goldenster95
Cowboys name Detroit's Carthon offensive coordinator, keep Zimmer By Clarence E. Hill Jr. Star-Telegram Staff Writer IRVING - Cowboys coach Bill Parcells named Maurice Carthon of Detroit as offensive coordinator and retained Mike Zimmer as defensive coordinator today. Carthon replaces Bruce Coslet, who served as the Cowboys coordinator for one season. Carthon was the Lions offensive coordinator last season after spending the previous year as running backs coach. Before arriving in Detroit, Carthon was assistant head coach/running backs with the New York Jets (1997-2000) and running backs coach with New England (1994-1996). Carthon was a running back on Parcells' 1986 and 1992 Super Bowl champion squads. He played seven seasons with the Giants before finishing his career with Indianapolis in 1992. In his NFL career, Carthon rushed for 950 yards and two touchdowns and caught 90 passes for 745 yards and two touchdowns. Before signing as a free agent with the Giants in 1985, Carthon was an eighth-round draft pick of the United States Football League New Jersey Generals. He played for the Generals from 1983-85, rushing for 2,102 yards and helping pave the way for the league's leading rusher, Herschel Walker. Zimmer just completed his ninth year with the Cowboys and third as defensive coordinator. His unit was ranked 19th in 2000, fourth in 2001 and 18th in 2002. http://www.dfw.com/mld/dfw/sports/4885434.htm
redskin56
Guess there was some truth to Parcells stating that he was confident that he would be able to assemble a staff quickly. Detroit's Offense wasn't brilliant this year, but, Carthon is a Parcells guy and the two will probably be dangerous.
The Evil Genius
Dallas should be able to win 7 games next year - and unless they drastically repair their OLine...thats about all the games they should win. Just my .02 though.

Dale
Carthon will be Offensive Coordinator / Running Backs Coach here in Dallas according to Parcells. He's worked for Parcells in New York (Jets) and New England, and played for him with the Giants obviously. While he was the offensive coordinator in Detroit, he didn't call the plays -- Morhinweg did. According to Parcells, he's going to hire a "big-named" offensive assistant, though said we shouldn't assume it's who we think it will be (speculation has been Tom Coughlin might join him here, so he seemed to be nixing that idea). The Evil Genius
Why would Tom Coughlin go there when he can be the HC in Cincinnati or somewhere else? Much like Wookies on Endor - it doesnt make sense.
@DCGoldPants
Parcells is doing the right things so far though. He's getting guys he trusts and knows his system and even though it might not work perfectly the 1st time around, it will in the long run...just to get the system installed. Interesting....that sounds so familiar.
Could'a, Would'a, Should'a
better news for Dallas is they keep Zimmer as D-co, there was alot of speculation about guys like Nguyen (Sp?) & Coakley & Ross being too undersized in a parcells system for it to work. Nighthawk
Detroit did in fact run the WCO but that's because HC Marty Mornhinweg is a WCO coach. He coached in GB then was offensive coordinator in San Fran. He was in essence the offensive coordinator in Detroit which is why I believe they allowed Carthon to move on to Dallas. Tom [Giants fan]
How long before he hires L.T. as an assistant defensive coordinator??? I do know one thing, Harry Carson won't be on his staff. On a Giants pregame show before yesterday's game, Carson put a big taped X on a picture of Parcells. Carson is upset that Parcells would take a job with an NFC East rival of the Giants. And he didn't hide it.
bulldog
Yeah, that's one of the things I like about Walsh. He didn't go anywhere else in the NFL after the 49ers. He went back to Stanford and then came back to rescue the franchise after Vinny and Co. made a mess of things I still find it strange that Joe Gibbs would choose to buy into the Falcons.
