  1. Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. It wasn't bad, but it was oddly kinda dull. And it's not that there's not action and stuff happening, it's just that I didnt care.  But I will concede, some of it might be that my enthusiasm for Indiana Jones is basically non-existent in 2024.  And I loved the first 3, but I wasn't clamoring for #5.

And not to be ageist, but Ford is just too damn old for this stuff.  Some scenes he doesn't seem so old, but then others, he looks every bit of 80-something.

Eventually one the MCU movies has to acknowledge the giant frozen Celestial in the ocean (from the Eternals) right? 😆

    Spoiler

Unconfirmed plot rumor, so take with a grain of salt, but Captain America 4 is supposed to address it some way.  Like a bunch of countries figuring out this giant Celestial has resources that can be exploited. I'd heard it's where they're gonna introduce adamantium into the MCU.

Three of the 1987 games were played with replacement players.

But the argument I use against the people who discount 1982 and 1987 is what the team did in the seasons either prior or following the SB. The 83 Skins followed up the Lombardi year with a 14-2 season and another SB trip. The 1986 Skins went 12-4 and to the NFCCG. A team like the 2000 Giants, who sandwiched their SB appearance with two 7-9 seasons, I think can be viewed as more fluky.

The replacement games is an asset to the resume.  You're taking these replacement players and coalescing them into a winner.  That's coaching.  And lest we forget, his replacement players beat the Cowboys who had a bunch of regulars, including the starting QB and 3 future HoFers.  On the road, at that.  It'd be like if we rolled out replacements against Dak Prescott, Micah Parsons, CeeDee Lamb, Zach Martin, et al and beat them.  Gibbs has all the hardware, but it's the stuff like that he needs to get extra credit for.

Should have never came back and teamed with Snyder.

That just enhanced his legacy, rather than detract from it, IMO.  Admittedly, it wasn't the best version of him, as there were some game passing him by, Willie Mayes stumbling in the outfield moments.  But they had 9 coaches (not counting interims) since he retired the first time and only 1 could get this team to the playoffs more than once and it was him.

  5. So word is, Steve McMichael, Devin Hester, and Julius Peppers are going in this year.  That's just what's leaked so far, so I don't know who else.  But the fact that McMichael is going in kinda burns me.  I feel bad that he has ALS, but he's not more deserving than our man Jacoby.  He probably shouldn't be in at all, if I'm being honest.  He was very good, but I don't know about Hall of Fame good.  But being on that Bears defense carries weight, i guess.

"Had a chance to talk to him today.  We're not going to be working together here."

That's a tough spot to be put in.  You get hired and then immediately get to fire everybody who remained on day 1.

Can't say his shot at running the show to drive he can be a head coach was anything less than a miserable disaster.  Now, not only is he not a head coach, he's not even an OC anymore.  But there's still a couple slots open, I guess.

First Take is talking about Kliff Kingsbury. They don't like him as the OC at all. They basically said he's not accomplished, he just knows how to schmooze. He gets promoted because of his relationship with QBs but he has never actually developed any QBs. Baker was up and down with him (and just now playing his best ball), Kyler was up and down and Caleb had a down year with him. They are saying there is a bigger argument that he held those QBs back.

Stephen A and Damien woody. Not exactly their best people.  Russo seemed to be into it though.

It's settling in for me what a great and impactful hire Peters was.  Not that I didn't think we hit a home run there from the start, but I didn't realize how important his connections around the league would already be.  The brightest minds in the game will take his call and give him advice on important decisions, and he can work with so many different people.

It feels like we built the foundation of something real this time.  Something durable.  This feels good.

And we haven't even tapped into what should probably be his biggest area of expertise yet, which is scouting.

  9. The funny thing about the Kingsbury/Williams connection is the assumption that Kingsbury automatically wants to continue coaching him.  Or that Williams is pro-Kingsbury.  I work with a whole bunch of people that are good at their jobs, doesnt mean I wanna keep working with them if I don't have to.  lol

You can want someone to be the guy, and that someone can fail to impress.

I’ve been there as a hiring manager.  Excited about a candidate on paper, meeting them and talking shop and realizing it’s not a fit.

That's true, but they were giving him an in-person 2nd interview, so I find it hard to believe he failed to impress them on Zoom.

I think this is all retroactive spin now, IMHO.  Had Ben Johnson wanted to be a head coach and come to DC, he'd be the head coach today.  He was universally identified as the top target by literally everyone with inside info.  I dont thinknit was made upnor overhyped.  So Peters did care about getting an offensive guy.  He was just open minded, doesn't mean he didn't care.  And then by the time they were spurned by Johnson, what was left as the top candidates just happened to be defensive guys.

I read something lately in a tweet from a media pundit implying that Peters will be more hands on the draft than hands off, sorry can't find it back. This is an interesting topic you brought and I hope this FO will give us a hint about the decision process.

Well, his whole background in the league is scouting, so it makes sense he would be hands on with the draft.

Quinn by all accounts is a quality candidate and loved by the players and people in the know.  He's a leader of men from all accounts.  But he's being judged cause his aging quarterback started going down hill and his oc left for greener pastures.  People qlot smarter then me in football think he's a quality candidate so I'll trust the process.

Heard all that same stuff about Rivera.

  14. If they go defensive head coach, I actually woulda liked Anthony Lynn as an OC candidate. But Kyle gave him that assistant HC title in SF, so they'd have to give him permission to leave for an OC gig. Which I don't foresee, I'm just sayin'. But maybe Peters can facilitate something. But a young, introverted type like Macdonald might need a vet coordinator, and Lynn has both coordinator and HC experience.

But in 6 years at the HC/OC level, he's had a top half of the league offense 5 times.  I like that consistency.  The only knock is there's no real history of developing a rookie QB.  He had a well seasoned vet with the Chargers.  He did make a 26 year old Tyrod Taylor with little starting experience a viable starting QB for a few years though.

  15. When I look at Dan Quinn's career, I get less and less impressed.  His first 2 years as a DC, he had the #1 defense.  Ok, cool.  But then you see that Gus Bradley was really the architect.  They were a top 5-10 defense the 2 years before Quinn before Bradley left to coach the Jags.

Then in 6 years in ATL, they were 20th or worse 4 times on defense.  The offense carried those teams.  The Dallas defense has definitely improved under him, but that doesnt give me the warm and fuzzies about being a HC again.

Aaron Glenn - For me a pre requisite of getting this job should be that the candidate is at least absolutely nailing their current coordinator role. Glenns Defence ranked 19th overall on the season. I'm sure everything we read about his leadership qualities are true but if he's going to trot out mediocre defence he will be on the hot seat sooner rather than later.

All the talent is on the offense.  They got Hutchinson, but Okudah didn't work out and there's not much else.

Yes, Quinn is loved by Dallas players. And they rewarded him by embarrassing the whole organization on wildcard weekend. Players love Jerry too. Jerry World is a circus, and spoiled players like being pampered. As for Quinn's supposed top defense, what are his numbers in 2023 against winning teams outside of our dumpster fire division. Eagles imploded and were exposed; New York is trash; and our team made every coordinator look brilliant. That's 1/3 of the schedule favoring Quinn's statistics. How did he do against Buffalo? The 49ers? The Packers? Quinn is not the guy!

He didnt help them as much as the reverse. They were not put in the best positions by their coach. Quinn called a terrible game on defense.
