"It seems there is lots of controversy with your officiating," says Serres, a tall and wry Frenchman. "Why do you think this is?"

"I think it's the mob," Norman says. "I think the refs are in cahoots with the mob."

    http://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/17372634/washington-redskins-cb-josh-norman-best-cornerback-earth-nfl

Just tucking this here for reference to see what kind of calls Norman gets for and against him this season lol.

    I loved this quote:

"He's so cold. There is no emotion or nothing,” Norman said via ESPN.com. “Horrible. He's straight horrible."

Interestingly, I saw this when I read the article yesterday (the one at the link you provided). However, when I went back to snag the quote it was gone. I found it here:

Anyone else wondering if Goodell reached out to ESPN and coldly told them to remove the quote? :rofl89:

  2. I bet than this will be the first game where we'll have a player ejected for 2 PF and that player will be Josh Norman.

Because we're the Redskins, they two don't like each others, and one of them is playing for John Mara and is a supposed great player. (with a tendancy to punch opponents and act like a diva without being noticed).

Is there any recourse we have for bringing this up in advance of the NYG games, basically stating that we are worried this might happen?

Probably not, but it is a valid concern because we know the Competition Committee is code for the "NFCE Committee to Defeat the Redskins and Cowboys."

  3. I've gotta say I like the idea of swapping crew members, IN THEORY. However, I have seen zero evidence that anything administered by NFL Management works according to plan. So, I'll go out on a limb and say this is going to be an outright disaster.

The refs are already opposed to it, probably mostly because it's a change and people generally don't like change. I also think some of them must worry about being exposed or punished via this system.

My suggestion would be rather than trying to fix the system by changing how it works, put more effort into proper training of your officials in how to call penalties consistently regardless of the teams/game situation. That would be much more valuable.

  4. You're a nice guy around here Tom, but you should tell your team to warn your OL that they are a priority, because right now, your C doesn't seem to like what he have working around him...

That's never good when the offseason starts with your C calling out teammates...

Richburg said. "Most of these people who talk about offensive line play don't know anything about offensive line play."

    He's absolutely correct.

Johnny Manziel, a freewheeling quarterback once thought to be the savior of Browns football in Cleveland, but who ended up succumbing to a litany of off-the-field problems that doomed his short tenure in the AFC North, was officially released on Friday, the Browns announced.

Almost two years ago, the Browns selected Manziel with the No. 22 overall pick in the 2014 draft, ahead of Teddy Bridgewater and Derek Carr. Both have since been named to the Pro Bowl.

  6. The Giants also have a draft to improve as well.  It isn't like they are going to rest solely on free agents.

True, but we're all laughing because we've seen similar FA sprees before and they've always ended in tears. We can't say for sure that the Gnats will fail to live up to the hype, but based on our own experiences we think there's a good chance.

  7. Glad to hear you weren't hurt on your tuck and roll adventure.

Is there any worry of a pinch-flat at 6-7 psi?

I would worry, but really only for drastic things like hopping curbs or massive potholes with sharp edges. I've had one flat so far, but it looked like a nail instead of a snakebite and came at normal pressure.

After my hybrid which topped out around 85 psi I'm still getting used to 15-20 being the goal. But I'm not complaining, especially when I can roll over a curb at full speed without popping a wheelie.

  8. I just found this thread again, and had fun reading through.

This winter in Boston was lame. Super lame!!! We only had one really snowy day (about 8 inches) and the whole area shut down. I think it was because after last winter the schools budgeted a ton of snow days and had to use some up. That in turn meant people with kids had to stay home, so businesses just decided to close. Unfortunately the roads were never covered in snow. I say unfortunately since I wanted to get the fat bike out in the deep stuff to see how it would go.

Luckily, there was one other storm where we got squalls (about 6 inches) in the afternoon. People were sent home early and I used the time to do a little daylight riding in the snow. Since we're so far east here it gets dark around 4 in the worst part of the winter, so getting out early was a treat. The fat bike handled the snow fairly well except for one incident.

I was rolling pretty fast down a very small incline on a street that is two-way but should really be one-way (lots of those around here). There were ruts in the snow from cars, but mainly just two (i.e. one car's tracks). As I picked up speed I saw pedestrians ahead in the street, walking in those ruts because people hadn't shoveled their sidewalks yet. So, as I approached I tried to go out of the rut I was in and into the deeper snow. As I did I felt the rear wheel losing traction and spinning faster. I reached the point where I knew I was going to crash, so I launched myself over the bars, tucked and rolled. It was pretty funny and definitely amused the pedestrians.

