Monkey
I'm a real geek. I watch games with pen and paper. Does anybody have any geeky habits when they watch or what?
KMP
Depends. If the Redskins are at home I might go to the game. If not I'll have a few friends over or go to a friend's house. Either way we bar-be-que it up. If the Skins are playing an away game I go to a local sports bar where I know a bartender or two. That way I can catch multiple games while the Redskins are on. In any event I get very animated watching Redskins games. No seriously, I have groupies who like to watch me watch Redskins games. ------------------
All In
I've always listened to Sonny, Sam, and Frank. I turn the TV down and the Radio Up. My brother gets annoyed sometimes. Besides wearing my Redskins' Jersey, Shorts, Hat, on occasion Soxs, and always Boxers, I'm normal. Did I mention my Redskins' Sandles?
BIGDC
Thats the same thing I do the WJFK broadcasting is much better than fox, the only time I listen to Fox is when Madden and Summerall are broadcasting. ------------------ -------------------------------------------- "It's gonna be a long, long day, baby...Don't bring that weak s--- on this side of the line again, your hear? ... Henry
Heh heh. The only ritual I go through is to wear my 10-year-old-full-of-holes Redskin T-shirt and one of my three Redskin sweatshirts on game day. Also, from September to January we have the Redskin blanket draped over the couch in the basement. My wife seems to think that Redskin games offer a perfect father-son bonding opportunity for me and my son Ben. The truth is that Ben, at the tender age of two, has not yet discovered the joy of watching football (which leads me to believe my wife is simply trying to sneak in a nap.) I have had several lengthy discussions with Ben, explaining the importance of various rivalries, historical significance of games, subtle differences in formations, schemes, blitz packages, etc. Despite my efforts, I spent much of last season trying to keep my him from sticking various insidious childrens videos into the VCR during the games (Yes, he knows how to work the VCR already. He's a genius.) Ben often goes with 'Bear in the Big Blue House,' whereas I prefer the throwback 'Schoolhouse Rock.' It just works better with Sonny, Sam and Frank. To each his own, I suppose. I remain ever vigilant. ------------------ Hail to the Redskins! [ by Henry on June 26, 2001.]
Monkey
Skins_Freak, I tried to do that when I was a kid but my Dad wouldn't allow me. I guess he wanted some semblance of normalcy
NavyDave
I usually watched it in my old darrell green jersey in the safe room because during the norval years remotes and virgin ears were at risk. My other half started watching with me so I had to tone it down during some games especially when she wore her stripper err cheerleader outfit for halftime festivities. This year with my new big screen I'll record the games to see the teams strengths and weaknesses. I'll never be on par with art, kmp or bulldog as far as knowledge but I want to be a couple of rungs just under them. ------------------ Dave
PrimeTime21
Henry, that is hilarious...I can just imagine your kid just sitting there while you explain the finer points of the game ------------------ http://www.houseofprime.net
redman
Step 1: Place beer in right hand. Step 2: Place remote in left hand. Step 3: Place rear end on couch in front of TV. Step 4: Repeat Step 1 as necessary. ------------------ "Loosen up, Sandy baby. Mickalino
Monkey, you're still recording games with pen and paper ? Havn't you heard ? They invented the VCR some time ago ! Or do you live in West Virginia ?
Monkey
When the Redskins are on offense, I record my projected play and compare that to what was actually run. The Skins D during the last few years got me to start recording how many big plays the gave up
Larry
I live in Florida (motto: If nobody from Florida's playing, then it's not on TV), in Gainesville (Home of the Gators, where nobody can tell the difference between a Skins logo and a Seminole logo). I watch from a sports bar, where the only real fan groups are the Fish Heads, and the Steelers (who basically take over an entire room). I'd say about half the people in the place are fantasy football people who don't care who wins as long as so-and-so gets a lot of yards. But at least everybody there is watching football. Buddha
My wife hates it when I listen to Skins games with the TV sound turned off and WJFK on. Especially now that we live in the boonies and have to listen to Frank, Sam and Sonny on a very, VERY low power AM station. My house is 15 minutes from the tower and I have to strategically position the radio to get a semi-clear signal. But I wouldn't have it any other way. I also have a future Redskin running around game time. Last season we worked on his route running. He mastered the fly pattern and, on occasion, the post. He just didn't quite grasp the concept of catching the ball instead of running away from it. He's 3 now so maybe this season we can try the hard slant and button hook. I have a 1 year old that should at least be able to simulate Matt Stevens-like coverage by standing out of position in the middle of the living room waiting for errant throws. Terry
Last season (Dec. 2nd), I brought a Stephen Davis Nike Jersey that I found on sale in a sports shop at our local mall, and wore it for the next game. We lost to the Jints (Dec. 3rd), but fired Norv the next day! Obvously, this shirt was powerfull juju indeed, but dangerous in the hands of someone who didn't understand it's powers. So I was careful as to how I should wear it and what it wanted as a sacrifice. It definitely doesn't want company (I had friends over for the Dallas game), and it doesn't like cheap beer (Miller draft for the Pittsburgh game). Obviously, I hadn't learned to trust my instincts, use the force, snatch the pebble from the ha.... I digress. Anyway, buy ratchetting it up to a stronger brew (Whitbread Ale), and healthy food (Johnstown Brats), by not having my wife watching with me but my son popping in and out and saying the following mantra: "are we winning?", I was able to channel the power and put a whammy on the Cardinals. So that's where I'm gonna start this season. It may tak a coupla games as I fine tune that sucker, but I'll get it right.
gbear
Well, last season I lived on Capitol Hill, so I ran over to Eastern Market got a sub from Prego's, turned on the radio and the TV and sat down for a game. Since this only lead to an 6-7 record, I've moved to Silver Spring (I loved Prego's subs, but 6-7 is unacceptable). I did have some luck (2-0) when taping the games, but I was stuck listening to the tv announcers. I'm not sure that's an acceptable alternative either. I had horrible luck watching the Skins/Titans in New Orleans, so I'm never moving there. I'll grant you that I had a good time drinking with the Saints fans, but that was a group that seemed like they had had just a little too much experience rooting for the losing team. I guess this season I'll have to either find a new sub shop (Pumpernickles in Chevy Chase isn't too far away) or come up with an all new football food. Maybe it was the subs that did us in last season?
