  1. Beyond stoked. It's starting to look like we are in an ideal spot that multiple teams will be calling for depending on how the top 10 shakes out. Hopefully we get blown away by the offers and resist the temptation to reach for a player like Olave. I'd trade down to the 20s without worry if Olave would be there, because Dotson is as good if not better. Not to mention the dozens of others that would be worth the 20-range value.
  2. Especially Linderbaum. Who is a center only. He also got absolutely destroyed by Leo Chenal and Wisconsin. Hard pass.
  3. Praying to the trade down gods all day today. At 11, not 47. If you trade from 11 you have a chance to pick up 3 immediate impact players. We must trade down. The main reason I don't want to trade down in the 2nd is because Walker might be there...I also would love it Watson was there if we don't go WR at 11. Gonna be such an interesting draft. Please don't botch this! This could be a franchise turning point type draft if we play our cards right.
  4. Fingers crossed Drake London goes at pick 9 or 10 so we trade back big in the 1st.
  5. I wonder if it's more likely on draft night. IE a playoff team misses out on their target DT in the draft and trades for Payne as their backup option. Seems like a probably scenario. Kinda like "Hey, how much did you guys say you wanted for him? Ok. Cool. Depending on how things go Thursday/Friday we might be calling you back"
  6. I think people are overreacting. 1-tech is not that valuable of a position. Payne can and will be replaced. Just like people were freaking out when we lost Morgan Moses we ended up with a better unit. This will play out the same way.
  7. I agree, it's a lot of "IFs". With some savvy moves like trading Payne for a 2nd/3rd plus a trade down from 11 to the 20s and loading our draft with mid round picks we could be a serious contender. My trust in them to do it is questionable at best.
  8. I'd bet someone shakes free in post-draft cuts that we sign. If not, still don't care. Bring in 3 or 4 UDFAs and let them Duke it out for the spot. UDFA pool will be better this year than most. 3rd or 4th round would be the highest I'd draft a replacement 1-tech.
  9. Honestly Payne is a luxury that most teams don't have and still have elite defenses. 3 tech is the more important DT, and next to Allen you really only need a competent body at 1-tech. Hell, in pass rushing downs, Payne is the one coming off the field anyway. They probably don't see 1-tech as a position worth large money. I'd be fine with a 2nd or even better, two 3rd rounders for Payne. Draft a mid round 1-tech plus sign a guy like Star L in FA. Problem solved.
  10. Looks like Phidarian Mathis could be had in the 3rd round and could be a competent replacement for Payne at 1-tech. If we fetch a late 1st or 2nd rounder for Payne plus some change, draft Mathis in the 3rd and a late rounder/UDFA at DT as well, I'd be happy with that exchange. Mathis was a team captain at Bama and is scheme-versatile. 2nd team All American. He fits. Can push the pocket on early downs and rotate out for one of our pass rushing DE/DT hybrids on 3rd down. I like the fit. OVERALL Phidarian Mathis is the high-floor defensive lineman to target in this class. A four-year contributor at Alabama, Mathis has a thick build with surprisingly nimble feet, which allowed him to play anywhere from 0-technique to 5-technique in the Tide's scheme. Mathis' game is defined by his awareness and ability to read plays instantly, as well as how to handle different blocking schemes. He can sit and anchor against double-teams just as well as he can move with the flow of the play in zone and play with his eyes in the backfield. His eyes, length and violence in shedding blocks also allow him to cross-face and play a secondary gap
  11. As long as we get good value for Payne im fine with trading him on draft night for more picks. This is the draft you load up your depth with and Payne could get us the ammunition to do so. Can't pay all 4 of the DL guys. Wish we kept settle now but I will reserve judgement on the move until after the draft and post-draft FA. Wish I spent more time on IDL prospects leading up to the draft. Here is our list of interviews/visits on the IDL guys: Thomas Booker, Defensive Tackle, Stanford – TV Matthew Butler, Defensive Tackle, Tennessee – EW (IM) D.J. Davidson, Defensive Tackle, Arizona State – EW (IM) Jordan Davis, Defensive Tackle, Georgia – NFLC (IM), TPD (IM) Travis Jones, Defensive Tackle, Connecticut – SB (IM), NFLC (IM), TPD (IM) Phidarian Mathis, Defensive Tackle, Alabama – SB (IM), (NFLC (IM), TPD (IM) Otito Ogbonnia, Defensive Tackle, UCLA – SB, TPD (IM), TV Derrick Tangelo, Defensive Tackle, Penn State – EW (IM) Perrion Winfrey, Defensive Tackle, Oklahoma – SB (IM), TPD (IM), TV Devonte Wyatt, Defensive Tackle, Georgia – SB (IM), NFLC (IM), TPD (IM) Can anyone who's watched more IDL tape tell me who projects as a 1-tech? Seems like we've done our due-dilligence....
