  1. That's encouraging. I might actually watch ESPN again. I will definitely miss Darke and Macca. Their commentary was always good fun.
  2. Oh to be a United fan. Where a bad year is not winning a cup of some sort.
  3. Most DC sports would've been. The Wizards would be in Conference North at this point. There's really no room for a rebuild with relegation and promotion on the line.
  4. Yeah, agreed. Different environments lead to that. Drafts allow folks to feel some consolation for finishing poorly. Plus there's no relegation/promotion. It's a fairly safe environment for franchises in the States. They've all banded together to make sure the league's success. There's some of that in soccer, but not to the same extent.
  5. Championship season is over today (outside of the playoffs). Blackburn managed to stay up. What a weird and terrible season. Five managers, one of them twice. Owners getting sued by one of them for his wages. Rumors of infighting among the board. Probably will end up losing several of the key individuals in the squad that helped keep the team up, mainly Jordan Rhodes. Without him I think Rovers would've been relegated a while ago. And sad times for Roger Johnson of Wolves. Relegated 3 years in a row.
  6. Thanks for the reply, GHH. The caxirola doesn't sound nearly as bad as the vuvuzela. Maybe it'll be different en masse.
  7. Mainly as a football club, but if the history of the city has something to do with that I'm curious as well. Feel free to lay both on me.
  8. I'm trying to get a feel for the culture, so forgive me if I'm opening up a can of worms here. Not trying to be insensitive. But, I would like to understand why you feel Liverpool is constantly unjustly perceived/treated, GHH. This isn't meant as a jibe, I'm honestly curious. My google foo doesn't work for something like this. I know about Hillsborough (and in greater depth thanks to you), but is there anything else that makes you feel that way?
  9. Read a report today that Lewandowski was set to sign for Blackburn for 4 million (pounds) but the Iceland volcano cancelled the flight and the deal was cancelled. Boo-urns. Found a site that tracks the standings of all teams in the Premiership and Football League from 1889 to last year. Good to get some perspective at times. Makes me want to start a Bradford City career in FIFA, too. http://aharm.net/football-tables.html
  10. Really looking forward to the way NBC will handle the EPL. Too bad Rovers aren't up there anymore. For FIFA I use a 4-4-2 Diamond Wide (or a 4-1-2-1-2 in FIFA12) or a 4-5-1 that I customized (Attacking midfielder/forward in the hole and the wingers pressed high to attack the flanks, with two defensive midfielders, one pressed up a little bit to help in attack). I like having a defensive mid who breaks up the play and I like to attack the flanks with speed.
  11. Another manager sacked for Rovers. Appleton started off so bright and had been abysmal since the FA Cup win against Arsenal. Rovers went from 4 points off of the playoffs to 4 points off of relegation in 2 months. Back to Gary Bowyer as caretaker. This is so sad seeing such a once proud club being run like this.
  12. His gimmick was that he was a porn star and Chyna has done porn.
  13. Glad to see Blackburn playing so well in the FA Cup. Hope it transfers to the league. Also hope the luck of the draw continues!
  14. Good to see you on the soccer bandwagon, Asbury. So, the drama at Blackburn continues. Berg was sacked last week after winning only once in 10 matches. The owners keep opening their mouths as to when they'll make an appointment, and the deadline wasn't made again. The caretaker manager, Gary Bowyer, has done well as we've won both matches. In the first victory over Barnsley the fans were chanting 'No one's Blue and White Army' which I found to be hilarious. Whoever gets hired will be the fifth manager this season. Madness. I hope whoever it is, it's soon, with the transfer window now open. If Shebby Singh is really buying the players then it could be another clash incoming. More of the vets are being pushed to the fringe. Robinson benched (well not even that anymore, he'll be gone shortly I reckon), Pedersen and Dunn can't sniff the bench at times and Givet is probably gone as he's been giving the owners trouble since they've arrived.
  15. I posted that on my facebook page. Didn't see it in here. That was awesome!
  16. Rovers free falling in the Championship. Team just has no heart right now.
  17. So Blackburn finally have a new manager who sees problems on the pitch and has called the team on it. Only one match in but here's to hearing lots of chants of Henning Berg's Blue and White Army.
  18. Liverpool got screwed on that last call.
  19. Still, it was a matter of time. I understand their desire for a more long term solution in goal, but to get Lloris meant that you'd have to push Brad aside sooner rather than later. So yeah, you're probably right about AVB receiving pressure. It's impressive (I guess that's the word) the way Tottenham has stocked keepers. A mistake that both Rovers and Villa have made is thinking that Brad was done.
  20. Once they got Lloris it was only a matter of time. AVB seems to always do things his way, too.
  21. Friedel's consecutive game streak comes to an end today it seems. Nice run Brad. Reason I started following Rovers.
  22. I found this to be interesting. Here's an article from ESPN denying it, but still, it is interesting. http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story/_/id/1178898/premier-league-deny-chris-foy-demotion?cc=5901 ---------- Post added October-4th-2012 at 10:59 AM ---------- So, Kean gone and Rovers have had two draws since then. Eric Black as the interim manager and from the sounds of it he's already been better than Kean because he's been trying to shore up the defense. Played a 3-5-2, I believe (or a 5-3-2) against Nottingham Forrest for a 0-0 draw, neither side really having any bite for various reasons. Still, I find it encouraging because Black is trying new things to help the squad shore up the defense and also that the squad has earned two draws under an interim manager.
  23. Rovers beat Bristol City 5-3, two goals in stoppage time to win the match. This team is really capable in offense, but still scary weak in defense. Top of the league at the moment, though!
