  1. No, but combine that with the fact that Silva had a cracked rib and wanted to prove a point by beating Sonnen with BJJ, and you get what idiot fight fans think is the closest thing to a challenge for Anderson Silva. Sonnen is not that good of a fighter, if he was any good at all he would have been able to land one of the thousand or so shots he tried to take at Anderson while he was on top of him. Like most Silva opponents, he got frustrated with the fact he could not strike cleaning, so he resorted to playing patty cake on Silva's face. Look what that got him, 23 minutes of top position and a tap out, thanks for coming. After seeing what Silva did to Belfort, do you really think he could not have made a similar striking move on Sonnen? He chose not to. I don't get why people hate Silva so much, like I said before, you cannot blame him alone for some boring fights, there was another fighter in that octagon that decided not to engage Anderson, and if you don't like how he danced around the ring, I consider that a slight on the other fighter, who when given a golden opportunity to take a shot at the champ, does not jump on it. What cracks me up is people who think Sonnen, or any other wrestler for that matter, pose a problem to Silva. He has only submitted some of the best wrestlers and BJJ guys in MMA like Henderson, Lutter and Sonnen. When you beat the best at their own game, then I think that usually means you are better than them. I only see 2 guys who might stand a chance of beating Silva: Jon Jones and he still needs some time to improve or Alistair Overeem if he ever came back down to LHW. Jones needs at least 4 more fights or 2 years of training before he can even think of stepping into the ring with Anderson, and Overeem is just as much of a freak as Anderson, but due to weight and contracts, this one probably will never happen.
  2. One problem with your GSP will take down Silva theory: he has to get to Silva first. Yeah Sonnen got in there and took him down, but Anderson did not want to strike in that fight, he wanted to beat him with BJJ after Chael's Nogueria bros comment, so the idea that the Silva GSP fight will look like the Silva Sonnen fight with a better wrestler is mistaken, Silva will know that is what GSP will try and do and will counter. I predict Anderson will deliver the most devastating knockout blow to GSP as he is trying for a takedown, the kind of KO that people will not see coming. Silva will prevent it from going to the ground as much as possible, but even if he gets taken down, it's not like fighting off of his back is a problem for him. Even with having Sonnen on top of him for 5 rounds, he still had an over 63% striking defense, had Sonnen had any other fighter in that position for that long, they would be a bloddy mess with all the strikes he would have landed, but Silva can defend and attack from his back better than anyone on the planet. How does Sonnen lay on a man for 5 rounds and his face is the one that looked like he got bullied? GSP cannot and will not submit Silva, the only chance GSP has is to win 5 rounds of wrestling, and even that is not a sure thing. Freddie Roach's jab-as much as I love that guy- will provide no help for GSP, too much movement from Silva to be caught with such a simple punch (Koscheck, on the other hand, kept walking into it). All I can say about Silva is that you know you are watching greatness when a guy makes fighting look so easy. GSP is a grinder and I respect him for that, but Silva is just a pure natural.
  3. It's not fair that Anderson Silva fights in the Matrix while all of his opponents are restricted by such things as physics and reality. This guy is the king, and for all that rag on the guy for a couple of "poor" fights, well each time there was another guy in that ring who should share as much of the blame if not all of it for making them bad fights. It is clear that even the top of the UFC Middleweight cannot compete with Silva, so he should move up but he has too many friends/training partners at 205 which he said he would never fight. He did not move up to LHW earlier because he said he would never fight Machida. Now that Machida no longer has the belt, this may happen, but don't expect Silva to go through 3 or 4 guys before the title fight, he has already proven he can handle the LHW's with his few wins in the UFC. I can see him taking 1 fight vs the top contender then the title fight. GSP will get destroyed if he fights Silva. Sure he is the king of take downs, but try and get close on Silva, he will make you pay. The only guy to have any success was Sonnen, who on roids barely took down Silva who had a cracked rib. GSP can take Silva to the ground, but Silva can beat anyone on the ground from any position, one mistake by GSP, even if he has Silva pinned to the matt, and the fight is over. I want GSP to win vs Shields just so this match can happen, and I am a bigger fan of Shields than I am of boring GSP and his 5 rounds of laying on top of people. I am calling GSP will not make it out of the second round in a fight with Silva. GSP's stellar run would come to a crashing end, and Dana will be scrambling to find a headliner for all of his future Canadian dates.
