  1. One of my faves OL-wise is Zach Tom Dont like that ESPN started the day talking about K. Austin. I know its a stretch that we take another WR but I really like the kid.
  2. He will two gap just as good or better than Payne and allow Allen and the edge guys to clean up. Or he will clean up sacks himself when those guys force the QB to step up in the pocket. That's day 1. That's before he gets coached up to refine his technique issues, high pad level, etc. He already has great hand work.
  3. Lol. Mathis had 9 sacks last season, which was #1 in the entire FBS. I'd wager he will be a better pro than Payne when it's all said and done. Payne had 1.5 sacks his senior year.
  4. I'd be willing to wager we draft one of the remaining Cincy players today. Starting to get a gut feeling Beavers is our guy at LB. Ron was at cincys pro day for a reason. It's either Coby Bryant or Beavers. One of them is ours today if they are there. I hope we move Shaka to a hybrid Sam/Rush backer role like Bruce Irvin. He got his feet wet and learned NFL technique on the end last year. Time to put him in the best position to excel.
  5. Be honest, for those who hate the 2nd and 3rd round picks, did you watch their tape at all? Or are you basing your draft grades on who ESPN told you were the best available players?
  6. I think we pivot from this strategy starting today and complete the draft with picking high ceiling, high RAS score guys. Or at least we should. This is the day to take some gambles on some boom or bust guys.
  7. Agreed. If we wanted a "Thunder" to Gibson's "Lightning" type running back tandem...we got the best Thunder in the draft. We both called Phidarian Mathis, although I was late to the party because I didn't expect to be needing to scout DT until the Payne news. Everyone thinks we could have gotten him in the third, but if he was a reach it was only a slight one. Like 7-8 picks. Just like Robinson, he still has a ton of potential with coaching to be brought out of him. He plays a little high at times and has some bad habits that can be easily corrected. Could see him eventually being better than Payne, along with being a better teammate.
  8. @KDawg What's so exciting about Brian Robinson is that he has so little miles on him. Also he has so much untapped potential that could be brought out of him with coaching. He was just getting into a groove with his 1st year playing a full season as a starter. If we turned Gibson into a RB imagine Robinson with that same coaching. Stoked.
  9. Love how high our picks are in the 4th round. I could see us trading down from the 1st one if we're offered a haul of multiple 5th and 6th rounders if some team has multiple. But I'd rather stay put with how many good players remaining on the board.
  10. My official watch-list. Didn't include OL even though I have favorites. I'm that confident that whoever we pick at OL will be solid with starter upside with our track record lately QB Sam Howell Carson Strong DT Perrion Winfrey Otito Ogbonnia Matthew Butler Neil Farrell CB Tariq Woolen Coby Bryant Tariq Castro-Fields WR Justyn Ross Kevin Austin Romeo Doubs LB Brandon Smith Damone Clark Darrian Beavers Jack Sanborn TE Isaiah Likely Charlie Kolar James Mitchell Cole Turner Chig Okonkwo Daniel Bellinger Jalen Wydermyer Cade Otton Safety/Buffalo Nickel Guys JoJo Domann Malcolm Rodriguez Darien Butler Markquese Bell Smoke Monday Sterling Weatherford Tycen Anderson Percy Butler Dane Belton
  11. If Christian Watson becomes an all pro with Aaron Rodgers throwing him the ball I'm gonna be kinda salty we didn't take that 2nd trade down to the 20s. And that's coming from someone who really loves the Dotson pick. Overall I'm stoked with the draft so far. They clearly have a plan and are sticking to it. High character, day 1 impact players with our first 3 players is a damn good draft.
  12. I'd be over the moon if we traded Payne for two 4ths and our 4th round went like this: Smith/Clark Walker Sam Howell Winfrey
  13. I would support this trade. We could take Perrion Winfrey with one of our four picks. Mathis + Winfrey is an overall upgrade over just Payne.
