  1. Republicans are traitors to democracy

    Quote

The big question now is: Can this be reversed? Can Republicans go back to being a broadly pro-democracy party that operates within democratic constraints and accepts election defeats without inventing false claims?

There are a few ways political parties that drift toward authoritarianism can be brought back from the brink. Sadly, none of them can save the modern GOP.

Authoritarian parties can be reformed when they suffer a crushing electoral defeat. If Republicans were wiped out at the polls in 2022, there would be a decent chance the GOP would move back to a more normal center-right party. That outcome is unlikely, however, precisely because the party’s anti-democratic tactics are insulating Republican politicians from voter backlash. Already, Republican lawmakers have drawn gerrymandered maps that rig future elections in their favor. In Wisconsin, for example — a state Joe Biden narrowly won — the new maps will likely give Republicans 75 percent of the state’s seats in the House of Representatives. Even if Democrats get more votes, Republicans would win more seats.

Republicans could conceivably abandon such practices if their leaders were being pressed by their own supporters to be more democratic. Instead, we’re seeing the opposite: GOP voters want more authoritarianism. The Republican political base doesn’t just believe Trump’s lies about the 2020 election. These voters are now using those lies as a litmus test — to separate the true believers from alleged “RINOs” who believe in democracy more than they believe in Donald Trump. Candidates are responding by stating that they believe Trump’s lies as a point of pride in their campaign messaging. This trend is creating a ratcheting effect, motivating Republican candidates to establish increasingly extreme authoritarian credentials to stand out.

@Fresh8686From what I've read you generally want to harvest when the trichomes are either cloudy or amber, or somewhere in between. Is there a big difference between those two ranges as far as the potency and effect?

Yup, I prefer more stoney weed with higher levels of amber trichomes, like 25% amber and 75% cloudy. Some people say that amber is a sign of THC degrading into CBN, but I don't fully agree.

The trichomes are like fruit and the clear, cloudy, and amber stages are the steps of ripening. Clear heads offer a more cerebral high, cloudy is thought to be when you reach near peak THC thresholds, and amber is when you are either at peak or on the other side of it and beginning the slide down the degrading part of the ripening curve.

There is anywhere from a 3-14 day window where each strain has it's own optimal harvest time, but the parameters of that window are also dependent on each person's individual chemistry.

  3. My wife got a microscope

You can tell by the trichomes that these aren’t ready yet with little to no amber in sight. The trichs are more stalky than I’d like, but they do have a week and half to two weeks to mature and get bigger heads.

Whoah, I didn't realize that DC dispensaries would sell to out of state medical card carriers. I've actually been thinking about getting one in VA for a couple of conditions but it didn't seem worth it since the selection here is super limited. But now that opens up a whole new realm so I'll revisit it.

Yup, and they just increased the limit so you can get up to 8 ounces a month. I highly recommend Alt Sol as a medical brand and Capital City Care and Takoma Wellness for medical dispensaries. CCC often has the best deals and most places offer 20% off for first time buyers.

Awesome, your wife must have some magic in her voice! (not discounting your efforts for one second)...tell her I said, "You go, girl!  Give it all you got!"  Sing her ass off, and I'd love to hear it (you can send it PM, I won't share unless you say OK, I promise... but I really wanna know what she does!)

She is definitely magic and she loved what you wrote! I’ll try and record her some time, but I’ll have to do it when she doesn’t know she’s being recorded she says. She’s sharp as hell though and I’m not much for sneaking right now with my hobbly ass.

So my last day in the Navy is coming up.  I start terminal leave in a couple weeks with my official retirement date shortly after.  It’s been 20 years since I’ve had to ask but, where do you even get weed at anymore?  Do I just look for some little ****head that looks like me but 20 years younger?  All hypothetical questions of course.

You ever thought of getting a medical card? My wife and I both have one and DC has great dispensaries that accept out of state patients.

    I did say "headed for"...:ols:

I truly admire you guys...my husband was literally a genius, and in charge of the horticulture, knew every plant, flower, shrub...our yard was beautiful, he planted everything, kept it all awesome, and would have absolutely LOVED the chance to do what you're both succeeding at.

I, on the other hand, can kill a cactus. :(

@Fresh8686...that is some beautiful ****.  Y'all both have it goin' on.  Kudos.

Thanks, I appreciate it! I’m lucky to have my wife as a partner in the grow. She sings to them every night and does the watering that I can’t do right now with my handicap.

I wish your husband could have had a chance to grow these. I cherish the opportunity because I learn and grow so much as a person by taking care of these plants.

  7. @mistertim nice, I’ve heard really good things about mephisto and those strains sound pretty cool. Those NL’s might get more fragrant later on into flower. One of my favorite parts of growing is watching how the flowers and smells grow and change over time.

My girls are doing great and have 2 more weeks to go, although nana glue is really showing her fall fade and might be ready earlier. My royal Limez is still my favorite with her strawberry jam gas smell becoming a deeper and stronger gas that smells like diesel fuel and rose oil. Her morphology is amazing as well.

OK, has anyone here seen a plant like this before?  This is one of the ones I'm growing and I've never seen one with only one leaf per.  These weird modern strains are just whack.

Thats a dude plant my dude.

It’s amazing how much frost this nana glue has put on these past 2 weeks. Even the fan leaves are showing some.

Wow that's insanely frosty. When you say 5 1/2 weeks do you mean total or 5 1/2 weeks into flower (IIRC you run photos)? How much longer do you have until they're ready for harvest?

Those plants look super healthy. I think you mentioned before that you run an all organic setup right? Do you make your own super soil? Make compost teas? I'm currently running Fox Farm Ocean Forest so it's organic for now but I'll probably need to start adding some extra non-organic nutes once they get a bit more into flower, though I'd like to learn how to make my own amendments and teas at some point.

