FBI Looking For Porn Squad Recruits

Now I would agree that by the way this article is reporting this story -- it sounds like investigating legal porn is a misallocation of the FBI's resources. However, I definitely will hold out judgement on this until the story moves a bit further along.

First, porn is big business in America. And might I be the first to say that it draws on some unsavory elements from our society? I wouldn't be surprised if this initiative had something to do with investigating ties with organized crime and/or (though a bit farther fetched) terrorist groups. Completely theoretical, but I don't believe organized crimes' involvement would be a stretch.

And Chom -- while I agree with your assertion that legal porn does not ALWAYS lead to more degenerate behavior (as if viewing women as objects isn't bad enough) -- what exactly are its edifying properties? Does it help men (particularly) think better of their wives or girlfriend or worse? Does it lead them to treat them better or worse? If you had a daughter, would you want her future boyfriend/husband to look at it?

And for some depraved folks (a distinct minority, I'd think), my IMPRESSION is that the addiction to legal porn definitely does lead to a desensitization; so that only increasingly perverse fetishes will get it done for them.

While I do believe that currently legal pornography is something that can be outlawed in a free society such as ours, I don't think it belongs up there with "Life, Liberty, the Pursuit of Happiness" or "Mom, FOOTBALL, and apple pie". It's not exactly a wholesome endeavor which should be encouraged.

Purely, my :2cents:

I don't bother to look at porn myself, but society has changed even in the 16 years since I graduated HS. It is part of the culture of society right now, if we like it or not. I don't think there is a college campus out there where kids aren't looking at porn. I'm not going to say it is a good thing for society at all, but there is absolutely no reason at all we should be allocating federal money, and FBI agents to tackle something that is LEGAL.

Sex is great, but society has kept sexuality repressed for far to long. The cat's finally starting to come out of the bag now, and it should be embraced and understood. Instead of trying to understand sexuality, some people want to repress it and make it look bad. The post I replied to was along those lines IMHO.

chomerics,

I respect what you say excpet for the part that I need to get laid more. I was just giving my 2 cents. I am a married man and I get laid plenty of times by an awesome women a couple nights a week. So anyway what I said was if you really get addicted (like to badly then you might have problems or might explore things) then it leads to the kiddy porn at times and people become sick with out even knowing it. I'm not interested in looking at porn just out of respect to my wife. Have I looked at it in the past sure ,but I am a married man and I give 100% devotion to my wife as she does to me and that is what helps us have a great marriage. I must say I am a religious guy also so I don't agree with it anyway. Whatever you do with your time and maybe look at it or not that is your decision and I am not the one to judge you and I would never.

If they start prosecuting posession of legal porn I am headed to the gas chamber along with almost every male in the western hemisphere.

There is nothing wrong with adult porn, it is simply entertainment. That being said as I got older I watch almost no porn mainly cause I have a girlfriend but I also know of the seedy side of the industry. Those girls are usually coked up and come from bad backgrounds. I don't want to fund their demise. In addition porn does desensitize people who watch it too frequently, myself included. Imagine my suprise when I discovered real girls aren't as "willing" as Jenna Jameson and friends!

Nevertheless if someone wishes to view adult porn I see nothing wrong with it. Also I don't think the administration is taking this seriously otherwise there would be more than 10 agents working on it.

Sure they are taking it seriously. The idea is not to prosecute everyone, just a couple of high profile people. They are hoping that prosecuting one pornographer will have a chilling effect on all the others. Heck, you don't even have to win - just make the guy spend all his money on legal fees. A jail term is just a bonus.
