  1. We gave them Jo-Jo Reyes too thank the lord! We have been trying to trade him for about 3 years now I can't believe someone took him. Also the deal includes two top 20 Blue Jays prospects to the Braves. What a trade 0 HR shortstop for a 17 HR shortstop.

    http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=5379421

Yeah, you're right about Reyes. Can't tell you how many times I've heard the guy's name in trade talks. Can't believe the Jays were dumb enough to take him off our hands.

I wouldn't get too excited about Alex though. Pretty sure he won't keep up the HR thing. He's now gonna be playing in a pitcher's park. And he's also considerably older than Escobar. That, more than anything, is probably why im not jumping up and down over this deal. With that said, I still think it was a good move. And one that had to be made. Yunel had enough time to get his act together. A change of scenery will probably do him well. He needs to mature.

I think the Jays got a good deal getting Escobar, I've always liked him, but he's having a down year this year. Alex Gonzalez is too streaky for me.

Yeah, this is another reason im leary of this deal. But as I said above, it still had to be made.

One can only hope. That was one of the dumber decisions of all time. Selig is such a joke.

  2. MLB has about as many LEGIT MLB hitters as I can count on one hand. Even the guys who have the reputation for being "hitters": CC, Willis, Zambrano still hit to about the same OPS as Caesar Izturis, a no hit SS.

    Micah Owings, however, can hit.

Pitchers are often fantastic athletes that spend time developing their craft, not flailing in the box. Many big time hitters were once pitchers and vice versa. Many scouts thought the Orioles were foolish to have that Ripken guy swing the bat instead of pitch.

But baseball is now all about specialization. The DH, the closer, the LOOGY are all a part of the game. The game has changed and the NL has not.

Tim Hudson was an incredible hitter at Auburn. Some of the numbers he put up were mind-boggling. And he's still a pretty decent hitter in MLB, as pitchers go.

  3. WALKS SHOULD NOT COUNT!!! Ugh. So, if a pitcher throws like 20 walks in a game, the rest of the hits being pop-ups, it will be counted as a no-hitter? LAMEEEEEEEEEEEEE

I understand what you're saying (sort of). I even came on after the Jackson no-hitter and said it was probably the worst one ever thrown (because of the 8 walks). So, we're kind of on the same page. I was joking about the above comment.:)

  4. This season has been ridiculous. :ols: @ the Rays getting no-hit twice in the season already.

Heard on the radio coming home tonite that the Rays have actually been no-hit THREE times in the last calendar year!:ols:

To be fair though, the one tonite by Jackson has to be the worst no-hitter ever thrown. 8 walks and a hit batsmen? LOL He didn't really give them a CHANCE to hit! Btw, the Rays had 9 LOB. :drooley:

  5. Can't believe the Marlins fired Gonzalez. Loria is an idiot, he's had 2 good managers lately in Giradi and Gonzalez and he's gotten rid of both of them. Word is that Gonzalez could wind up with the Braves and take over for Bobby Cox next season.

I would be ok with this. Would rather have him than Pendleton. Yost would probably be my first choice though. But he's done a good job so far with KC. He will probably get extended.

  6. That kind of tiebreaker is only valid if the teams have the same record. Which they do not. ;)

But you should know by now that I'm a big Braves fan. However right now, Rangers > Braves.

Rangers will never be considered greater than the Braves until they win something.:)

This is a fluke, I think. Still think the Angels probably end up winning that division. Especially if they have more games with the Dodgers.:ols:

  7. Nothing like loading the bases down by 4 runs with the pitcher coming up. Either they strike out or try to sacrafice. I don't like a good rally snuffed out by a guy hitting .136 on the season. I'd rather have a light hitting second baseman/shortstop hitting .240. But how many times does this "strategy" come up in a game? The wave of sports is offense in this country. The DH provides offense. That's why American's for the most part are not soccer fans and Hockey has not been embraced as much as Football and Basketball. Oh, you pay the pitcher to "pitch", not hit. That's why his position is not called "hitter."

Loading the bases down? That doesn't even make sense. But oftentimes, if the bases are loaded, and the pitcher is coming up, there is likely to be a pinch-hitter. This is especially true later on in the game. And no pitcher tries to "sacrifice" with the bases loaded. Have you ever even watched baseball before?

  8. Thanks but I disagree.

Either the DH should be instituted across the league or no changes should be made. I don't think you can put the genie back in the bottle now.

Careful. We're taling about Selig here. The same guy that awarded home field in the WS to the winner of the freaking ALL STAR GAME!

  9. Make the DH optional in both leagues. Any team that wants to stick with tradition can do so, but now NL teams will be allowed to have a DH.

Horrible idea. A better idea is to make each player HIT! The DH is so freaking lame. You should have to play the field in order to bat. Only exception is a pinch-hitter.

  10. Standardize DH around league

I was listening to noted Yankee radio personality John Sterling the other day broadcast his Yankee games and he said other than the NL he didn't know of any league that didn't use the DH. He said the minors and Japan even used the DH, and he's right.

So basically the NL is the only league antiquated and out-of-touch enough to still have a guy hit whose average is FAR below the Mendoza line. Good job NL

    Hudson is hitting .286.

The NL is the only league that has it RIGHT, btw. The DH should be done away with.

  11. Of course, nothing EVER goes wrong with a leased vehicle.

I leased a couple of cars several years ago. Each one for two years. Never had a single problem with either. By "lease", I meant like a two year lease, if they still have those. Unless you're hard on the car you're not likely to run into any problems in that short time. Furthermore, if you get Honda or something like that, you're even less likely to encounter a problem. It was just a suggestion. And it beats having a beater and having to constantly repair stuff on it all the time.
