  1. Just rewatched all episodes of The IT Crowd. If you like British humor, I highly recommend it. Hilarious.
  2. Dude...Cybil was a hottie. The diving board scene is good stuff. And The Last Picture Show is an incredible film. My favorite coming of age movie. And if you like Picture Show, check out Paper Moon. It's a damn good movie as well, if you like older stuff.
  3. I watched Cold in July. A pretty wild ride for sure, but it left me feeling a bit unsatisfied. It's kinda like they threw the boomerang waaay out there and it never quite came back. But certainly different, which is always welcome. Pissed they pulled Locke on Friday before I could see it. Watched Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy when I woke up this morning. A lot of info to digest and follow, but Oldman is just so ****ing good. You can see certain shots where they hold on him when he's doing nothing at all, just because he's so damn good. Great spy flick for people who like cerebral espionage movies.
  4. Had a few new beers this weekend. I recommend all of them if you like these kinds of brews. Admittedly, I'm not a beer snob by any means. I love good beer, but I'm just as happy drinking Pabst on a hot day. St. Peter's Cream Stout - Dark and delicious. I personally don't like the bitter finish with some dark ales or stouts, but this didn't have that. Horny Goat Chocolate Peanut Butter Stout - Tastes like it sounds. The saltiness of the peanut butter was there, but it wasn't as sweet as I thought. Brilliant. I had three pints and could've taken a couple more. Wexford's Cream Ale - I'd had this beer before, but wanted to list it here because it's a hard find. The beer & wine bar I was at had it in stock, so I drank a few. Light, creamy, refreshing. Some of the cream ales have a bit of a sour taste, but not this one. One of my faves. Aloha Coconut Brown Ale - I'm not a huge "flavored" beer guy, and I'm not even a big coconut fan. But there's something about the coconut flavor that brings out the awesome side of this dark beer. You know a beer has made an impression when you're still thinking about it a few days later. And I'd like to add, if any of you get a chance to buy some Snyder's Pretzel Pieces "Salted Caramel" flavor, do it. If you eat those with a Guinness or any dark beer of your liking, you'll literally laugh at how smart you suddenly feel.
  5. Thanks mboyd! I'm checking it out tomorrow night. Looks awesome. Also gonna see Locke. Getting my indie on this weekend.
  6. If we have ES movie night, and we go see The Fault of our Stars, our shame will live for all eternity. Was hoping Edge of Tomorrow might be good. Doug Liman directs some good stuff, like Swingers and The Bourne Identity. I might go check it out. Doesn't the idea of battling stuff until you die, gaining knowledge, getting a new life, going back into battle and using that knowledge to win sound a lot like The Legend of Zelda?
  7. I kind of think the opposite here. I think Sandler suffers from the studios wanting his movies to "have meaning", so he winds up in movies that kinda hug the middle of the road. I think his silly comedies were his best work. Billy Madison still makes me laugh. Interstellar will be huge. I'm a big Nolan fan, and Following is my favorite film of his. I'm not as big on McConaughey as most, but I expect Nolan will deliver another great flick. I'm glad there are a few filmmakers still working that can mix art with a commercial appeal. Event films are still awesome when they're good. Jupiter Ascending getting pushed does not surprise me. It's a turkey. And if they're pushing to February, that's a horrible sign. Most likely awful test screenings, and they will head back to the avid suites. It is disappointing, because I think The Wachowski brothers are great filmmakers. If you haven't seen Bound, it's worth a look. Great film. On the "push" note, I would like to add a bit of info that might help you when deciding whether to check out a film or not. Basically, at the end of January - the end of April is a big dead period for studio films. If the film was any good, they would release it in the summer or at Christmas. And then, August - October is another dead period. A lot of the films released in these dead periods are ones that have tested poorly, or that they have been sitting on for a year or more. There are exceptions of course, but they are rare. That's why your chances of seeing a disappointment greatly increases during that time frame. In some worst case scenarios, studios will do what is called a "wide multiple" release. This is when you see a movie get advertised a lot right before the release date, usually with actors you know. Paranoia comes to mind with Oldman and Ford recently. And you think "why haven't I heard about this film when it has such great actors?" And the answer is because it is terrible. The studios flood the airwaves with tons of advertising in an attempt to make as much money back on opening weekend. They know after the opening, it will tank. Just thought I'd share.
  8. My first post in the tailgate. Makes me feel kinda dirty, like hanging out in the back alley on ES. I'm a bit of a movie nerd, so if anyone appreciates indie type stuff, we can certainly bounce recommendations off each other. XMen - Saw it last night. I thought it was on par with the first two installments, though I admittedly like XMen 2 more than the first. The scene with Quicksilver was exceptional. Fassbender as Magneto is a nice touch. Godzilla - Not bad, but probably not as good of a popcorn flick as Pacific Rim. Gareth Edwards' desire to show less monster mayhem worked nicely in his indie flick Monsters, but it seems a bit misguided here when he had a blank check to work with. Blue Ruin - Awesome little indie revenge flick about a guy looking to hunt down the man who killed his father. Some dark humor mixed nicely with some graphic violence. Highly recommend. The Raid 2 - A little more sprawling than the original, but the fight sequences are badass. As good as any action flick you will see at the movies, if you don't mind subtitles. I highly recommend both installments of this franchise. If you don't like a little gore with your action, you probably shouldn't watch this. Under the Skin - Visually stunning tale that follows Scarlett Johansson around Scotland as she picks up hitchhikers and disposes of them. I don't recommend this for anyone who doesn't like abstract films, but I would for anyone who likes cinematography and unique visions. Scarlett is without clothes a lot which will satisfy most. Rentals: Blackfish - Documentary about the killer whales at Seaworld. As disturbing as any horror flick you will see. Such a riveting film, you'll find it hard to look away. Take Shelter - From the director of Mud, a story about a man and his haunting visions of an impending apocalypse. Michael Shannon is flawless here. I would also recommend Shotgun Stories, which is the debut film from director Jeff Nichols.
  9. It's "paloffs or burst". Kaepernick is a delta bravo. I say we keep this thing going for another week!

  11. I hope we wear Burgundy jerseys and no pants. Everything is better without pants.
  12. Let's not kid ourselves, the Ravens are a good football team. We will need to play a great game to beat them. I felt like we needed to get to 9-7 to make the paloffs. I still feel that way, despite Seattle winning yesterday. And I'm not totally sold on the Bears being a lock for the other Wild Card. However, I didn't see any plausible scenario where we could lose tonight and win out. I think we can lose to the Ravens and win our last three, but right now I'm in the "i don't give a ****" club, because of our win tonight. It was glorious.
