dockeryfan
Who will be fielding punts this upcoming Monday night? Odds Greg Lewis 4-1 Brian Westbrook 7-1 JR Reed 20-1 Bethel Johnson 15-1 Reno Mahe 3-1 The odds are just a joke, but who will do it? Does Reno get a call? Or Bethel Johnson, injury and all? Should be interesting.
Number5
Word has it that Bloom, Mahe, and Tim Dwight are either in town or on their way. Also, local TV and newspapers keep reminding us that on the 75th anniversary team, Brian Westbrook was named the greatest PR in the team history.... dockeryfan
You can't make this stuff up, lol. What a joke the Eagles are right now. Sure-Handed Mahe Returns To The NestSeptember 11, 2007 | Last Updated: 9/11/07 6:25 PM ET | Comments (1) By: JUSTIN KUNKEL Two days after special teams miscues cost the Eagles the season opener in Green Bay, the team shored up its return game by re-signing Reno Mahe on Tuesday evening. http://philadelphiaeagles.com/news/Story.asp?story_id=13904

dockeryfan
I bet you won't be calling us a joke come the morning of September 18. No. Andy Reid will still be a fat absentee dad who makes horrible game day decisions and sends untalented hacks to return punts with the game on the line when he has one of the best in WB on the team. I'm watching this game as I read your post. I'm not as concerned as I was. And it doesn't matter. The team is still a joke. Gold standard that just can't quite seem to even make it to the dance except for once in the JV NFC.

OWUeagleMD
I'm actually very excited with the possibility that Reno Mahe will be returning punts. That, I have no problem admitting, is a joke.

Gold standard that just can't quite seem to even make it to the dance except for once in the JV NFC. This entire sentiment is a joke. I have no desire to get into the "Redskins do this. Eagles do this" pissing match that I've had on these boards hundreds of times, but suffice to say that I could be equally dismissive to the status of the Washington Redskins. Reality: we have dominated the Redskins for 7 years, and will dominate once again on Monday night. You can consider us a joke next Tuesday if you'd like-- I don't really see us as Super Bowl contenders myself-- but at least take notice of where you stand when making such statements. Quit talking sense, I'm pushing buttons, dammit. Seriously, if you think the Eagles will dominate, I'll take the Redskins +7. I watched a very average GB team leave a lot of yards on the field. Big Weirdo
Well it's officially the Stormin' Mormon. Watch him muff the first punt. I swear to god I'll go ballistic.
dockeryfan
Seriously, though. If Gibbs had gone into the season with no one to return kicks, he would have been lambasted. Why Reid is getting a pass on this is just crazy. It is not the sign of a good coach.

I wouldn't. Reno "Fair Catch" Mahe takes all of the excitement out of any punt return. Certainly nothing to hold your breath about there... He slams the Chiefs for their offseason moves. He even goes so far as to single out the cutting of Daunte Hall for Eddie Drummond, who muffed a punt. He doesn't even mention Reid and his decision to simply go without a kick returner, lol http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/writers/don_banks/09/11/chiefs/index.html And the mighty Peter King A 6 page article. Not one mention of this simply horrible decision. Actually, he goes on to say McNabb had the mobility of Byron Leftwich, which is crap. I thought he was moving great, it was his head that wasn't up to speed. He was making bad decisions, and simply couldn't see the field as well as before. He was rusty, but I thought his moving around in the pocket looked great. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/writers/peter_king/09/09/Week1/index.html So while it may seem like he's getting raked over the coals in Philly, because of fan sites and radio shows, national media is giving him a big pass. OWUeagleMD
I agree that the Eagles punt return situation is symptomatic of a mismanaged/poorly coached team. I don't understand why he always seems to think he can reinvent NFL football. Every other team in the league has no problem securing a roster spot for someone who is strictly a return man, yet Reid needs to prove that its not neccesary. Sunday was a frustrating day. I have no doubt in my mind that this team will bounce back in a big way against a division rival in our home opener.
