  1. That was a crazy fight. Also changed my view on elbows-at first I wanted elbows to the head out of MMA & was willing to give an exception to standing elbows to the head. Not after that fight, Brown got off some nasty standing elbow strikes to the head. Now I'd like to see no elbows to the head at all in MMA, elbows to the body are ok, even the current banned 12-6 version would be fine, except to the head. Not trying to take anything away from Brown, he didn't break any rule while fighting & fought great, took away what Silva had success with & didn't look back, I just dont like elbows to the head anymore.
  2. Think it might be time for the UFC to start thinking of open the Bones Jones 225lb division. I am still convinced after Gus that Jones is a really good fighter, but his reach plays a huge role in his success vs his competition. It's been posted here recently, Jones is too big for 205 sans Gus, but not strong enough for the top of the HW division. 225 would be like HW lite, & allow other big 205'ers a chance to not cut as much weight & possibly be better prepared to fight. I think one of the first guys to join him at 225 would be Rumble.
  3. Yeah, especially now with Andy & GSP on the shelf. Just a thought, Silva & Georges = the UFC version of Magic & Bird in the sense they weren't the first stars, but the stars that helped them grow the most in their time with the organization. That may make Jones the Jordan of the UFC but that's not where I was going. Not watching tonight, following a feed, sounds like Glover wouldn't mind the Pride no-elbow rule tonight.
  4. The beating Browne took from Werdum hurts the UFC the most. Now Browne needs 3 big wins to get a title shot, and they are quickly running out of contenders after rushing the Cain JDS trilogy. Who fights for the title after Werdum? Even if he wins & you give Cain an immediate rematch, HW is pretty barren at the top. Maybe sandwich JDS in there, but you only get 1 more fight out if that mix. They need a HW to distinguish themselves from the pack by the end of the year if not sooner.
  5. Yeah, I would never fight a Quebec guy in Quebec, even as a Canadian, even Rory McDonald would be at a disadvantage fighting a Quebec fighter in their home. Noke needed a finish to get of there with a win. To be fair, judges in Toronto, Vancouver or Halifax will be pro Canadian, but not nearly as blantaly biased as Quebec judges for Quebec fighters.
  6. TUF Edgar Penn is on following Kennedys boring win. Spoiler Alert: I can't see Nordine Taleb winning his middleweight fight to get in the house. He was on the TUF Nations show, and just fought on the card airing before this episode. Knowing the episode was taped earlier, why would they let a guy who got into the house fight on a card? Bet your "friends" big on whoever fights Taleb to get in the house, make a killing.
  7. Jimmo & Noons get KO wins. Got hone early today to meet a contractor for a quote, flipped on the TV & saw ALL the prelims, even the fight pass fights thanks to the Canadian Sportsnet UFC deal. They even showed Nog Nelson, but only live, no primerime replay. 1st of 5 Canadian events this year in Quebec City, about 150 miles northeast of Montreal that has 300year old fort walls surrounding the city center, or centre as us Canadians like to say.
  8. Well looks like he's done. The Captain America movie he's in is out in April 4th, guess he won't be walking the red carpet for that premiere. Get well soon Georges.
  9. Neither do I, unless they match him with Vitor in some sketchy country like Belize. If they fight anywhere with a TRT ban, it would have to be a catchweight to allow for the 15 extra pounds of man boobs each guy will be carrying. Here's a question: who's more likely to fill out their remaining contracts, Hendo with 6 or Anderson Silva with 8?
  10. Yeah, & I could see Johny getting cut after the fight even if he won had he not made weight. Speaking of getting cut, if it weren't for the threat if WSOF or Bellator, I'd say Sheilds would be in danger of getting Fitch'd-or Smoke Break'd- if he didnt put on a great fight. Not many cuts lately in the UFC lately (besides Thiago) & I think the other 2's actions of late is one of the reasons why.
  11. Has 2 hours to make weight & I'd imagine he'd take all the time he could. Weigh ins started at 5pm Dallas time, which would put Johnny up around 5:30pm so he will have til 7:30pm Dallas time to make weight. I know why Hendricks is the favorite in this fight, but 3-1? I'll take Lawler and the +300 that comes with him. EDIT: those times are Eastern time. So in about 40 minutes we'll know what his final weighing amount is. Since it is a title fight he has to be 170 or less.
  12. Didn't think he was that old, though they said 31 at the tale of the tape. Either way, he's a more skilled wrecking machine than Glover is what I'm saying. He relies on his striking, but he has more than 1 set up for his power shots. I could see him ruining title shot runs for a few guys with a quick KO.
