What I've seen when watching cutups of Daniels, and you can see in these clips, is that the vast majority of the time the LSU passing game seemed to consist of:

    1. Get Nabers or Thomas 1 on 1

    2. Throw to whoever got the 1 on 1

    3. If that fails, Daniels runs

In the clip above you can only see one or two throws where he seems to have more than one read. The majority of them were to his first read, and in most of those he was locked in on his guy from the moment he got the snap (though there were a couple where he seemed to look off the safety a bit).

He also rarely attacks the middle of the field compared to the boundary. This is where the whole "tight window NFL passes" concern comes into play.

Correct and I would add that if Ben Johnson is the next coach you would think he would prefer Maye because he wouldn't have to water down his playbook because of his ability to go through his progressions and attack the whole field. From what you say in this post a coach would have to taylor his playbook to Daniels skillset at least for the time period until he is more NFL ready. IE BOB Griffin/read option

It’s highly HIGHLY likely to be Mayes or Daniel’s. With the odds heavily on Mayes being the pick.

A lot can happen between now and the draft but something dramatic would have to happen for Williams not to go #1 overall and for us not to select one of Mayes or Daniel’s.

Im getting more and more set on Mayes. But what I think and $5 will just about get you a Latte.

Are you talkin bout Willy Mayes-Hayes or Drake Maye-Hayse? 😜

    So, lazy comparison time

    Caleb- Mahomes

    Maye- Herbert/Luck

    Daniels- RG3/ Lamar

I'd roll with Maye. Dudes got perfect size, can make every throw and is know to be a fast processor and hard worker. I'm sold.

And the youngest of the three. He legitimately could end up putting on 10 more pounds and be Big ben/Josh Allen size which is a bonus.

With his contract? No frikin way.

I agree that his contact is the issue for sure and would warrant the compensation I outlined.  If it came with the ability to also aquire or leverage MHJ for more draft booty it may be worth it. Just saying. That being said I think Peters will draft a QB at 2 rather than trade out and build this thing the traditional way.

I mean, I don't like looking at outliers and thinking we could do that. CJ Stroud IMO was a better prospect than any of the QBs in this draft and the reason the Texans run was talked about so much was because it hadn't been done before with a rookie QB and coach. I don't think it can easily happen again.

I am just being honest about this roster:

    • The offensive line is terrible (aside from Cosmi)
    • We don't have a #1 receiver or a receiver taller than 6'
    • We don't have an above average tight end
    • We don't have a homerun RB with speed
    • We don't have any good linebackers
    • Our defensive line is poor
    • We need serious upgrades to the DB room
    • We are likely going to lose one of our most consistent players on offense from this season (Samuels)
    • We are likely going to lose our best player in the secondary (Curl)

The draft and FA will help some of that but not every draft pick or FA acquisition will work out either

True. Nothing to dispute there when judging the current roster from an end of season perspective. But we should at least consider that it was coached by a clown that lost his locker room. The so called talent that many touted at the beginning of the season is not completely washed out IMO. I would dispute that Terry is not a #1 reciever, our D line is poor and that BRob can't hit the home run but that is semantics at this point.

I dont get why people propose these ludicrous trade offers that no team would ever make. Im fine with thinking about trading but at least be realistic and in the realm of logic and reason.

What part of that would be unrealistic? I think its pretty rich to say it beyound the realm of logic and reason. I am not proposing it is probable but we traded three 1st rounders for RG3 as one example. I was just putting out an example of what offer may move us from our 2 spot. Kyler has a contract to consider in the compensation as well.

I feel like the 3 teams most likely to try to trade up are:

    Falcons (8th pick)

    Vikings (11th pick)

    Raiders (13th pick)

If Maye comes here its very likely that both Williams and Daniels are better than him and have better records starting out. We are picking 2nd for a reason. The team stinks and has holes all around. The only reason the Bears are picking first is because the Panthers stunk even worse than we did. The Bears have a good defense, a true #1 in DJ Moore, etc. They won 7 games this year so with slightly better QB play I could see them winning 9 or 10 games easily with Williams.

With Daniels it depends on where he ends up. The Patriots are almost as terrible as we are and have no pieces so that would likely be a mess for him but anyone trading up like the Falcons or the Raiders with the pieces they have in place would be an instant playoff contender with slightly improved QB play.

That is definitely possible and an educated guess but we can see that the Texans were a success this year despite all predictions to the contrary. My stab in the dark is that I think we will all be pleasantly surprised with the team next year for the simple reason of a competent coaching staff and FO as well as the resources to address needs. Lets face it, Ron lost his team and it showed. FWIW we were considered a talented team at the beggining of the season save for O line and Linebacker question marks.

