That 40 time is so bad, I wonder if it was a fluke. He can't really be that slow, can he?

He didn't look that slow when watching him.  But I admit after touting him on the draft thread I backed off after seeing that time.  No way I think he'd have gone undrafted if he ran a normal time.   But watching him at Georgia, he was a fun watch -- physical at the catch point and great hands.

"He's a stud," third-round receiver Luke McCaffrey said. "I know he's one heck of a quarterback and a lot of fun to play with from a personality standpoint. I've had a blast in these 24 hours with him. ... He's just fun to be around; he's good energy."

Added second-round tight end Ben Sinnott: "He has the 'it' factor."

Washington selected Daniels with the second pick in last month's draft, making him the franchise's latest hope at quarterback. The team started eight different passers in the last four years and nobody has started for more than three consecutive seasons since Mark Rypien from 1989 to '93. Since that time, Washington has drafted five other quarterbacks in the first round, and none became the long-term answer.

Daniels' presence led to more interest than usual in the Commanders' first rookie workout as approximately 55 media members attended -- at least 20 more than usual, according to a team spokesman. He smiled often and during breaks could be seen laughing with coaches or teammates. He lofted accurate deep passes down the middle of the field against no defenders and was accurate during a 7-on-7 drill, with one off-target pass that resulted in a one-handed grab by undrafted free agent Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint.

Daniels said Friday was just about "day one install" of the playbook. But he also said he soaked in seeing his helmet in the locker and putting on his yellow No. 5 practice jersey.

"Man, it was awesome," he said. He added that scenes like this brought out "that 9-year-old kid in me, just realizing that his dreams came true, and now I'm here but I've still got a long way to go."

Sinnott said he worked out with Daniels at times in the offseason -- as well as undrafted free agent quarterback Sam Hartman. He said he saw Daniels' accuracy on film and then realized it in person. He saw him, as others did, create plays with his legs as well.

"He's a super talented kid, a great dude I really like to be around and hopefully grow with," Sinnott said. "There are just guys who players naturally get attracted to and revolve around and he's got that personality where you want to work with him and want to watch film with him and you want to be out here working with him."

Daniels said this weekend is also about developing his leadership in the NFL, before he starts working with the veterans at OTA practices.

"Just being myself, being a hard worker," he said. "Don't try to be somebody I'm not. People see who's authentic and who's not. Try to make connections, talk to people. Obviously I'm 23, it's a lot of different age ranges in this locker room, so try to relate as much as possible, show them I'm all about the team, I'm all about hard work."

And, for now, it's about learning the playbook and then earning the starting job.

"Just going through the lumps of being a rookie and trying to learn how to be a pro," Daniels said. "I don't have a definitive answer for you what I needed to work on. I'm just trying to learn as much as possible."

What Kirby Smart said about Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint

“Marcus Rosemy is one of the toughest kids I’ve been around. Played through injury, had a horrific injury as a freshman, bounced back from that. Total culture, team player, believes in the team first. Never complained once about not getting the ball. Dominant on special teams. I think that stuck out to a lot of these coaches here.”

  4. Just looked it up took him in the late 5th round in the board's mock draft, yikes considering he went UDFA.    Please make the team Marcus!  :ols:

Maybe I saved myself by taking Hampton in the 7th, and he went to us in the 5th.

Agree with Nagy about his hands.  0% drops.

  5. A hobby of mine is reading about performance psychology.  This below is a classic technique.  What impresses me about it is aside from the tweet below, other signs for me about Quinn indicates he's a very deep thinker as to maximizing talent.

I think we might have a gem in Quinn.  Will see.

If its a wide open fight it really makes me wonder what the plan is for the return game.

I personally have just been penciling in Crowder as WR3 as he is a gameday manda-deploy as our return man.

But if we have options than his WR3 spot, and even his roster spot really, are on the table.

McCaffrey returned some punts in college, maybe him?

I think a lot of it was the perceived attitude stuff. All the signs, if you wanted to read them that way, could have pointed to him being RGMe all over again.

People forget the drafting process is intentionally deceitful, I think. And once you get a rooting interest it’s really hard to just be fair and open minded about it.

Some of it.  But also, there were definitely some on that QB thread who didn't think he was good.

Magee is probably the guy who is going to blow up and be the steal of the class for us.  He would be my bet anyway.  I can't find enough cut ups to really form my own solid take on him, but what I saw of him looked fine.  A couple of reasons why I think he could be the gem:

Good to hear.  I recall you were down on him from the first game you watched.  I gather you found more games to watch.

He's the only dude I haven't watched yet but will.

5 sacks and a 90 pass rushing grade from PFF among other things appeal to me.  But I don't have a take yet from watching him.

Well, Jacksaint just passed Dyami on the depth chart.

Also… Daniels to Yankoff is a really, really awkward sentence to read.

