  1. Yep. I remember watching that video before somewhere, and was intrigued about strategy- do 2 guys stand close and make there way towards 2 opponents, then switch sides @ last second (think basketball pick& roll). Or does one team form a circle-backs facing in & defend the group? Nope. Smash someone as soon as you can, then jump on the next closest opponent. This can't last, the best fighter on a team would get sick of his teM every time they lost since he has to try & fight off up to 5 guys at once. How freakin awesome would it be if the last man standing knocked out all 5 opponents by himself? Probably less likely than winning the lottery & getting struck by lighting in the same day. But yeah, really stupid idea.
  2. If he took the Ward fight next, maybe. But wins over both Cotto & Canelo? He might stand a chance after getting through those 2. Then again, showtime/PBC could sign all 3 of those fighters & those fights will NEVER happen. Reason #12 to hate proboxing in the 21st century.
  3. Not much of a surprise. This is pro boxing after all. Everyone thinks an undefeated record is the key to big money. I say a good trilogy with another fighter (hopefully a W, L & D so you can sell a 4th fight) is the best way to get a big payday. Edit: lol, check out Monroe jr. Wikipedia page. List his W-L record correctly @ 19-2, but under professional boxing record it only lists the GGG fight & his last win over Bryan Vera. I'm not making this up. & his nickname is the mongoose. Ok Archie Moore. At least his dad was called the worm, haven't heard that boxing nickname in a while. I really hope Haymon's PBC fixes this for boxing. With fight fans becoming more educated in general, I don't think you can get away with "smart boxing matchmaking" anymore & expect to draw. Or at the very least, 5 tomato cans in a row max, then force the dude to fight someone who's not a 10-1 (or worse) underdog. Main card fights should be 3-1 underdog max, if not close to EVEN. I like boxing, but boxing doesn't seem to like it's fans.
  4. First time I've sat down to watch a GGG fight. Wow. Ring cutting, defense, counters & punching power in both hands? & Monroe doesn't seem like a tomato can to me, but then again I've never seen the kid fight before. Im guessing Floyd offers GGG a fight..... @ 135 lbs. with point deductions for not speaking English & no warnings for clinching.
  5. Replay is on again now-at least on the East Coast of Canada. Magny fight still had the 2 cuts in the middle of 1st round. Magny is quickly becoming a new favourite of mine. Dude won 5 UFC fights in 2014, 2nd one this year- both PON bonus winners. 10 UFC fights since feb 2013, 8-2 on a 7 fight win streak. He entered ranked 15 @ welterweight. After the win, asked to fight Rick Story-ranked 11. Magny's 10 fights-not a single guy ranked in top 15 currently, even the 2 losses. 170 is a bit deeper than 265 at least for Magny. Dude is also from Denver, so cardio should never be a problem. F-me, I think I just jinxed the guy. Would have started 7am California time. Manila= 12 hour difference East coast, 15 hour difference west coast. I think that's the same for Japan & maybe Australia & New Zeland. Gotta give Hunt his last fight in New Zeland (think he's got 3 left on contract).
  6. True, but I don't blame Faber at all. Would rather see an old fighter coast @ the end of their career as oppose to going too long and taking a beating from a sharp young kid. A 10 year 20-30 MMA fight career is long enough, good guys can maybe go 15 years/ 50 fights if they are smart & take proper care of themselves. If Aldo wins, I bet Faber will ask (& get) to fight McGregor. As long as Connor doesn't get absolutely destroyed by Aldo, a Faber McGregor non-title fight could headline a PPV if needed. It would probably sell more than Mighty Mouses last fight in Montreal (under 200k I think). If Connor does win, I think he gets Frankie if they don't do a rematch with Aldo. Now I just hope Weidman beats Belfort so Belfort's wife will STFU & let her husband retire in peace. I bet you she'll push for a Silva rematch in Brazil either way though. Belfort has been at this for 20 years. If he keeps this up, he might fight a guy born AFTER his Pro debut. Think about that for a second-ok for MLB or NBA, but for MMA-fighting the top ranked guys?
  7. Well Luke is bad on the ground-Muay Thai background. early on in the first I thought Munoz might be in trouble if Luke could keep it standing up and keep some distance, but he didn't. Mark got him down & does what he does. Nice way to end a fighting career. I love the red headed red slapping Faber's hand off the fence! Looks like a 5 round war main event!