  13. Gus finished Jimi in the 2nd with a flurry after a few wicked shots from Jimi after a stop from an eye poke(Jimi's eye). Gus outboxed Jones, but Jimi outboxed Gus for a minute, then got sloppy backing out & got caught with a knee, then uppercut sealed it. Think a counter right hook that caught Jimi as he was changing levels might have got him off his game & caused the sloppy retreat. He was never out, but he fell limp to the ground & ref had to stop it. Great win by Gus, but Jimi is a scary & dangerous man. Too big a step up in competition for Jimi, but he could be a force in LHW for years to come- I could see him beating a lot of top ranked LHW right now.
  14. Gus might have not liked the first punch from Jimi, took him down in the first & latest on him for most of the round. Then, during a scramble from getting up after that, Gus tried to take Jimi's back when they where both hunched over-Gus throws the long leg over, but Jimi caught it & threw the leg back. Dude has crazy strength though. Round 1 Gus.
  15. Just flipping channels, & the fight pass only card is on TV here in Canada on Sportsnet360. Missed the first 2 Fights on the main card, watching Johnson Guillard now. I like surprises like this, really want to see Gus vs Jimi. It's weird with a British ring announcer, play by play and Dan Hardy on colour. Not saying it's bad, just different, & unusual.
  16. And why us everyone forgetting the guy who once said "I need it (TRT) to live."-American Gangster Chael Sonnen? That's probably why he moved the fight to Brazil, Thought this was coming & wanted to go to a place where an athletic commission would not deny him the drugs he needs to live. Weidman by TKO round 2, it's all but assured now, I'm just picturing Vitor shriveling up like a raisin without it, weighing in at 140 with weights in his pockets & steel toe boots on, hunched over like an 80 year old man. BTW, good on ya Nevada.
  17. That's because even your BJJ virgins have figured out ways to not get taken down, or find ways to get to the cage when they do get taken down so they can get up easier. Can't remember if it was this card or the last FN, but I saw a dude get taken down in the middle if the ring and crawl backwards on his hands for like 6 paces until he got to the fence, didn't even try any offense, guard, or escape/switch, he just wanted to get to that fence. Pretty hard to use BJJ on guys who lack experience with itwhen they all have learned to sprawl, wall walk and keep BJJ'ers at a distance on the feet. It's the evolution of the sport, what once was dominant now is well defended, time for a Gracie to think of some new octagon specific techniques, or another martial art will take prevalence to counter what's prevalent now. I'm hoping for more Dutch kickboxing style, good combinations with body shots, too much head hunting in MMA right now with punches. On a side note, didn't want to pay for 170, so I went to a Casino to play poker & watch. Cromier hadn't made it to his prep area outside the ring when I go for a smoke, thinking even if DC kills the guy, I'll still make it back for at least a replay. I get back to my seat, the tv screen is a stock empty arena with blue lights, what the PPV's use for a time filler-from the time DC enters the ring until they where done the highlights was less than 6 minutes. Was it that bad of a beating? Like you can't find anything nice to say about Cummins or his performance?
  18. True Detective. Check out the thread on here to see the praise it's getting. Matthew Mcconghey & woody Harrelson star as Louisiana State murder detectives paired in 1995 to investigate a murder where the victim was left posed & decorated. Cut to 2012, two other detectives are investigating a new similar murder & interview the old detectives about their old case, sounds boring but I left that vague to avoid spoilers. Only 8 episodes, 4 aired so far & the ending of each episode gets better & better. This last episode, had a 6 minute single camera tracking shot that felt like playing a mission in Grand Theft Auto, awesome film making, better than most action movie sequences all CGI'd up. Mcconaghey knocks it out the park in this one, other actors are good to great in it as well, but Matt is just killing it.
