The Chase trade still remains a no-brainer. Chase can dance during the pre-game walk out ceremonies all he wants, but the fact is, the dude was the #2 overall pick and he's now barely playing 45% of the snaps on defense.  With Sweat I understand more of the argument that he is being productive in Chicago, but I look at that situation as more of a value judgement.  Sweat is now being paid like he is an elite premier pass rusher and while he's been good with the Bears, I don't think he's been nearly as good as the contract he got, but I have nothing against either guy and wish them both well.

If Sweat can keep up the consistency at or near the tear he's been on since getting to Chicago, then he's flirting with All-Pro.  Now, will he come back and do this next year and beyond, who knows.  They paid him like he will.

But with already paying Allen and Payne, to sink another top dollar contract was probably unreasonable.  They were never gonna do 4 out of 4, but even 3 out of 4 on the DL getting paid was gonna be tough to manage.

You mean the Trey Smith that's been starting for the Chiefs the past 2 years a RG? 🤢

Is he good though?  Legitimate question cuz I dont follow Chiefs OL play like that. I just know Andrew Wylie started there for a long time.  lol

There are two specific things that unfolded over the past ~month to change the calculus at QB:

    1) Sam has faltered - whether you want to say his progress has stalled or regressed

    And

    2) We're crept up into a top-5 and potentially top-3 draft pick

If either of those things don't happen, we are likely rolling with Sam for 2024. But since they both happened, the median outcome is now likely drafting a QB in the first round. With that in mind, if we win a game or two and slide in the draft order, we're probably back to building around Sam until he proves he's not the guy. But I think we're pretty much at the point where a top-5 pick means we're getting a QB unless the new regime is cold on all the top prospects coming out.

I can only imagine how hard it gonna be for Howell if they win one of these and pick 8th or something instead of 3rd or 4th.  They'd have to pray Daniels drops to them or just bag QB altogether and stick with Howell.  Cuz Williams and Maye will be top 3, if not top 2.

If we draft a new QB, don't adequately improve the O-Line because we devoted our best resources to drafting a QB, and then break our QB for the 2nd year in a row because of the not-adequately improved O-Line, what advantage did we get by not punting on QB?

Getting the QB in the building is half the battle.

With 4 other picks in the top 100 and a ton of cap space, I'm not worried about their ability to improve the OL if they commit to doing it.  OL is not like QB, every draft produces a bunch of decent OL. Same can't be said for QB.

At this point, the question is do we devote resources to hunting for "the guy", or is Howell enough of a player that it can be punted for a year while trying to fix what we have just witnessed destroying "a guy's" chance to be "the guy"? I'll just trust that whoever it is that's picked as GM doesn't suck, but if it were my choice, I'd still need to see more failure from Sam and more certainty in our draft position for me to say that we need to gamble our first pick on a QB that can easily be broken as quickly as Howell has.

Punting on QB is never the move.

Yeah that doesn't seem like it should be allowable. I wonder if the players union will have a problem with it? Edit..or small market owners who rely on luxury tax teams to assist.

It's in the CBA, so the MLBPA had a hand in it.

Achane was single covered by Davis and was also wide open. Literally two guys wide open downfield because we play single man coverage against the two fastest players in the league. What a joke.

I can only imagine the panic Curl had standing back there waiting for the ball to be snapped.  lol

Oh you’re not gonna like this

Moses contract with Ravens: 3 years, $15 million

Wylie contract with us: 3 years, $24 million

They didn't let Moses go and replace him with Wylie though.  Moses went to the Jets first.

Watch Kurls initial move on that play. He is so overrated.

If he's doing his assignment that's on the coach.  It's a cover 1, so he's got the entire deep 3rd by himself with burners all over the field.  Good luck with that.  And not from nothing, they've got Davis lined up on Achane on the outside, which was the side he was shaded to, with Waddle also over there.  Somebody was scoring on that play no matter what.

You never spend a draft pick on a long snapper!  RR and Co. did.  You sign them as free agents and a cheaper price.  That's all we need to know about RR and Co.

They technically spent multiple picks cuz they traded up to get him.  Genius.