  12. Funny you mention it because I have the same struggle. Hall I feel is the total package prospect. But there's just something about Walker that makes me feel he will be special. I flip flop on them all the time. The Portis comp is one that came to mind for me as well and it has me salivating at the thought of a Portis + Gibson backfield.
  13. After rewatching Jahan Dotson, I'd take him over Olave. So for the people worried about "getting cute" and missing Olave after a trade back...I wouldn't even care because Dotson is as good a player if not better. I'd take it a step further, id take Cine OR Dax Hill over Hamilton. Dax Hill has the same wingspan as Hamilton and is 4 inches shorter. Dax Hill has that next gear that Hamilton doesn't. Both him and Cine are gonna be great.
  14. With the NFL moved on to a 17 game schedule, depth is more important than ever. Drafting is more important than ever. You can't run a RB into the ground for 17 games, you need at least two swing backups on the OL that can start any given week and do a good job of it (were pretty good in this regard). And I also think it's why you see teams going 3 deep at high caliber WRs. Depth is the name of the game now. Luckily, this is the perfect draft to build that depth of starters waiting in the wings.
  15. Also... Really starting buy the Carson Strong hype. Rolling with Wentz while Carson Strongs knee fully rehabs and accepts the cadaver cartilage.... But also being a low enough pick to not bruise Wentz's ego in the meantime sounds really ideal. And he's healthy enough to still be a camp arm. If we clearly target him in the draft with manuevering and it turns out it was our plan all along I will be quite impressed.
  16. Interesting note on Damone Clark. He was granted to wear number 18. The number that is only given to players that exhibit leadership on the team. He was the heartbeat of the LSU defense and an excellent teammate apparently. I'd love if he were our LB pick in the later rounds coupled with a post-draft free agent signing while he recovers from the surgery. As far as late rounders go he's my favorite, but would be just as happy with Brandon Smith or Darrian Beavers. Beavers is interesting because he's a former DE and can add some pass rush.
  17. Sign me up! The Texans have some tasty draft capital I'd like us to get our hands on. @KDawg Where do you have Tariq Castro-Fields on your CB rankings? I like the kid.
  18. I've come around on the corners like you have with Watson lol. I really like Tariq Castro-Fields. LB is deep as hell too. Beavers, Brandon Smith, Damone Clark Also digging Ron's comments of not being limited to a Safety manning the buffalo spot. Opens things up for the guys like Asamoah, JoJo Domann. Man I really love this entire class in general. Never before have the deep positions matched up with team needs this strongly (in recent memory)
  19. Ron has a history of no first round corners but it would be tough to pass on Sauce. I think the more likely scenario is grooming St.Juste and another mid rounder this year as their replacements. At minimum I think we either draft or sign a slot guy this off-season. Or both.
  20. Also seems that drafting a QB is high probability judging from the coaches comments at the presser today. My money is on Carson Strong if he slides to the 4th, or Jack Coan 6th/7th. Otherwise, we pluck from UDFA. Side note, if we traded a future 5th last year for more picks, I hope to God we realize this draft is worth doing that for again. I'd trade our future 4th and 5th rounders for an additional 3rd rounder this year.
  21. To all those joking about Elon musk banning his critics... Hard to argue with this approach. Why are people mad again? What a great day for free speech and our democratic republic! God Bless this beautiful country! Hail to the Redskins
  22. One line from Martin Mayhew that seemed to slip out: "There's gonna be tons of starters all the way through 3rd, 4th, 5th round... We have 6 picks now, and I doubt we finish the draft with those 6 picks, there's gonna be some movement.... Thank god!
  23. I'm hoping the late interest in Williams is just a smoke screen hoping that other teams think we will take him at 11 and trade up with us.
  24. So I take it you support holding Hillary accountable for the Russia facade that proved to be a nothing-burger?