  14. I'm with @KDawg Brandon Smith with our first pick, best remaining OL with the 2nd 4th rounder. if we somehow miss on Smith. We better bring in Damone Clark. He would have been top 3 LB this year prior to surgery and is expected to make a full recovery. He wore #18 which only goes to the most influential players in leadership at LSU. He fits the high character mold. Damone Clark + a 1 year deal Free agent and couple UDFAs and LB would be addressed for both the immediate and long term future.
  15. Our Day 3 targets are almost identical. I think OL and LB are the picks today. OL is likely BPA, and LB needs to be the 2nd 4th rounder just because of there being so few left available. Is Sterling Weatherford still available? Or maybe we can re-sign Landon. Worried about Buffalo and LB not being addressed. Outside of the 1st rounder and the slight reach on Mathis I'm really stoked with the draft. Imagine if we didn't have that third rounder. Post draft trade of Payne for a player?
  16. Interesting note that this draft appears to be the polar opposite of last year's. Last year we took all 9.0+ RAS score guys with high ceilings. This year we took really high floor, team captain types. We can still crush this thing out of the park with some savvy moves tomorrow. I don't think a single pick has been wasted thus far. We have 3 picks that are all Day-1 impact guys. I'm higher and higher on Mathis the more I dig deeper into his film. Still need to Address: LB, BN, Slot Corner, TE.
  17. Didn't realize Brandon Smith was still available. Add him to Beavers and Clark as my wish list for LB. I could see them liking smith's athletic upside.
  18. PFF had Phidarian Mathis ranked as the 4th best DT 4. PHIDARIAN MATHIS, ALABAMA There is really great value in either Hall or Phidarian Mathis somewhere in the second round. I will always fall for a defensive lineman who is always trying to use his hands to beat offensive linemen rather than through brute strength. Mathis certainly has the strength to do that, but he’s not content unless he’s trying to club and rip through the opposing lineman. When you look at him compared to Christian Barmore, who manned the same position a year prior at Alabama, you can see why Barmore was picked 38th overall and then had an outstanding rookie season as a pass-rusher, finishing with a 76.1 pass-rush grade but only a 44.7 run-defense grade. Mathis is the opposite. His strength will allow him to play the run right away in his NFL career, but he doesn’t have the same quickness that allowed Barmore to be a solid pass-rusher right off the bat. If Mathis falls below the middle of the second round, someone is getting a good player with really nice pass-rushing upside.
  19. Who the hell is going to play MLB. We better draft Beavers or Clark+ FA Clark would be a very non-short sighted move. So we'll probably end up taking Diego Fagot from Navy to pair with Mayo at LB. Confident we will get a very solid OL with one of the picks tomorrow. As usual, fanbase reaction is awful to what in all reality is a super solid draft. Gut feeling that Dotson will have the best rookie season of all the 1st rounders and Mathis will surprise at how good he is. Would have rather had Pierce over Robinson but he's honestly probably just as good if not better than Pierce. I trust our scouts in the mid rounds. I really do.
  20. Damn. Leo Chenal to the Chiefs. Kdawgs boy, Danny gray to the niners. Favorite remaining: CB Tariq Woolen Tariq Castro-Fields Coby Bryant OL Faalele Zach Tom Salyer Max Mitchell Buffalo JoJo Domann Sterling Weatherford Markquese Bell FS Percy Butler TE Bellinger Cole Turner Chig Okonkwo MLB Darrian Beavers Damone Clark WR Kevin Austin QB Carson Strong Sam Howell is starting to become interesting...
  21. No way we go back to back defense. I got us taking Falele or a different OL probably.
  22. Kdawg, who you want us to take at 98? Or who are you hoping falls to us?
  23. No way Chenal makes it past both patriots picks... No way.
  24. Also pray to God we already have a trade lined up for two 4th rounders for Payne or something. Or two 4ths and a 3rd next year or something. We can hope.
  25. Please God let Chenal fall to us at 98. I'd be elated.
