  1. I wasn't in love with Barnes.

Had him sixth I think, behind Davis, MKG, Beal, TRob, and Drummond. I thought he played a slow, deliberate game, had a horrible NCAA tourney, didn't defend as well as he should, didn't rebound as well as he should. But Barnes had an excellent NBA ready mid range game with all kinds of scoring tools and he was a very nifty finisher with some nice transition scoring tools. Plus he could catch and shoot threes. NBA ready body. Still think his realistic ceiling is Sean Elliot. Maybe Luol Deng. That wouldn't have been great at three but that's good around six.

Barnes isnt a fluid athlete. He has the measurables with speed and leaping ability and the size, but he is very stiff. His handles arent the best, and he cant create for himself off the dribble. It was why his freshman year was a disaster until Larry Drew transferred and Kendall Marshall stepped into the starting line up.

Barnes could be a good catch and shoot guy, and could be a good defender with adequate work and focus tho. But "the next Kobe Bryant" stuff he had coming out of HS is never going to happen.

I recall me and you having a 'discussion' about Barnes, and you definitely came across as being a lot more than "I wasnt in love."

I actually liked Drummond more than most people. Nobody predicted he was going to be this comfortable this early. I didn't think he made more sense for us than Beal and I would have taken TRob over him but those were the only two. I'm still not totally ready to buy into Drummond yet though. He hasn't played enough minutes yet. I also think Beal is going to drastically improve by the end of the season. He seems to figure out a little bit more each game and he's going to be substantially better when Wall gets back.

Drummond should be starting in Detroit. I dont understand why he isnt considering how bad they are but I liked him more than all of our other realistic options except MKG. Young athletic bigs with actual strength>>>>

I kept saying the problem with him last year was Calhoun's illness letting him down, not his play.

They were more NBA ready. Had go to scoring skills to carry them while they learn to play. Neither have really been less awful than Beal.

there isnt any actual correlation tho. They are all in different situations.

  2. If you told me last year that Drummond would have that kind of efficiency and Harrison Barnes would have an 11.33 PER thus far, you would have blown my mind. Barnes looked NBA ready coming out of HS and Drummond was hanging on by a thread for his college team.

or 6 months ago when I said it and you shot me down (altho I dont trust this organization with bigs)

Barnes aint gon be anything special in the NBA. You need to let that dream go.

If guys with such polished scoring like Barnes and Waiters are struggling like they have been, it makes me feel a little better about Beal's struggles.

I do not see the correlation.

  3. Just saying that Pac's style would favor a younger fighter, which imo would've given him a better shot a few years back. Floyd's style can help a boxer last longer, and stay effective as he ages. But yes, a faster Floyd would've been great as well. I think Pac would've still had the advantage in handspeed though, and would not have been able to beat him in a decision, but would have a far better chance of really hurting him, and even possibly knocking him out, more than any fighter Floyd's faced in his career.

nah, Floyd has always had faster hands than Pac.

Pac has a little more pop in his punches tho.

  4. In all honesty, Pac shouldn't fight Mayweather now, because he'd lose. I 'd have said otherwise 3 (almost 4) years ago, but as of right now, I think Floyd would get him, every time, no matter how many times they fought. That's probably been Floyd's game all along. Wait until a few years down the road, then make the fight happen, when you know that you stand a considerably higher chance of winning.

Floyd would have beaten Pacquiao 3 or 4 years ago also.

People act like Floyd is younger than Pacquiao.

    A younger, faster, quicker Floyd?

I actually give Pacquiao a better chance than before based on what I saw in the Cotto fight.

  5. If you listen to Roach talk, he says Pac needs to learn how to fight a counter puncher. Uh, well you're his trainer, shouldn't you teach him?

Roach also say when prepping for opponents, he looks for habits not weaknesses.

I would imagine that he would have pointed out Pac's bad habit of dropping his hands when throwing combos. And that they would develop a way to defend a counter puncher.

Pac's speed and power is amazing, but its like some the basic fundamentals of boxing are almost non-existent.

of course, its why I keep saying that Roach is an overrated trainer. His fighters only fight one way, and he makes them fight one way, and they all lose the same way.

There is no reason Khan to be a straight ahead fighter like Roach made him when you consider the physical abilities he has. Khan should be a great counterpuncher, but he Roach had him fighting like Pac. Combo, step back. Combo, step back, combo step back.

And Pacquiao only looks spectacular against straight ahead fighters. If he doesnt overwhelm you, and you counterpunch him, you will stay in the fight and score points.