  8. Sad to hear about Corey Hill. Thoughts & prayers go out to his family. Not good for anyone that the UFC announced his death before his family did-even if it was true. Family makes the announcement, not a former employer-bad move UFC PR department. Watching the Faber Edgar card live this morning on TV (there also is a replay later tonight). First fight I sit down to watch is Magny vs. Lim, pretty good first round. But the fight feed cut to commercial twice in the first round around the 2 minute mark. Jon Anik just apologized for technical difficulties-hopefully they fix that for the replay later today since the fight changed direction during those 2 breaks. (Magny in trouble on fence before first break, after second Magny almost has Lim's back mounted). Wow. Great fight. Won't spoil for those watching later tonight, but that is a fight worth watching. Ends in the second round. They really need to fix that for later tonight. Munoz up next.
  9. I'm pulling for Faber, but Frankie is un-knockout-able (see Grey Maynard). If Faber wins, it's a decision or a submission (other than a choke). as for sponsorship dollars, top guys go down, bottom guys go up. I think you will see more veteran fighters with good sponsorship deals jump ship to Bellator as soon as their contracts are up. Crappy thing is, the UFC has right to match for up to 6 months after the fighter contract is up so they could keep a guy in limbo like Bellator did to Alvarez. The UFC is also smart enough to prevent that info from leaking by way of a confidentiality clause to avoid the bad press.
  10. This is my point about HW. What if the winner of Browne/Arlovski beats Miocic? They get the title shot? & how long will they need to heal after? Stipe says his hands hurt from hitting Hunt so much. If you have a W in the UFC HW division in the past 12 months, that is qualification enough to get a title shot. Compare that to the bottleneck @ 185 & 170 where you have 4 guys ready to challenge for the belt right now. When Cain gets injured, who fights Werdum? Stefan Struve? Roy Nelson? Big Nog?
  11. Well of course, but the smart money will be on Jones getting swarmed by a gang over a drug debt on the way to the fight. Jones via eye poke : -400 Bubba via shank: +300 Gang swarm in shower: EVEN money. The UFC will partner with the D block Latin Kings to promote the event. Jones will have to stay incarcerated to defend his title as per standard UFC policy.
  12. I read on Bloody Elbow Coker is getting so many calls from UFC fighters, camps & managers he has resorted to saying "talk to me when you are a free agent", can't do nothing for you now homie. I wonder if Jones jumps ship? No longer under a championship clause, did he have a multi fight contract like Anderson or just the automatic renewal since he was made champ & never lost?
  13. missed the fight, but saw Hunt's face and was kinda glad I didn't watch. As for Miocic or any UFC HW going on a run- I'll believe it when I see it. HW is so thin, Stipe could have just earned the next tirle shot when you factor in injuries. When big dudes finally break, they also take a long time to heal. I just want one HW belt holder to fight 3 times in 18 months, I don't really care who it is.
  14. Is anyone not pulling for Mark Hunt to win this weekend? I can't see how anyone can root against the guy-other than Miocic fans.
  15. I've never laughed so hard wasting cell data on a vine before in my life. I can't wait to hear the excuse to get him out of this mess & fight. It will have to be someone else's with a similar build-good luck, & I hope Bones wasn't photographed in a white shirt that day by coincidence - or this fight is not happening.
  16. Good thing Dana stacked that card, unlike the piece of crap they just put on in Montreal. I think Dana was hoping to get GSP to fight there & now think the UFC will not return to Montreal for a very long time. That card was so bad, people in Montreal actually got excited to see Rampage's replacement-a former hockey goon named Steve "the boss" Bosse and disappointed when he was pulled. I am not making this up.
  17. I'd like to see Jacare get the fight first, but it'll probably be Rockhold. As for Silva, I think he has 1 or 2 fights left if any. I got to start finding some new blood to cheer for-Max Holloway, Aljamain Sterling & Joseph Duffy are looking to be 3 for the future. I don't like AKA fighters in general, Rockhold showed why with that elbow strike to the side/back of Lyoto's head. It's a fight where both of you get paid, he didn't steal your wave ya surfer punk. I really hope Vitor gets the crap kicked out of him & he just goes away so his wife can beat him up for the rest of his life.
  18. Anybody can beat anybody at anytime. Just because a fighter beats another fighter it does not mean they are better, they where just better that night. Rousey can be beaten, but running into a clinch with an OlympIan Judoka is not the way to go about it. Cat should fire whoever suggested that. Rowdy also made the point that the women she has fought maybe have been fighting for 10 years at most where as she has been trained for this (in a sense) all her life. No one is going to out grapple her or get their arm out of trouble if it gets there, and other ways of attacking her are getting less & less as she works on other aspects of her game. I think the way to beat her is the way TJ took the belt from Barao (@135 coincidentally), lateral movement sticking shots from strange angles.
