twa
I use Spybot and AdAware, but I'm sure there are better ones,of course they are not free.
Skinsfan1311
I use Spybot and AdAware, but I'm sure there are better ones,of course they are not free. Is that the only anti-virus software that you have? The reason that I ask, is that I just bought a cheap, used laptop. It works great and has free AVG software, but the free download is set to expire at the end of May. I downloaded Spybot, but would like to increase my protection, without paying for it, as I only paid $100.00 for the laptop and don't feel like shelling out any more money. Thanks! twa
Those are not ant-virus,there are numerous free ones of those to. Do a thread search...it's been done a lot. I am using AVIRA on this one,Avast on the other(which seems better)

Rdskn4Lyf21
The free version of this works pretty good: http://www.superantispyware.com/
dockeryfan
Avast. It's free and very good. I used to use spybot and adaware. I took those off.
twa
Avast. It's free and very good. I used to use spybot and adaware. I took those off. I use and like Avast, but it does not stop adware from my experience. Of course I visit many questionable sites. The combination seems to work for me. Skinsfan1311
Thanks everyone! Basically, I picked bought it on the cheap, for travel. I don't visit questionable sites and don't want to spend any money for Anti-Virus software. I appreciate the suggestions!
Redd
I use a combination AVG, Ad-Aware, and Spybot free editions. No problems yet and I doubt I'll ever go back to paying money for Anti-Virus software(Norton).
ECU-ALUM
Spybot Search and Destroy in combination with my McAfee program (which came with my Dell and my mom paid for the 2 year protection program as my birthday present last year).
drums and skins
AVG and AdAware are two decent free programs. I personally use Avast free. Also, something a lot of people don't look into is altering their Hosts file. What this basically does is blacklist all those sites which have been singled out as bad regarding ads or questionable tactics to sell their product(s). http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm is the Hosts file I use. Redd
Weird how sometimes I run a virus scan how two of the three say there's nothing wrong but the third finds one.