  6. The last time Pac was fighting Marquez. He makes a "challenge" to Pacquiao to fight on May 5 at the MGM Grand days before the Pac/Marquez fight. As for Pacquiao promoting a fight on the same week as Mayweather was fighting, he has every right to promote an upcoming fight. What Mayweather is doing is trying to steal Pacquiao's thunder.

good lord, I wont even bother with this.

I have yet to see Pac or Roach correct this mistake. Once Pac comes in, he's already committed. He needs to learn how to counter on top of his opponents counter. Set them up with a jab, maybe double on it, wait for their 1-2 counter then unload....rather than just charge in, throw his combo and then get clocked.

That's all Marquez was doing. Let Pac throw his combos, once that left hand is launched Pac doesn't do a good job covering up for the counter, if anything there have been plenty of times that Pac will follow with that left and just stand there.

Pacquaio and Roach cant overcome that because they dont know how. Roach doesnt teach fighting any other way and Pacquiao cant fight any other way.

I expect the same thing to happen on Saturday, but I also expect Pacquaio to win a decision because Marquez cannot KO him.

I really dont know the point of this fight.

  7. And in other boxing news, Floyd Mayweather (once again) announces the date of his next fight on the same week Pacquiao is fighting.

when did he do that before? :ols:

I know Manny has promoted his future fights the same week Floyd was fighting. :ols:

  8. caught a little of the UCLA game last night. They lost again. To a decent team on the road though. But it's definitely a bit troubling that a team with the #1 or #2 recruiting class has been this bad so far. And they haven't gotten better since Shabazz started playing (2-3 in that span, good win over Georgia, but bad loss to Cal Poly canceling it out)

Shabazz shot 7/12 for 16 points and 4 rebounds. That's right around his averages of 16 & 5.6.

Some things that stand out to me about Shabazz so far:

    - Similar to Joe Johnson and James Harden, he's more of a SF type than SG type skill-wise IMO, but because of his height, he's probably going to have to play more at the 2 in the NBA. I think he could play SF against most NBA SFs but big ones like Carmelo are going to give him problems. He looks like a legit 6'5 to 6'6", bigger than Beal. Seems like he has long arms and he's got an NBA ready body bulk wise. Not going to have change his body once he gets to the league. It's eerie how much he looks like James Harden out on the court. All he needs is the beard.

    - He scores in a variety of ways but he doesn't seem to be that assertive offensively. When is he going to take over a game and drop 30 on a team? He's willing to play within the team I guess. I was looking for more of an alpha scorer in him. Again, this is really reminiscent of James Harden IMO.

    - He stops the ball a bit. He's not selfish, he's an ISO scorer and shooter and not a drive and dish type. Better rebounder than I thought. His rebounding numbers have been pretty good so far but they haven't been consistent.

That's about all I've got. Really haven't seen enough of him to conclude more. It's been a very disappointing start to the season for his team. I don't want to make too much out of these games though. He does have skills and I still like him the best as a fit for us. We need a scorer.

I think Shabazz is good, but not sure he is a franchise changer.

But if you want to blame someone for their struggles, blame Ben Howland and that archaic offense he runs. Its happened with all of his teams at UCLA. Those guys end up being better NBA players than college players because they are free.

  9. Cotto will probably fight Canelo because, like you said, thats how boxing works. Cotto is still a name, and its another one of those on Alvarez's notch.

Trout was VERY impressive tonight. I dont think Cotto is that old, and even if I disagree with the final card (the margin, not hte victor), Trout showed me a lot of tactical acumen in this fight. In fact, this fight was very enjoyable because of how tactical the fight was.

I would love to see Trout v. Canelo, but that wont happen.

  10. Presumably not a long term Arsenal fan then much before Wenger? If at all.

    Hail.

I started watching Arsenal since the Henry came, tbh. So thats 12 years. I know the history of the club and all that, but from what ive witnessed this is the worst.

  11. Zeller looks like a player, altho those gator arms do concern me.

McAdoo, not so much.... in... between... er.

In fact UNC looks like basura this year.

A secret no one wants to talk about, UNC havent had an all star player enter the NBA since 1998...

So I'm surfing Stubhub for tomorrow night's game. Some lower seating tickets are going as low as 9.00. It might go lower That's sad. Either EG has some naked pics of Ted doing something strange and he's holding them hostage, or Ted is really blind to the fact this culture stinks. I'm sorry guys you have to go through this.

good chance im going to the game tomorrow. I have a feeling we could win and Damien Lillard looks like a baller.
