I would love to be a team that drafts a QB superstar with a pick. Not one that had to be traded for, just incredible scouting combined with pure dumb luck. I would love that to happen. But the chances that it occurs are extremely rare. That's why investing in a "very good" veteran is important even if it costs a high draft pick or two. Its the difference between playing the lottery and investing in a 401k. Both might make you rich, but one is much more likely.

I am confident that Ron-Mart will approach each QB trade scenario (Veteran and Draft) with a consensus on how much they are comfortable offering that is both competitive but will not mortgage the future. If that offer is not enough they will move on to the next option. At the end of it, if they are outbid, or the deal falls apart,, then it will be Allen, Hinecke and a second or third round rookie.

Redskins receiving corp is beginning to shape up

Posted this in the Free Agency thread as well https://markbullock.substack.com/p/free-agent-profile-wr-curtis-samuel?r=fd8sn&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web&utm_source=copy Free Agent Profile: WR Curtis Samuel The team drafted Antonio Gibson, a receiver in college that Turner is developing into a running back, in the third round last season. Washington also signed J.D. McKissic, another positionless player that played both running back and wide receiver in college, as a free agent last offseason. Steven Sims Jr. is another player in that mold, though he’s more suited to being a slot receiver with the occasional hand-off on jet sweeps and such. While Samuel could be seen as an upgrade over some or perhaps all of those three, he would prove significantly more costly for a role that Washington already has three players for. -

Reviewing the Mahomes and Allen draft trades: Patrick Mahomes draft pick trade details Kansas City Chiefs received: No. 10 pick in 2017 NFL Draft (Patrick Mahomes) Buffalo Bills received: No. 27 pick in 2017 NFL Draft (Tre'Davious White); third-round 2017 pick (this pick was packaged in a trade that led to Buffalo taking both tackle Dion Dawkins and receiver Zay Jones); first-round 2018 pick (used to trade up and take linebacker Tremaine Edmunds; Buffalo also drafted defensive back Siran Neal with a final pick acquired along with Edmunds) Before the draft, Chiefs GM John Dorsey had identified the Saints (No. 11), Giants (No. 13) and Cardinals (No. 23) as teams that could potentially take Mahomes, according to ESPN. That's why moving up to No. 10 made the most sense. JOSH ALLEN TRADE DETAILS The Bills traded their first- and fifth-round selections (21st and 158th overall) and offensive tackle Cordy Glenn to the Cincinnati Bengals in exchange for Cincinnati's first- and sixth-round selections (12th and 187th overall). The Bills traded their first- and second-round selections (12th, 53rd and 56th overall) to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in exchange for Tampa Bay's first- and seventh-round selections (7th and 255th overall) The 22nd pick was from the Chiefs (Mahomes trade. They also had the 21st pick before the draft)

Putting together Chris Russell's and John Keim's latest podcasts I get this: Russell said his source told him that Kyle has been butting heads with someone in the organization but it's not Rivera. Keim said that Rob Rodgers has been trying to dip his toes in the player evaluation side of the org and has come up against some resistance. Perhaps that is part of the trouble.

Agree. It's a bad off season to need a QB unless you have a high draft pick or willing to pay through the nose with draft picks to trade for one. FA wise, besides Dak is a pretty mixed bag. I would be pretty happy if the training camp QB roster was: Fitzpatrick, Kyle, Taylor and a 3rd rounder. Loser between Kyle and Taylor they try to get on the practice squad.

I'm also in a wait and see attitude. I believe that the Hurney hire will be more of a business side/admin role with either keeping Kyle or hiring Cowden as the head talent evaluator.
