Shallow1
I will do my part to protect the Puerto Rican culture during this time of crisis and as an act of good faith and good will I will allow any Puerto Rican girls from the age 19-24 to come stay with me free of charge until this tragety has passed. Of coarse room is limited here and to help out the maximum number of girls I request that they weigh under 120 lbs and bring as little clothing as possible............ If you wish to donate to my cause please send $$$$.......
HSF
Its absurd to think of that happening here. We are just a little different than PR. Exactly! It's only a 3 and an hour flight from here.

skinfan133
There's no excuse for this, with all the revenue coming in from tourism. even though it is a US comonwelth there is some coruption going on there. too bad the vote for statehood isnt for three more years:doh: **polls show 54% of the lsland want to become a state. Mickalino
Why is the word "Earth" in the thread title? I'm guessing it has something to do with the fact that it's a commonwealth, and not a state or a nation

Now it's going to be less. An ex governor (who is whacked out of his mind and is behind this crisis) ran last election. It was proven that he stole campaign funds to buy his house in McLean. There is A LOT OF CORRUPTION! Auditors regularly conduct audits at different government agencies and find millions of misused funds. Some auditors have police escorts to and from their houses since they have conducted some high priority audits that have angered a lot of corruptors. G-Prime
A chain reaction has been set. No money=no spending.Right now' date=' the airport was almost empty. The only planes arriving in and departing are full of tourists. VERY LITTLE OF THEM ARE PUERTO RICANS LEAVING THE ISLAND. In addition, Puerto Rico has issues with the rising tensions regarding immigration. A lot of Dominicans, Haitians and other immigrants come to the island to later move to the mainland. What this equals is that PUERTO RICO WILL LOOSE ALL CREDIBILITY IN THE EYES OF THE REST OF THE WORLD. THE HOPE FOR STATEHOOD ARE LOWER THAN EVER AND SO FAR FROM COMING TRUE.[/quote'] It was my understanding that every so often the US offers them statehood and they have a vote on it. Doesn't seem they want to be a state. I could be completely wrong in this I just remember hearing something along these lines

I could be completely wrong in this I just remember hearing something along these lines You are correct! :applause: When they hold the referendums (one I actually voted many years ago for statehood), the outcome was to remain the same a Commonwealth. Two reasons why: 1. Don't want to pay state taxes. Local taxes suck and are enough already. 2. Fear of loosing culture.

American Statehood or b. INDEPENDENCE. Sh*t or get off the pot!!! I hold very little sympathy for these people right now. They put their faith in a GOVERNMENT to run their entire lives and now that the government is broke, their lives are going down the crapper. Well, that's the price for allowing the government to be involved in so many things. I WISH this sort of thing would happen on a large scale here in the United States. MAYBE, JUST MAYBE, we'd stop allowing the government to control things that it has no right or mandate to be involved in.

Mass_SkinsFan
PUERTO RICANS ARE AMERICANS. There is no such thing as Puerto Rican citizenship. Not so far as I'm concerned. Which goes for the residents of the Virgin Islands, Guam and every other protectorate out there. If you want to be AMERICAN CITIZENS, become a STATE for Christ's Sake, start paying taxes and acknowledging the AMERICAN CULTURE. Otherwise we should be cutting these people off. Either become a state or become your own independent nation. Nothing inbetween.

Mass_SkinsFan
I'm having a flash of deja vu... You've got the unfair advantage of much greater exposure to me than most of the posters here, Predicto. Though I do get the feeling the ES family will catch on to my view of the world a lot quicker than the KFFL family did. Heck, I haven't even had to begin using my "ignore" list here yet. We dont call people from New Mexico, "New Mexicans". And there's culture in New Mexico, just like there is, in Puerto Rico.

Mass_SkinsFan
Then why did the AMERICANS INVADE PUERTO RICO TO BEGIN WITH? I don't think the invasion was the problem so much as the lack of withdrawl at the end of the conflict.

Mass_SkinsFan
THERE IS A PUERTO RICAN FLAG AND NEXT TO IT A US FLAG. There's a huge part of the problem, Huly. The flag of a state or protectorate is supposed to be flown LOWER than the Stars & Stripes. That's actually a problem I've seen here in CT and MA as well with Puerto Rican flags.