Thanks and yea these are photos and I meant 5-1/2 weeks of flower. I’ll be harvesting around week 9-10 depending on when the trichomes ripen to how I want.

I’m doing all organic and I mixed my own soil at first with the recipe I posted a couple pages back. However, I’ve got bad nerve damage and mixing my batches was making my seizures worse so I bought some build a soil organic mix for when I up-potted to 5 gallons and top-dressed in week 4.

For that same reason I’m using a couple of things from the nectar of the gods line as a substitute for teas. They are nearly 100% organic with a couple products having very small trace amounts of a calcium based salt. However, just a caution, I don’t use their Bloom Khaos because I worry about the trace amounts of arsenic in the potash per their msds report.

Flowering has been a breeze with hardly any issues at all. We’ve just been watering once a week till now, but that’s changing as they kick into gear and chunk up.

  10. Anyone else feel like this country is ****ed as a functional democracy after 2024? The wife and I are making plans to leave the country if the Republicans win the presidency again. The first tweet below doesn’t even factor in the rising authoritarianism of the GOP.

I noticed in your pics that you're doing a scrog setup. I just starting doing some LST on mine (just bending and tying down) but I was curious whether it's possible to do a scrog with autos or is it mostly for photos so you can give them plenty of time in veg to grow into the screen?

You can definitely use a scrog for autos if they are the kind that will stretch during growth. The trouble is knowing when they will all do so and how much stretch will occur.

I didn’t put my trellis in until week 2 of flower and my main reason for doing so was to weave nana glues branches under the trellis to widen her canopy and slow her down from growing too close to the light.

Depending on how the rest of the girls continue to stretch I’ll be lowering the trellis further so I can get the added benefit of the trellis supporting the thinner branches so they don’t fall over when they get heavy with big chunky buds.

Oh nice. I'm actually thinking of doing a Zkittlez in my next run. Are they pretty easy to grow? I only have room for 2-3 so I'm thinking maybe a Zkittlez and either a Gorilla Glue or a Skywalker OG.

Yea, she’s been super easy to grow so far. I haven’t grown out pure Zkittlez but she definitely has added something nice to both of the crosses I’m working here and those have both been sexually stable, PM resistant, and vigorous.

My nana glue has been stupid vigorous but one of the lower branches showed some intersex traits. That could be from the bbc side of things though. It’s not too big of a deal of you catch it, but it’s something to watch out for.

I’ve got some skywalker crosses I’ve heard great things about. I’ll be growing those out next year so I’ll be interested to see how you like those if you give them a run.

Those are some damn good looking plants, @Fresh8686

You probably mentoined this before, but what strain are you growing there?

    Thanks!

The first two pics are of Lemon Zkittlez (Lemon Party x Zkittlez) and it smells like bright lemon and yellow starburst.

The third pic is Royal Limez (Zkittlez/Black Lime Reserve x Royal Kush) and actually smells like strawberry jam and gasoline.

The 4th and 5th pics are Nana Glue (GG4 x Banana Butter Cups) and has a dank and subtle chocolate aroma.

The 6th and 7th pics are MendoPurple 3.5 (Mendo Purple x Purple Urkle) and it’s got a candy grape aroma. If you look close you can see the beginning of purple bud starting to grow in the flower.

The other two pics are shots of Lemon and Mendo. My two favorite so far are the Royal Limez and Lemon Zkittlez.

  14. Regulating potency by thc % is so ignorant. More often than not the best and most heavy hitting strains are in the low 20’s and it’s the entourage effect of everything blending together with personal chemistry that gets you stuck. Plus, thc % varies from cola to cola on the same damn plant, let alone from one phenotype to the next of the same strain.

Anyways, my girls are finally starting their first day of flower. It’s a freaking jungle in the grow tent right now. My nana glue is already 3 feet tall and if it doubles in height these first two weeks she’s gonna end up pressing against the light. All my plants were already showing their terp characteristics in Veg so it’s gonna get super fragrant soon and my nana glue is going to be extremely resinous. When I do a stem rub on her my fingers stick together and come out smelling like gassy chocolate and dank chlorophyll.

  15. One thing I think about for perspective and humility is how long and how much energy it took for earth to form and generate atmosphere and life in growing thresholds of complexity.

“Around 4.53 Billion years ago and around 40 million years after the solar system formed, a large body collided with the proto-Earth, causing the formation of the Moon and vaporizing magma on both bodies. After the collision, Earth cooled rapidly. Two million years later, it had an atmosphere of rock vapor and water vapor. Forty million to 600 million years after the solar system formed, Earth had water and a crust, and was ready for life. We know this because geologists have found rocks that are 4.3 billion years old and include minerals that required abundant water to form.”

Life is patient as **** and way more hard working than humans can fathom. For all the collective ****iness we currently show, if we fail as a species our physical elements will reconstitute over untold years and try again.

Our elements are billions of years old and have taken on so many shapes. Once you can feel your core that goes beyond identity and story and is just pure life there is a small bit of solace in the prospect of bridging the unknown divide and forming enough of a threshold in life complexity to once again experience a similar level of consciousness.

Ive faced death quite a few times from guns in my face to car wrecks to drugs to prison and I’ve been crippled and wished for death many times because of torturous pain. I don’t plan on dying any time soon and I still have a physical fear of the actual moment, but I feel good as hell about everything after because of all the spiritual experiences I’ve had and keep having.  After going through my fears of the abyss and finding an unending love on the other side that actually accepts me all the way down to my soul, I feel so deeply at peace with my devotion to infinitely pushing life and love forward across an ever changing landscape of consciousness.
