  1. Not for long...I think the Braves are...

    Feeling less..

    Chipper..

    If i may?

    Baby yea!

That's cold, man. He's an icon. And the last hangover Brave from all those glory years. Yeah, its a big loss. But his replacement isn't half bad.;) Prado is likely gonna take over at third. He was hitting over .300 before he got hurt, himself. And, needless to say, he was an all star. And so was the guy that has been filling in for Prado...Omar Infante.

However, im not even gonna pretend to sit here and say its not a big loss. It is. Chipper had been tearing it up lately. Since announcing in June that he might retire next year, he was hitting .307 with a .908 OPS. And in recent weeks he had been hitting the ball better than he had all season. And he's got a good glove, too. And he has all that experience. Now he's relegated to cheerleader status. It is what it is though. The Phillies have had their share of injuries, too. And they seem to be getting healthier. Its gonna be a really interesting race, to be sure.

He was hardly the one running the show for the Braves.

    See above.

  2. Good to see a rivalry brewing with the Cardinals and Reds. Definitely good for baseball so we can get away from the Red Sox/Yankees.

Phillips is an idiot in this whole thing. And I think its only fitting that the Reds are now getting their asses handed to them.

  3. I used to like the Braves because I was in love with Dave Justice. Same reasoning that I like the Indians. But he didn't make me like the Yankees.

and yes, ironic that I just made fun of Giles bc he was a wife beater when Justice was one as well

Funny you mention Justice. IIRC, I was in attendance the first game he started for the Braves as a rookie. Pretty sure it was against the Dodgers. But I was pretty young, so don't hold me to it.

And Justice was on the only WS team the Atlanta Braves ever won ('95). Early in that World Series vs the Indians, he got on the fans because he didn't think they were being loud enough or something. Then he went out and hit a HR in Game 6 when they beat the Indians 1-0 to win the WS.

And yeah, how does he beat Halle Berry? She was/is one of the prettiest women ever. He was lucky to have ever gotten with her! What a tool.

Btw, speaking of wife-beaters, I think I once read that Bobby Cox hit his wife.:( Everyone makes mistakes, I guess.

  4. Y'know, we deserve ONE to turn out this way.

As I recall, Barry Bonds, Andy Van Slyke, Jeff King, Aramis Ramirez, Tim Wakefield, and Sid mother ****ing Bream did OK after they left.

Yeah, you guys are due for something good to happen. So are the Royals. The Orioles, etc. It will eventually happen one day. Hell, the Braves were a horrible franchise for nearly all of the 80s. Then they got Avery, Glavine, Smoltz, etc. And the rest is history. At least you never totally gave up on them.

  5. yeah yeah yeah, I know:mad:

But the Padres are so great because everyone thought they'd be in last place right now and their entire roster is like the price of Derek Jeter and A-Rod. I LOVE that. Braves were expected to do well (I think, I really don't know). We're scrappy!!

I'm just messin' with you. I actually think the Padres are a great story. Like you said, no one expected them to even come close to contending for the wildcard, much less have the best record in NL. They're probably the biggest surprise in all of baseball this year. And with their pitching, and the bats they added, they could possibly go deep in playoffs.

Btw, San Diego is one of the places I want to visit. And when I do, im definitely gonna hit up a game at Petco.

38-70, ****es. But at least we're closing in on another top draft pick that will be playing somewhere else in the bigs in 5 years.

    Hopefully another Nate McLouth. :ols:

:pfft:...We will give you Mclouth back in exchange for a rosin bag.

  6. And regardless of whether the announcers are dumb or not.... they made a dumb error...bc we all know who's #1 in the NL;)

#1 at home? Why, yes, the Braves do have the best record at home in NL. In fact, I think they have the best home record in baseball (I should probably double-check this:pfft:). And we're 4-2 vs you guys head-to-head.

I concede you guys have the best overall record 'as of now'. But that doesn't mean any more than those things I mentioned above.;)

One thing we can both agree on is that should our teams make the playoffs, we will have homefield all throughout. You can thank Brian McCann for that, btw.

  7. They didn't even have a better record at the time. Even if the Padres had lost tonight, we'd still be 62-45, which is better than 62-46. Hahaha dumb announcers.

    PADRESSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

Yeah, I said that they didn't even have a better record at the time.;) And they aren't dumb announcers, btw. Joe Simpson is pretty good. Surprisingly, though, I think he's the one that erred on the best record thing.

Braves are 4-2 vs the Padres.:)

  8. Um...no they don't.

Pads are 62-44. Braves are 62-46. Pads are gonna win tonight. 63-44. Best record.

Yeah, you're right. The Braves announcer on PTV tonite had it wrong. He said a couple times at the end of the game that the win over the Giants tonight gave us the best record in the NL. It didn't even give us the better record 'at the time' that game finished up either. Not sure what they were thinking. They usually are up to snuff with their stats too.

    I knew I should have double-checked that.:(

  9. If they can get Utlety, Howard, Werth, and Victorino hitting again, they will be very dangerous.

Victorino is on the DL, dude. And I don't think Utley has come back off of yet. And Werth, more than likely, will be dealt. If they are gonna bring up this Brown kid, there's no way they are bringing him up to sit.

  10. When the Phils get their bats back, they're winning another pennant.

I thought it was going to be the Cardinals, but the Phillies are looking crazy good.

Pump the brakes here. Teams go through ups and downs all year. The Braves started off horribly. Then couldn't hardly lose the next two months. The Mets even went through a nice hot streak. And now it seems its the Phillies' turn. I wouldn't go overboard though. And I still believe the Braves will win the East. And the Phillies will take the wildcard. Even with the addition of Oswalt, im not convinced they have more depth in their starting rotation than the Braves do. And I know they don't near as good a bullpen. But they do have Utley coming back. That can only help.

However, I will say this. Once the playoffs start they will be really set. Can't think of a better 1-3 rotation for the playoffs than what the Phillies can run out there. And they have alot of experience as well.

I just think people are overreacting though. They're already putting dirt on the Braves. Not very wise.

  11. Ok so this was brought up in the Nats thread:

Since 1993, which franchise has been more successful, the Marlins or the Braves?

Marlins-- 1,333-1,453 2 World Series Titles, 2 Playoff appearances, 6 winning seasons, 0 division titles

Braves--1,617-1,168 1 World Series Title, 11 playoff appearances, 15 winning seaons, 12 division titles

So if you go by WS wins, its the Marlins. But overall success its the Braves. So which would you rather have? A team that gets hot every few years and wins, or a team that is consistently good, but doesn't always win the big one?

Braves, easily. Anyone that says otherwise doesn't have a clue.

  12. So Chris Coghlan of the Marlins could be out awhile with a torn meniscus. The cause? Jumping to pie Wes Helms in the face after a walk-off victory.

    I give it 3 facepalms :doh::doh::doh:

Just the other day I mentioned that the pie to the face thing was one of the dumbest things in sports. Might have even been yesterday. Then I see Garza get one in the face after throwing his no hitter. Now im reading this about Coghlan lol. When is this craziness gonna end?

  13. Well, it's getting towards the now-or-never point for my Angels, who lost two big games to Texas the last two nights. If we don't win the next two games at Texas, then we're in big trouble.

I think you guys should bring back Chone Figgins.:D

Edit: You're not catching the Rangers, bro.

  14. Because Werth is set for a big payday at the end of the season. They have Dominic Brown waiting in the wings who is dominating Triple A.

By trading Werth, you won't have his huge salary, you'll have Brown's small salary. Then you can add a top tier pitcher.

Then you hope that J-Roll, Vic, and Rauuuul actually re-learn how to hit.

Doesn't matter. You're not catching the Braves, my man.;)

  15. So why are the Phillies trying to trade Werth and get Oswalt? The Phillies problems most of the season have been hitting. Their pitching is pretty solid and Hamels has been pitching well lately. They just can't score any runs, so why trade one of your best hitters?

Werth is gonna be a free agent. And they have Brown waiting in the wings. And their pitching isn't pretty solid. That's why they are trying to add another starter. Blanton has been garbage. So has Kendrick, who I think they sent down to the minors. Moyer got hurt, I think. And wasn't doing that welly, anyway. Werth has had a terrible year, too. No reason not to trade him.
