters. All of this potentially puts the Birds in a tight position despite their wise spending. They have the second-highest operating income in the division while having the smallest market value. But wait a second. If the Cowboys have so much financial firepower, why should we be happy to see them in the playoffs, where they make more money from additional merchandising revenues and NFL flat fees? The reason is because of the restrictions in place that affect teams in the event of an uncapped year, outlined by NFL.com analyst Pat Kirwin. First, there are restrictions imposed on playoff teams like Dallas and Philadelphia in terms of how much they can spend on free agents and their negotiating access with free agents in general. There’s a lot of technical minutiae, but the most stringent of these restrictions applies to the final eight teams in the playoffs, known as the “Final 8” rule." Follow the link for much more. Excellent read. http://www.philly.com/philly/blogs/pattisonave/2010_uncapped_year.html PF
tr1
The pukes are cash strapped as it is... The Eagles have a cheap owner who won't spend more than he has to... Look for the Giants and Skins to benefit most...
Westbrook36
tr1 missed the part of the article where it said the Eagles had the 2nd highest operating income in the division. Well, actually, no he didn't.

coolbeans
If Dallas is one and done, the rule won't apply anyway because they won't be a final eight team!
Alabama Man
Good article, I had no idea about that rule restricting the final 8 teams.

pointyfootball
I'm sure we will spend the most but................. I think more importantly for the Redskins, is if they can dump some money. Portis, Betts, Randle-El, Smoot, Thomas, Fletcher(?), Cooley (trade?) & maybe even Moss. I'm assuming an uncapped year is the time to cut players owed a lot of money.
HigSkin
Say good bye to Samuels, Thomas, Wynn, Betts, Smoot and Daniels. The Skins are going to end up using this opportunity to get younger.
Lombardi's_kid_brother
I think this uncapped year is going to result in a lot of movement by players that nobody wants in the first place. So, I think it's a moot point about who can spend what. (By the way, I'm the first message board poster in history to correctly spell the word "moot." I deserve a prize, don't you think?) DCranon21
Besides the Redskins dumping some high salaries, you will see a lot of teams take the opprotunity to dump some of their biggest salaries as well. It will be an abundance of FA's available for the other teams to look at and as well as lock up some young talent they need to.
ArmchairRedskin
I thought it was a moo point. You know, like a cow's opinion. But yeah, that top 8 team rule is certainly interesting.

There may be an abundance of FA's, but they will not be FA's that anybody wants. There is a reason they are being dumped by their current teams. twist
Ok, now you're going to tell me that Laurie isn't the cheapest owner in the division? :doh:You know, only the CBA forced him to spend money...what will you do now? Seriously. A mere 2 million dollars separates the Eagles and Skins payrolls this year, but usually the Eagles spend more. The Raiders spent the most money this year, nearly 30 million more than either team, so it's often more about what you get for your money than how much you spend.