  19. Word is just a $100 parlay on 8 would have paid $6.3 million. No report of anyone actually making that bet. Some sites had $2/$5 plays that paid out up to 50 people up to $550,000+......had they not capped winnings at $150,000 when they saw the potential loses. Bad move by the site, sure they save $400k per winner, but is that worth no one wanting to play your long shots or parlays again? If I was a capped winner, I'd sue their pants off right after asking for an out court settlement that allowed me to get up to 95% of my previous and all future lost wagers back. Check the twitter machine of that sports business reporter from MSNBC, Darren Rovell (sic?) If you can take my stupid bets then you can pay my stupid bets when they come around once every 2-3 lifetimes.
  20. Yeah that's the only bout I want to watch, the rest will be on in the background while I do something else & I'll rewind if something catches my eye. 184 is a bit weak outside the main event too, I think that will be a bar one for me. I want to see Holm fight but that & the main event are all I'm interested in for 184.
  21. I posted a while back the UFC should have 2 belts & a #1 contender fight on ever PPV card, but never thought they would do this. Like have a champ who doesn't draw and put him on a card with a champ who does like Jones & Mighty Mouse, Ronda & Carla, Pettis & TJ. I doubt the card stays together like that, but the cynic in me thinks this might be the UFC's plan all along: this announcement also works nicely as a diversion- Silva's failed test on the left, wickedly stacked PPV cards on the right. Then, after Silva gets out of the news cycle, yank a title fight to headline 188.
  22. The NAC defines in competition as 12 hours prior to fight start time & 12 hours after. That after part is important, it allows them to do post fight tests & be able to punish fighters who fail those tests. It makes no sense when comparing Jones to Diaz, even when test dates are considered, but after watching that hearing I'm not surprised that logic does prevail at the NAC. They could not even run a meeting correctly-why let a fighter make a presentation to overturn a decision only to tell him that he makes a good argument, but the NAC can't help you. If that's the case, tell the fighter before hand that you can't help, why waste everyone's time meeting over it? The NAC is like a lot of government institutions, more concerned about their image than actually doing their jobs. If you use that reasoning instead of sound logic, it cam help explain some of the NAC's actions & decisions.
  23. Damn, forgot Glory was on Spike. I never watch Spike because everytime I see it in my guide there is a Cops, Bar Rescue, or some other show in a 6-12 hour marathon. So the NSAC (I think they call themselves NAC now) decides to pull Silva from his TUF Brazil 4 coaching gig- it's started filming in Vegas on Feb. 2 & they oversee the exhibition event. They asked to have Silva removed since he is currently suspended, hearing with the NAC is Feb 17. This has gone from pathetic to sad, the NAC messing up, then trying to save face with this move.
  24. Jumping the gun on Silva here, 1 SAMPLE of 1 test came back positive, happens all the time & subsequent test from the same sample can show they are clean. I'll give Andy the benefit of the doubt until it is proven without a doubt he used. Maybe I have too much faith in those other tests coming back clean, we'll see. As for Diaz, that is such BS. A positive test for marijuana metabolites does not indicate "in competition" use. MM stay in a persons system for up to a month, & his readings would be high as a regular user. I just hope common sense prevails at Nick's disciplinary hearing & the NSAC realizes he did not break their rules regarding Marijuana use since the test results don't show the results they are looking for. Essentially I view Jones & Diaz the same, each used a banned drug a month (maybe a week for Nick) out from the fight that had no effect on their performance in their fights. If Nick gets any sort if punishment above what Jones gets-which looks like it will be nothing, NSAC is too worried about being sued- it will be a joke, coke is ok, weed is not when out of competition. But i bet they hang him, or even if they do agree the test doesn't prove in competition use- or that weed is not a PED- they still fine & suspend him.
  25. Gilbert Melendez gave away Diaz strategy in the corner one time: get aggressive but not TOO aggressive. I read that as don't get counter punched, don't get out of position. As much as I hate the hype around McGregor, he's a counter puncher like Anderson, not as good as Andy but he gets guys to fire away so he can counter by throwing those crazy spinning kicks. Conor lands ready to strike, making the other guy think he is countering when Conir is actually setting up his own counter. And Anderson doesn't have that, if the guy is not coming too far forward to hit him, Anderson can't make the guy do it. He used to, by dropping his hands & sticking his chin out, but not tonight, looked a bit tentative. I'm fine if he's done. He had the 8 fight deal, this is #3, but he said he resigned for 10- think it was a joke. I don't need to see him fight 5 more times. Well maybe, do 3 Weidman, 2 right away then Vitor or top contender-maybe Machida- then Weidman 5 if Andy wins 3&4- & then a farwell fight vs Bisping or a big name. A fan can dream can't he? But if he ever gets beat bad along the way, give him one easy fight to go out on a win & retire-can't beat Weidman with what he showed tonight, but he got the bugs out, should be better if he decides to fight again, less tentative.