  4. Everyone is talking about the Manny Mayweather fight as if it is going to happen. The only way that fight happens is if the Judge in Mayweather's most recent case replaces any punishment with a contract to box Manny. Even if this trial sucks all his money, he will take a fight with someone who he can pick apart. One question for the Mayweather crowd: how is Mayweather and his superior defense suppose to stop punches he can't see coming or from places he never would think of coming from? Everyone who has gotten into the ring with Manny says two things: he's faster than they thought, way faster, and they had trouble seeing where the punches where coming from. You can't defend what you can't see and you can only prepare yourself to take a hit if you have an idea where that punch is coming from.
  5. I am counting down the days until the "how good is Roy Halladay?" talks to start. Now that he is pitching for Philly, he might actually get noticed for being the best pitcher in baseball. I predict by mid season, baseball writers will start debating if Roy should win the NL Cy Young AND MVP. Probably won't happen, but people will be talking about it.
  6. Anyone who thinks Manny is dirty and is trying to duck a "really thorough" test is an idiot. How well has the USADA done in the past when it comes to catching cheaters? They missded Marion Jones and pretty much every other US track & field competitor from 1984 through 2004. (not say they where all dirty, but for sure not all where clean). Not to mention all the international competitors for the Atlanta & Salt Lake Olympics, who tested positive at a later date, but passed USADA tests. Floyd is just being Floyd, trying to stir stuff up and see if he can get into Manny's head, which looks to be successful so far. Floyd also knows Manny stands a good chance of beating him, and if (when) that happens, he will use the testing issue as an excuse. Manny has to take this fight in March, because if he gets elected in The Phillipines, Ithink his boxing career will be over. I think Floyd knows this as well & might use this to duck yet another fighter who could put that first L on his record.
  7. Manny is not objecting to the type of testing they do for the Olympics, its the fact that the USADA conducts random testing, which means they can test him right before the bell rings for the first round. Floyd looks stupid in this as that type of testing is not needed for a fight. Even if Manny was on something, or Floyd for that matter, no test will find it as I am sure whoever supplies them with the PED, would know how not to get caught, just like Conti did at Balco. Cheaters will always be a few steps ahead of the testers. Manny does not want blood drawn while he is training or before the fight, because he believes it makes him weaker for at least 3 days following , it might all be in his head, it might be real for him, who really knows for sure other than Manny? I think Manny has done enough for the sport that if he does not want random testing within a certian number of days before the fight, then he shouldn't have too. Manny will agree to random testing, just not so close to the fight.
  8. great fight by Manny, dumb moves by Cotto. He had no corner, and that is a problem when after the fight you admit that you could not see some punches coming, that's what your corner is for. that's why nobody threw in the towel after the 9th,10th or 11th rounds because Cotto was calling the shots and it's hard to get a boxer to say he wants to quit, even when he knows he should. As for Pacman vs PBF, Manny will be on the long list of fighters who Floyd has ducked. It would be a good fight to watch with Manny having to be the aggresor and Floyd hiding behind his shoulder as usual. I kinda hope that Floyd takes another fight, not with Mosley or any other big name, and draws crappy PPV numbers, while Manny takes on a big name and outdraws PBF, taking a lot of leverage out of Floyd's negotiations.
  9. well they used a photo from the last game the skins played vs the Patriots, and Sean was in that game (Oct 28th, 2007-wow, almost a month before he died). Unless they played a preseason game before 2007, the last time they played would have been 2003, in Washington, and the only player on the D who is still with the team now is Fred Smoot (another wow). How upset would people have been seeing Smoot wearing #21 on the web page? probably cause more of a stink than having Sean Taylor on there. Or people here would roast the Patriots for putting up a photo with Bruce Smith, Lavar or Champ Bailey on it. Personally I kinda like it, considering NFL network and other outlets go out of their way NOT to show any clips/photos with Sean. He was a very important part of this team, and just because he has passed does not mean he should be forgotten, or removed from the historical record. RIP Sean, and we all know that run stopped shortly after that picture was taken.
  10. true, Cotto might be a great boxer, and Cotto v Pacman might be a better fight than Pacman v PBF, but right now Manny & Flyod are the 2 biggest names in boxing and that fight HAS to happen. Even if PBF loses to JMM, he has to fight Manny even though JMM might want another shot at Manny first. I can't wait to see Manny put PBF on his a**.
  11. So let me get a jump on 75% of tomorrow's threads. Skins win: all burgundy for the rest of the year!!!! Skins loose: ban the all burgundy!!!!! Either way: All white vs. All burgundy stats- Campbell can't throw the deep ball with burgundy pants!!!! Portis' YPC down 45% in burgundy pants. Landry hits 95% more fatal in "all blood" burgundy.
  12. so who are the new 5 greatest redskins gonna be? my money is on AA, B to the double L, Llyod, Mike Rumph, Kenny Wright and T.J. Duckett.
