As a teenage neutral observer, I was disgusted watching that game and seeing that call at the end. There was no way that was ever a catch.

There is zero chance the Eagles take a running back in the top ten. Period. Eagles fans have been laughing at that mock because it is so absurd. Also, they have significant holes at DT, DE, CB, and S. Almost all of their “talent” at that position is old. They could also sneak in an OT pick and it would not be a shock. But they ain’t taking a RB with their first pick. That’s not the way they operate.

As a point of reference, in last year’s finale between the Eagles and Cowboys in a game that didn’t matter to either team, the Eagles played their backups while the Cowboys played their regulars and won handily. Knowing the Eagles as well as I do, I’m pretty sure they would play backups against the Giants if the game doesn’t matter. I think it’s far more likely that the Cowboys go all out under similar circumstances.

I think that’s really unlikely. The Eagles rested everyone in the finale last year after clinching a playoff berth. And though it’s not quite the same thing, they pretty much sat all their regulars throughout the entire preseason, much to the dismay of Eagles fans. Sirianni doesn’t appear to like to expose his starters when it’s not necessary. It seems to be a thing with him. My guess is that if they Eagles have the top seed clinched (not likely because I’m not convinced they’re beating Dallas on Christmas Eve) with two games to go, they go all out against the Saints because they need the Saints draft pick to be as high as possible and then rest everyone against the Giants.

I thought it made sense. The FG is only about a 50% chance. I think the odds of converting were better than that. And if you miss, you give GB good field position. And if you make it, you not only don’t win on the spot, but you enable the Packers to be in position where they know in advance that they are going for it on fourth down. It’s almost like giving them an extra play.

I think it’s unrealistic to think a nine win team will make the playoffs. Especially with the Giants and Cowboys already at six wins apiece and the Seahawks leading their division with six wins. You’d really need the 49ers to collapse for them to not make the playoffs. If y’all want to make it as the seventh seed, you ought to have your sights set on ten wins. You’d have a shot there.

Hurts doesn’t have the arm that McNair had. He’s improving as a passer for sure but he’s not a natural. Incidentally — and I realize this wasn’t alluded to — I would say that Vick was a significantly more talented thrower of the football than Lamar Jackson is. Vick had a rocket of an arm and an amazingly quick release. He could really, really spin it. Lamar has this weird sidearm delivery and is really wild at times. On the other hand, he’s the only quarterback I’ve ever seen who could legitimately compare to Vick as a runner. Those two are miles ahead of all of the other great running quarterbacks of the past.

I’ve been to a lot of big sporting events in my life. The aura isn’t quite as lustrous for me as it might be for others. Let someone else have the fun. It’s too expensive anyway.

Oh, I damn sure remember the sixties and seventies and how awful they were. From the year I started watching football (third grade) until the day I graduated high school, the Eagles never had a winning season. They finished .500 once. It was tiresome going to the games with my father knowing they were going to get destroyed...and then watching them get destroyed. In school, even though most kids were really Eagles fans at heart, no one would readily admit it. We were all "fans" of other teams. The good teams. There were a lot of Cowboys fans running around. Vikings. Steelers. Rams. Hell, I used to also root for the Raiders and later on the Dolphins. When the Eagles actually got good in the late seventies, it was like I had died and gone to heaven. It was like I was living in an alternate universe where suddenly the Eagles are actually contenders. Too bad it was short lived. And then Marion Campbell happened. The clown show returned and everything was back to "normal" again. I was offered a ticket to WS game 5 for $250. I passed. But yeah, it's been fun and quite definitely unexpected.

And the Eagles picked Indiana offensive tackle Kevin Allen ahead of Lachey. Allen lasted one season before getting cut and vanishing from the league. He might have even ended up in prison. The Eagles were an absolute clown show after Vermeil retired, up until Buddy Ryan’s third year.