Jacksaint's catch is saving me from some embarassment. :ols:

I took him in the mid rounds in the board's mock draft and touted him some on the draft thread and then he goes undrafted.  😢

Imagine if they took Penix?  Penix to Yankoff?

Agree. That’s a massive sign of encouragement for me.

Yeah McCaffrey and Sainstril in particular come off uber mature, articulate and driven.  Sinnott to some extent, too.

I don't want to jinx it but my early vibe about this draft class is very optimistic.  Feels good to feel this way.  Last year around this time, I started turning on Ron and trashing his off season.  But I feel really good about everything this regime did.

You can't rebuild a crap team in one off season.  But they've gone very far towards that goal.  Next off season, they clearly need to zone in on tackle, outside corner and maybe edge.  But we don't have a zillion holes IMO anymore.

And that's before launching into the coaching.  All the reports about how much energy this coaching staff brought compared to the previous one.  Quinn supposedly already working around the clock.  Peters has barely seen his family.  We've gone from Rivera who was stuck on 35 miles an hour as a GM and a coach to a 70 mile an hour staff.   This staff comes off much more hardworking and ambitious.

I know we've been burned so much that some are predisposed to be cynical.  I get it.  Years ago, I'd be giddy about all of this.  Now am cautiously optimistic.  But as much as I had a bad feeling about the last off season and how it would fliter to the season.  I feel the opposite this time.  I think this team exceeds expectations.

Tge Extremeskins bylaws require that we all have to stake a training camp claim on a non-first round rookie as a potential breakout star.

I was gonna hop on the Jer'Zhan "He Plays Nasty" Newton bandwagon, but it's filled to overflowing abd they wouldn't let me on board.

So as of today I'm officially  staking my claim, for this year's surprise breakout rookie star of training camp, on young Lucas Jebediah  McCaffrey.

    Don't let me down kid!

The cool thing for me about this draft is its difficult for me to pick one player.

McCaffrey though would be the one who I didn't dig that deep before the draft but love more and more about his chances the more I hear about him and watch his interviews.

In an interview, he comes off as polished and mature as Terry does.

Interesting to hear his coach explain that people are surprised to lean about his speed because he's a heavy foot runner -- that is, he lands hard on his feet when he runs so to the naked eye he doesn't look as fast.   Makes sense to me on reflection.   Meaning a lot of fast athletes sort of glide when they run but some don't.

My hesitation when watching him was he didn't come off as twitchy as some of the WRs I watched but hearing his coaches explanation was interesting to me.  I am not a heavy foot runner myself when I run but I never really thought about the point until he made it.

This kid is growing on me more and more. I first kinda thought he had a too cool for school personality but now he just comes off as down to earth and confident. I like him.

Forgot who said it but one NFL type who is around a lot of players over the years -- college and pros said Jayden is the most humble dude he's been around in that mix.

Regardless of whom you preferred, I’m glad we have a franchise QB and an organization / staff built to develop him the right way.

Playbook installs for him and the offense without different OCs coming in every year.  Him starting to develop relationships and chemistry with his receivers and everyone building together. So refreshing…  Nice to have professionals running the show!🥹

His throwing motion and release is so fluid, quick, and natural. It’s something Ive always likes about JD even when I was the President of Maye Nation.

I think Daniels to Mclaurin is gonna do some real damage this year.

I was high on Maye too albiet high on Daniels at the same time.

I think both end up studs.  Will see.  The one I'd bet against becoming a stud is McCarthy but I think he will be good -- Kirk level good potentially but don't think he's a top 5 type, will see.

I'll say one thing Daniels brings over Maye and by a mile and I said so when I was perhaps a co-pres of the Maye Nation fan club -- that is, excitement.

Maye isn't unexciting.  Good personality and is a fun watch.  But Daniels is definitely more of an electric player because of his wheels.   Seeing all those cameras there at today's practice.  I'd be surprised if it was the same for Maye.  When you got national reporters like Eisen clamoring for Dallas-Washington week 1 because he wants to see Daniels play or all the Chicago-Washington hype, Lamar versus Daniels, etc -- wouldn't be the same IMO with Maye.  Not that it matters to the bottom line but I'll say the hype is certainly higher with Daniels

  14. Listened to Trevor from PFF on Paulsen's podcast addressing the dispairty between him and some mock drafters (who preferred Maye) and most scouts-coaches who prefered Daniels.

Trevor thought was the NFL scouts-coaches were enamored with Daniels consistent mechanics and delivery which Maye didn't share.  It was an interesting listen.  PFF by far were the biggest Maye people along with Nat Trice.  But they also thought Daniels was close behind him.  But it was interesting to hear Trevor explain why he gets why scouts seemed to prefer Daniels and it centered on the consistency of his mechanics.
