I've never been to our nation's Capitol (not even close in fact), however I may be moving there sometime next year. So, what do I need to know? Is it a nice place to live? You could look into Adams Morgan, Georgetown, Dupont Circle. Those are good areas in DC --- on the pricey side but it does have a low crime rate. Tons and tons and tons of great and diverse neighborhoods to pick from, lots to do, tons of twenty-somethings, and of course, we have the Skins. All that crime in a small section of this entire region. DC is a mess. There is no reason for such a smalle area with so many people to cause all of that crime. What we are doing here isn't working.