Despite that, the fat bike was really good in the snow. I think I had the tires inflated too much. I normally ride with 15-20 psi in both tires, but was advised by people more expert that 6-7 psi is best for snow. I was excited for another storm so I could try that, but alas nothing since then. Lame.

The upside is I've been biking all winter.

During the discussion of winter gear there was one thing we didn't go over. I got a pair of these from my brother in law for my birthday, and they really work well:

    revelate-34-2.jpg

They're bar mitts (or pogies). They come with special bar end plugs that serve as an anchor point for an internal strap that connects to the inside bend of each mitt. Then, you slide them over the bars, brakes and gear levers, and voila you are protected.

    Pros:

Unbelievable warmth - you can wear super-lightweight gloves

    Water and windproof

    Cons:

Not secure - you have to remove them and take with you if you plan on running errands in an urban setting

Take a bit of getting used to as far as your hands going in and out of them

If you lock up your bike outside at night like I do, the bars will be freezing; you have to warm them up a bit before you head out

Anyway, the sun is now up most of the days when I leave work and it won't be long until it's shorts and t-shirts for the commute. Here's to surviving another winter!!!

  9. I think the league rule is a bit silly, but I understand why they do it - if they didn't some teams would go absolutely crazy with lots of alternate uniforms.

I think it would be great if the league would allow teams to have three different jerseys and three different pants, which they could combine at their discretion. That would mean we could have the current home burgundy over gold, have the 80s home white over burgundy, have the throwbacks, have white on white, have burgundy over white, and even (god forbid) the Jim Zorn red and black burgundy/burgundy.

But wait, those of you who have reading comprehension skills are saying, we would need four sets of pants to do all that! Yes, but I'd work around that by finding a gold that can be used with both the regular burgundy jerseys and the throwbacks.

I'd also ditch the idiotic helmet rule. Seriously, wearing the same helmet all year long is unrealistic and unnecessary. Actually, I'd be curious to see if there are any data on efficacy of helmets' safety technology over time, as I'd imagine repeated hits to the helmet would lead to decreasing protection at some point.

    And **** Dallas!

  10. Of course not. A helmet breaks, you get a new one. That has nothing to do with the rule. The rule is meant to minimize helmet usage as much as possible. Most players do not break their helmet during the course of the season. And even if a player broke one, the lack of a throwback helmet could very well mean one less helmet being worn during the season. When a player sues the league 30 years from now, the league can say they took the highest precautions by limiting helmet usage.

I don't like the rule either, but it is what is it for the very reasons I've mentioned earlier. I'm not just making this stuff up. If it weren't valid, wouldn't we have seen the Tampa Creamsicles or the Pat Patriot helmet over the last three seasons?. Throwback unis equal jersey sales and more revenue. The NFL doesn't give up a single dollar unless they believe it could cost them more it the future.

    Pssst - it's not a rule... yet

  11. The NFL's restriction is not one style of helmet, but actual helmet.  Players can only wear one physical helmet during each season.  This why you see us wearing our regular helmets with our throwbacks, or why you don't see the Tampa or New England throwbacks any longer.  This is done completely for concussion protocol, not for ****s and giggles.

There are excpetions of course, like a player changing teams in-season or a helmet actually getting busted (yes, it happens).

Doesn't seem feasible. As I mentioned in my first post, helmets get broken fairly regularly. So if this was the rule, what are players supposed to do when one breaks? Go all Knute Rockne? Also, how could the league actually enforce that rule? Seems a bit much.

I looked it up - the Safety Committee recommends that players wear just one helmet "to help prevent concussions that can occur when helmets are not properly fitted."

That's funny because when you break a helmet and get a new one, you get fitted. I'm assuming pro teams would ensure that players get fitted for new helmets, including different helmets worn with throwbacks. Just makes sense right?

  12. If you get a concussion during the season and want to change helmets to try a "safer" (if there is such a thing) helmet, I don't think they'd stop you. For some reason, they just don't want teams to have multiple color helmets.

That's what I thought. And when I said we "had one style" I meant color and trim scheme, not helmet brand. We could always have the equipment guys swap out the brand if we didn't like what we were wearing. I'm thinking it's only a restriction on the way they look, and the restriction has nothing to do with concussion protocol.

  13. It's the NFL's risk aversion to concussion litigation.  If for some reason down the road, it is discovered that using one helmet during a season, versus multiple helmets, reduces concussion chances, then the NFL will reduce it's odds of litigation.  Totally a CYA move.

Is the rule just one helmet, or just one style of helmet?

I ask because when I played in college we had just one style, but our practice helmets weren't the game helmets. Also, helmets got broken quite often which meant you'd have more than one helmet per season, typically. So, I'm not sure this would really be about continuity in wearing the same exact helmet.

    Does anyone know for sure?
