Not to mention some of his “hits” are all pro players, not just starters.

While last year's draft generally wasn't looked at well, some of the Rivera era drafts got decent reviews.  While I'm making no assumptions, I'm hoping coaching can make a few guys take another level.

I expect decent turnover on this team, but I do hope we get more out of some of the guys that remain.  Maybe not sudden All-Pro level, but more than recent production.

Is why I’d be amazed if Johnson chooses to go there as a first time HC. Pretty sure since becoming owner there Tepper has averaged firing a coach every 2 years. The recent incident with the fan then, not to mention the belief he involved himself in picking Bryce Young suggests a Snyder-esque impulsivity and meddling, which again I can’t imagine to be reassuring to any potential candidate regardless of financial incentives.

Well then,  Johnson could sign a10yr/120 mill deal that quickly becomes 2yr/60mill per if he gets the contract guaranteed.   Lol

I think we have a shot at trading back from one of the 2nds like 10 spots since the 1st is highly unlikely.   My thought was we'd get a 3rd, but maybe we should do several trades and stockpile 5ths.  Haha

What other options could there be?

Hard to believe we are the first stop and top choice. Guys that were turning other clubs down are lining up at Harris's house to get in on this.

    What a change.

Honestly, I'm not really sure how to react.  This is amazing and my body/mind is so confused right now.

    What a change indeed.

They can still win the division. Why would they be resting guys ??

    IDK, just what I'm seeing.

They likely don't expect Commanders to put up a good fight and are weighing the risk for this game.  For a team that has lost 4 of 5, that reduced hope could be enough to give the Giants more of a chance than the stat sheet comparison would suggest.

edit: seeing the veterans not playing talk above, once inactive lists are made official for the Commanders, that could cause the Eagles to sit more.  It would be interesting to see how they play it.

If we beat the Cowboys(I know it sounds impossible to do I know) but if we do and the Giants lose would they pick before us? I can't see the Giants beating the Eagles.

With current SoS that would be the case.

In that scenario it's really important that the Giants also win though. I don't want them be at #3 and pick Williams/Maye/MHJ/Daniels without having to pay for it.

Eagles talking about resting guys, I think that could give the Giants a chance.  I'll add them to the winner wish list.

SOS can’t change in week 18 right? Since those are all division games? I mean, if you win or lose, that affects it a little bit, but is irrelevant because the win or loss affects your draft position more than the SOS.

I guess what I’m saying is if we are ahead of New England after next week, we will stay ahead of them unless we beat the Cowboys, right?

The SoS is against all opponents.  So if we have 4 uncommon opponents.  The 2 commanders played win week 18 and the Patriots both lose,  their SoS drops and they likely get the tiebreaker.

This is being discussed as nausea in the Draft Pick thread.

Basixally need Pats to win 2 more. SOS is gonna be tough to overcome on tie break. Also cards need to win 1 more. That would get us to #2. More likely we pick 3/4. Still in play for Daniels at either pick assuming Williams Maye go 1-2 and we either leap the Cards or they take Harrison at 3.

    Ad nauseum.

But since all threads will die in QB talk until we have a slam dunk,  this is a fantastic auto correct.

Nothing to do with being "cash poor." Don';t know where that factors into anything.

Making a June 1 cut only benefits you by having more space in year 1, at the expense of cap in year 2. If you're sacrificing 2025 cap to have a little more space to sign players in 2024, with the current state of this team, then you are engaging in the exact short-term "damn the future" thinking that was the hallmark of Dan Snyder's roster building philosophy.

June 1st cuts shift savings into year one, but nothing is available until June 1st, so it doesn't help during main spending phase of free agency 2024.  It can offer more cap flexibility during the season or be useful for extensions later in the summer for current players.  Then anything left over in 2024 still rolls over to 2025.  Ultimately, I don't think it makes much of a "damn the future" approach due to the timing of things.

The Patriots may not need to win 2 more games. We may just need them to beat the Jets. But we should be rooting for the NFC East to lose games while the AFC East win games. This would lower our SOS and boost the Patriots SOS. I’m not sure who we need to root for otherwise. I can look further into the Patriots SOS to see what opponents they have who we can root for to boost their SOS. Looks like something as simple as the Steelers beating the Seahawks could flip SOS to our advantage (we played Seattle, they played Pittsburgh).

So it’ll really be a week by week update. Root for Saints, Steelers, Colts, Raiders, Broncos, Chiefs, Chargers … there may be a few more. Plus the obvious of rooting for the AFC East to win and NFC East to lose. There is a path to us having a lower SOS if we both have 4 wins. But easiest path is hoping the Pats win 2 more games. And we need the Cards to beat the Bears, which is their only winnable game on paper.

If Pats/Cards win one each,  we'd pick 2nd in the 2nd round if your scenario doesn't quite come true here.

With Carolina picking for the first time,  I see them picking need,  which should give us a  borderline 1st round player,  or make a solid trade option if we stay put in Round 1.
