Dan doesn't get it... there could be nuclear warheads heading to the US and the story of him finally being purged will resurrect more quickly than Lazarus!!!
We'll throw a bunker parade if we must! On zoom! Walkie-talkies! Tin-cans on a string!
Whatever/However/Whenever you go Dan, we're going to celebrate!

We're all Commanders fans and many orioles fans. You think you're the only one with the bad juju? Haha

It's not disingenuous. You have to be able to tell the difference and how these two contracts will affect their teams differently over the next few years.
Eagles- Great deal
Giants- Bad deal.
So one more note.
I agree the jones contract is bad, but some of this is just situation.
Jones was a first round pick and didn't get the 5th option picked up. As soon as he played well enough to stay, his year one was looking at a franchise tag level year one.
Hurts was a 2nd round pick and this year was going to be super cheap no matter what. He played well before they had to decide on tag and by rewarding him early the leverage was slightly better for them.
Fully agree that the Eagles did better, but other than enjoying the giants getting **** on, I don't think its really a apples to apples comparison.

How is this even legal? Why is the $255 million extension not counted in these numbers???
So the Guaranteed is like 180mill and it was a 5 year extension, so 6 years overall. The average guaranteed then is 30 mill per. Add in a few void years and these numbers looking good the first 4 years make sense.
If year 5 he's still playing well, they convert some of the non guaranteed 70 million into bonus again it will be worse then this first 4 year numbers, but probably not terrible.
11 hours ago, Voice_of_Reason said:I’m pretty sure the max for void years is 2.
You also have to be careful with voidable years. If you cut/trade the player, the whole thing accelerates to the current year.
Eventually, your cap is going to see all of the guaranteed money.
I thought we saw some teams do deals with 3 years, but I can't remember now.
Edit:
2 links. Obj had 4 years void. Reasons in link below.
Based on this hurts does not have void years, however by triggering bonuses over several years, maybe that counts as new money and voidable years can be added. Don't have time to search this one right now. Since the quote below says years left, a bonus in year 3 likely means that can have voided years added.
https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2023/04/12/inside-the-obj-deal/
Since a bonus can be prorated over a maximum of five seasons, the highest number of void years that can be added to a contract is five minus the number of years left on the contract the player is currently on.

Since extension, this covers 6 years of contract and the original year 1 would have been 4 mill. To still get these numbers I feel like there needs to be void years as well. They have definitely done a good job giving themselves a window here that they have (likely) strong QB play and not burying the team.
There is enough guaranteed, that there will be at least a few years with big numbers OR maybe a few moderately big years where he isn't slated to be on the team without a restructure/extension. Although at that point, they would have already had Hurts for 8-10 years and may be the best time to go back to the rookie QB deal to compensate.

"Commanders" was 100% a Dan/Rivera selection. Honestly, Dan probably had it in mind as a top option ten years ago lmao.
I agree with part 1. Dan having a semblance of a plan in place, let alone 10 years, not so much. The WFT placeholder was a combination of pressure and no plan.

Can I make a request? Could we table the name speculation/discussion until after a new owner is announced? Or create a separate renaming thread? It all wild guesswork and we’ve been over it for 4 years. It’s exhausting. And irrelevant, at least for now.
You say that like most of this thread isn't exhausting and irrelevant.

He did not say trying. His inclusion is pretty much a foregone conclusion. The question is how much control will he have over football decisions?
Yes there is every reason to believe RG3 because he put his name on it. There is no speculation. It was as matter of fact interview as Magic’s stating they have a bid.
Doesn’t really matter because they won’t win but still.
Just like he put his name on a book?
Just like he talked about coming back to play qb?
Yup, it's a sealed deal because rg3 went on the radio to talk about himself. There is no reason to believe him. You just choose to, so you can push your version of the truth.

What ever happened to that book RG the third was writing about his biggest fan, Dan?
It was such a masterpiece of the politics of Washington, it can only be talked about in the Tailgate.

Forgot who said it, but one of the ones covering the sale does not think RG3 ends up a minority partner.
I feel like RGIII said he was in talks and that interview said he was trying basically no one else confirmed any level of mutual interest). It is indeed a large difference from reportedly being included. No reason to believe RGIII.

they are up this year. they might not qualify for 2024 -- if I recall a playoff appearance rules you out, ditto a new coaching staff. I think there is a good chance they are either in the playoffs or if not we get a new coach. So the odds are slim they qualify for 2024.
Actually on 2nd thought, that's the teams can't be forced to be on the show. I guess they can always solicit the show.
That's fair, as mentioned I'm not a hard knocks guy either way. I feel like if the goal is rejuvenation, changes need to be there first. Maybe Dan gone is enough to change the vibe, but we can't even get that locked down just yet either.

He alluded to basically saying with Dan around this team wasn't going to get nice things everything being equal. You have to pay a Snyder tax to lure players here and some players didn't want to come at all. He said they were unlikley going to host the draft with Snyder around but with him gone that might open up.
Connecting the dots between Keim and Standig it feels like the powers that be want to show hey the wicked witch is dead -- this isn't a bad destination anymore and want to showcase that to the league.
I'm not a Hard Knocks guy, but the draft being local would be nice things.
I'm assuming Hard Knocks for 2024? Several fixes won't be a light switch and I think it would be good to show the changes vs confirm the horrors. Haha

I knew this guy named Tommy whos dad owned a brake shoe company, when his dad passed away Tommy took over despite not knowing anything about the business, yet that turned out pretty good in the end.

My in-laws live near this place and every time I drive passed the sign I think they should add a fake sign for brake pads coming soon.

The Junks need to shut it with that garbage they pulled this week.
I have to admit this begging has tanked my confidence that Bezos wants the team
Perhaps, although Bezos might very well have been waiting for the beg to get the ultimate FU. I think it's still an option and Bezos wasn't going to let Dan take the upper hand. Still TBD, but this just makes Dan look like a loser either way.

The Junkies just made me laugh with this one. They've dubbed this jackass "GRASParino."
Would it surprise any one if it turned out this guy was a total scumbag?
I think most media negotiations have someone pumping the sale and some news that helps the buyers. This guy just sided with the dumb seller. It may have been a bad side to pick, but ultimately I think he simply helped out the dumb seller that can't negotiate his way out of a plastic bag.

When Bezos buys the team I will be vindicated if he doesn’t I will have been completely wrong. It’s pretty binary. We will know soon.I am also going against the conventional wisdom of most experts who cover the team. So seemingly the odds are against me.
Getting to the right answer using wrong assumptions makes you lucky not smart. Being 'vindicated' when people agree it's one possible outcomes, but isn't set in stone to others is just a silly statement. I don't think the odds are for or against you. We don't know what Bezos is thinking, despite what you assume. But I still think it's a very possible outcome.
You've picked 1 side of a coin flip and decided you know which way it'll flip. I've yet to see anyone say it can't/won't fall that way. All you've really set up is a way to continue to be insufferable saying you're 'vindicated' or quietly disappear for a bit after the dust settles.
