Now when Madden was teamed with his longtime stumbling, bumbling sidekick Pat Sumerall it was a different story. I remember Madden would say something like "Holy cow a one armed catch" and Sumerall in his typical fashion would reply "And what a catch it was". He never had anything of any substance to add to the conversation. C'mon, he's been a part of the NFL for a hell of a long time, so those slip ups are to be expected. I still think he's a top three color commentator, even though everyone thinks he's an idiot. He actually told me something I didn't know last week when he mentioned how a ref throwing his hat down usually meant a player stepped out of bounds.