  19. Check out True Detective on HBO, great first episode, only 8 in the season, looks pretty good.
  20. Not to best a dead horse, but those gifs really show it. How can Weidman feel beating the GOAT by defending a leg kick? A reactionary defensive move slays the giant by injury, almost like having Goliath block the stone with his knee, only to have it broken in the process. Everyone, do what Weidman did at home, get in your fighting stance-orthodox or southpaw it doesn't really matter- raise your lead leg & extend your arms to brace for a high kick...like leaning in to stop a kick.... And that's what wins you the fight. Weidman might have actually done Silva a huge favor by ending him like this, nothing worse than seeing a fighter a step slower, not bring able to react the way they once did, like Chris Leben earlier tonight. Silva should lol to other things while he still has his head & most of his body left, fighting is a young mans game, not for a man close to 40 with 5 kids. I don't think the kid is better than Silva, even with 2 wins under his belt, but I could see him getting an easy 5 wins in his NE t fights. Yeah sure there is Vitor, then maybe Lyoto, Jacare, but if he beats Vitor-highly possible-he could fight Bisping, Kennedy, Chael & Dan Henderson next depending on how the cards fall. Well off to watch old Silva fights, like Irvin & Franklin I & II, can't play gran turismo 6 while this drunk, & it will be at least a year before I see Silva again, if ever. Thank you Anderson, for everything, you where more than anyone could have hoped for.
  21. That was horrible. Glad o didn't go see this one, almost did, had the money but decided not to. After the last fight, I was resigned to Silva losing again, at least had a mindset for that, but I could not have handled being in that arrna after that. Think about it, we at home heard Rogan & Goldberg, in the arena , you would have heard Silva's screams, nothing could prepare me for that. Sad to seeSilva go out like that, but I think we will see Silva Wiedman 3 in 2015 after a tune up fight. No fighter wants to go out like that, especially Silva, even with an almost impossible road to recovery in front of him, I think Silva will want to "finish" his fight with Weidman, even if he loses I think Silva thinks there is unfinished business. Here's hoping he is ok. Man that couldn't have sucked worse. & now wiedman has 2 wins with asteriks over the best fighter in the world, bet he's not feeling as great as a winner would right now.
  22. Hoping for that too, then a long line of challengers so Hendricks has to wait. Then GSP could be the ultimate troll & come back when Johnny gets close to a title shot again. I liked Hendricks, love seeing a power southpaw, but hearing him whine after the GSP fight really changed my opinion about him. Robbie by uppercut KO!
  23. & while he might not be a PPV draw, Jose Aldo. I say that because it is summer in brazil now aka motorcycle season & there is a chance he pulls out of that SB weekend fight with Lamas. Glad to see GSP walk away now, no need to hurt yourself by not being all there in the cage. I believe him when he says he will fight again, but I'm thinking 2015 at the earliest, probably 2016. The UFC can basically kiss their PPV business from Quebec (10 mill+ population) goodbye, & won't sell out in Montreal until GSP's return. even a Rory title match might not draw; Quebec loves to see Quebec guys fight, an almost nationalist type of pride, but its Quebec pride not Canadian pride.
  24. This is by far not the worst decision in UFC history. In round 1,GSP had a submission attempt and narrowly beat hendricks in significant strikes 19-18. Not much, but in the 10 point must system, it's all you need. (10-10 needs to be scored more, but that's for another post) In fact, even though Big Rig landed more total significant strikes, GSP still managed to beat him in individual round sig strikes, 3 to 2. Now Johnny had the round with the biggest differential by far, & maybe you can argue 10-8 for that round, but it's not total damage, it's who wins more rounds. As for Dana's rant about the judges, the guy is trying to sell a rematch, it's his job. What other option was there for GSP to fight after this one? Before the fight, Dana, Lorenzo, both fighters & their camps not only approved of the judges, but all went out of their way to say that 2 of the judges where 2 of the nest in MMA-the same 2 that scored it for GSP. Dave Metzler chimed in at the post fight pressed when Dana said no media members scored it for GSP-since Dave had a list of 8 & growing at that point. Wouldn't be surprised to see his credentials pulled for the next event. It's not just me saying this, the director of FightMetric thinks it was close, far too close to be called a robbery. http://www.ctvnews.ca/mobile/sports/gsp-vs-hendricks-fightmetric-says-hendricks-more-effective-at-ufc-167-1.1551606
  25. Vitor wins the TRT battle. I'd say he looked good, but Hendo looked horrible. He looked like a drunk guy with no depth perception trying to fight. What was with the 2 fake/feel out punches that weren't close to hitting anything? Then, he finally gets in range for the 3rd punch, & gets an uppercut for his effort because he dropped his head during the 2 fakes & it was sitting out there. Normally, with that many loses in a row, I'd say a guy would be cut, but I don't think Hendo will. That's not to say I see him getting another contract - I don't think the will sign or cut him, just keep him around in case they het into a jam at 205. I could even see them throw him in vs Jones for the belt if someone gets hurt, they could sell it as he was suppose to fight Jones, but got hurt & now is his shot. What was up with Vitor & his iPhone right after the fight? I didn't even see an in cage interview, just Vitor jumping on fences & playing with his phone.