This is a bit of a tangent, but one of the reasons I think it’s very unlikely the Bears draft Maye over Williams is the risk their fanbase would riot if it’s perceived they made the Trubisky over Mahomes selection all over again. They still haven’t lived that down, and probably never will.

That’s not to say I view Maye similar to Trubisky in any way, but many lazy fans and national analysts will make the easy connection (UNC QBs) in hindsight if they draft Maye and he struggles out of the gate while Williams balls out.

I’m already seeing chatter about fears of this from many Bears fans on social media / forums, and think it would become a storm if that actually happened (which it won’t).

The reverse could also happen where Maye balls out and Caleb struggles or both could stuggle or both be great. Throw in Daniels into the equation and even a Bears fan should realize that this is as much of a crapshoot as going to Vegas. Hind sight is always 20/20.

  9. If we were to trade out of our spot we would have to do so for a proven top 15 guy. IE swap our first rounders with Arizona for Kyler and draft MHJ or trade down with the 4th pick. Easier said than done and probably not what Peters would do as it would be a win now move. The point is we need to use this potent draft position to get our QB.

Definitely doesn't look good for a former NFL HC to have twitter tantrums with former players.

True but...We are talking about a guy who was caught on camera sitting on a street after hours smoking up with a random chick while he was a coach. He definitely does things his way. LOL

Shouldn’t the new GM be scheduling the head coach interviews?

Everybody knows everybody. I would assume the nudge nudge wink wink deals are already done with the GM. They might be, but I am pretty sure they are not spit balling and have a pecific plan.

Maye actually reminds me of a somewhat more talented Daniel Jones. Big dude, good arm, mostly a pocket passer within a system but can move, however tends to lose accuracy and decision making outside of the pocket. Good at many things but nothing elite about him.

I would agree mostly from what he has shown so far, or at least from my very unqualified perch. I like the Ben Roethlisberger comp some are giving him so maybe his tools and size can translate better in the NFL as did Ben's in the pros. Beyond the prototypical size you want, the praise he does have is he is balanced, hard working and intelligent. Not the type to cry in his Mommy's arms after losing a game in front of a packed stadium or give attitude to reporters like the other guy. Seriously though I would be more than happy with Caleb but only if he fell to us. That way if he ends up being a nutbar we didn't give up more than one pick.

I disagree.  The damage was done.  Yes, he did more damage but after sustaining the injury like was saw against the Raven's, his career was over. He'd never be the same.

At the time of the Ngata hit he has a sprain in his PCL. Probably had some instability but he completely tore his ACL and LCL in the Seahawks game. The big damage wasn't done at the Ravens game unless there was an injury cover up which would have been a big NO NO.

Lamar Jackson doesn't slide, per se and he had done well.  Wiser for him to learn before his legs can bail him out.  No reason why a gifted QB can't have have someone work with Daniel's and any other QB so they can learn too.  RG3's problem was this, a freak injury.  Yes, it can happen but you run that play 100 more times his knee doesn't get hyper-extended and end his career.  He never recovered from it, even IF Shanallen had him out the rest of the year.  JMO.

    (8) redskins minute rg3 injured - YouTube

Loved seeing Kirk come in and tie it up on that clip. I dont know about the second opinion though, if he sat the remainder of the season he would have recovered. He was put back in too soon and completely tore everything. Shanny ****ed that up. IMO

So its totally believable that Maye might be viewed as #1 over Williams but not at all believable that Daniels might be #2?  In a year where Lamar Jackson is winning MVP and Baltimore is rhe best team in the NFL? Hmmm.

I think he was just pointing out there is a lot of misdirection and smokescreen action this time of year. Also the best team is yet to be decided. Stay tuned on Lamar.

I wouldn't invoke the Forbes card. That dude was 166 lbs. Ether-weight.

Even if he is not 220 like some sites say, Daniels probably will have like 40 lbs on Forbes.

He does have a lean build tho.

At any rate, at least we won't have to go through the insane "he can put on 35 lbs before the season" impossible nonsense peeps were spouting about Forbes.

I want to hope that lesson is generally understood now on a community level.

***Not calling anybody out... just snuffing future arguments.

I was half playing using the Forbes card with an attempt at humor. He is super skinny though. At 6'4 he is a long target. Not sure how many big hits he can take.

JD was 160 pounds as a freshman at ASU... I know he has put on some weight since then, but very doubtful he has added 60 pounds.  Id be shocked if he was over 200.

Agreed. His WIKI page says 220! Not a freakin chance.

Edit: it says 210 still no chance. LOL

If he adds a gew pounds he would basically be the same size as Trevor Lawrence - not too worried about his size. More worried about the way he throws his body around. He NEVER slides smh

That is true. I have a hard time believing he is 220 lbs. The scale wont lie at the combine! LOL
